Following Our Nearest and Dearest Rivals, 2014-15

Only became aware the Sterling situation just now, what a load of cr@p about burn out. If he's really tired, why is he allowed to go back to training at liverpool? send him to a beach resort for a week of pampering for god sake.

Dear Jose, please pull Cahill out of the international due to fatigue, we will see what the FA says.

They'd probably all decide that he'd brought the game into disrepute. Those solid gold Umbrian villas won't pay for themselves you know.

Ched Evans.

Right or wrong that he should return to Sheffield United following his impending release from prison after serving half of his conviction time for the rape of a 19 year old girl in a hotel room?

On the fence a bit with this one, I remember following the court case leading up to his conviction and it was, in my opinion, a case that could have gone either way, very grey area at times.

Without wanting to go into the specifics of the rape itself is it right or fair that he should be allowed to go back to such a high earning, high profile job?

Should there be conditions to his re-employment by Sheffield United or any other club such as a percentage of his pay for the duration of his contact should go to an organisation such as Rape Crisis?

I've been told to read his website (of course it'll have a bias slant) as there are a lot of facts the media have neglected to report on. Not saying it would change people's opinions but always worth trying to get the whole story.

Wasn't Marlon King convicted of rape? He carried on playing.

From Wiki re. the late Sir Tom Finney:

'Once normal competition was restored, Finney made his debut for Preston in August 1946 and soon established himself as an agile forward. Post-war demand for plumbers ensured that he had a second income to supplement the £14 he received as a footballer and was nicknamed "The Preston Plumber".'

Sterling take note: £14 a week pay and a second job, aside from football. It is a long time ago but some of today's players, the top level, are way out of touch with real life.

Got a link to his web page?

I think Marlon King was arrested for assaulting a woman, I think he's done it a couple of times. Also recently got involved in a rage road incident whilst he was eating an ice cream at the wheel, the man has serious anger issues.

It's nice to see Rio get charged by the FA for showing his true colors, Even better that it was a fellow Citizen who riled him up, And all of this from the guy who wants to be a future England manager people.  :laugh2:

He's not manager material certainly; being incapable of fidelity is always a warning sign and a nod towards arrested development. His use of the 'S' word for a woman is interesting considering he was quite happy to indulge in pleasures of the flesh with those who some would refer to as 'S'!

I like you am sitting on this one, what I will say is, guilty or not he has served his sentence & deserved to try and put his life back together, so I do not believe any one should try to put obstacles in his way.

Another thing that has me thinking that there is more to this than plain guilty or not is the disclaimer at the beginning of his web page, I was always told that if someone does not waiver in their belief no matter what, then it is something in their favour.

From Talksport:

Rodney Marsh feels Sterling will soon be tempted away from Anfield by a 'top' club. “I know I am going to get pelted by Liverpool supporters but I don’t see Raheem Sterling being a Liverpool player in the next two years," the ex-England international said, speaking on the Sports Bar. “I think he will leave Liverpool and go to a really top club.

Good to see Rodney knows the definition of a top club doesn't include Liverpool these days

When Tom Finney has to operate at 90% of his physiological limits for a quarter of his life, all while under heavy piblic scrutiny, then we have a valid comparison.

when sterling has to plaplay football while also serving under Montgomery in Egypt them he will have a reason to complain about being tired.

I'm unsure if you're being serious or not?

That's quite a read, I'm open minded on this.... now

A question put to Wenger at their AGM meeting tonight by an Arsenal online forum representative, 'Were funds available to the manager to strengthen the defence? If there was why was nothing done about it?', and according to them Wenger decided to not answer that question, ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING. I honestly feel for those poor f-ckers, Why they put up with him is beyond me. It's almost like on one hand I feel like laughing at them for being so naïve and constantly falling into Wengers trap of saying next year we'll challenge yet on the other hand if my owner at City was mugging me off like that, I'd go watch a lower league side and hope my team failed until something was done about the problem, I can tolerate my team being w**k but i'm not paying the wages of crooks at the same time. You have to remember Arsenal fans pay the highest season ticket prices also, Just how Wenger and his American bosses get away with it, I will never know.

There was a real heavyweight meeting of minds on Talk Sport this morning Alan Brazil was joined by Phil Brown. Brown looks like a club rep who when he's not managing a football team probably spends his summers organizing party games in Magaluf. His crowning glory was when he was on 5live discussing Pirlo. He said '' Why has Pirlo spent all his career in Italy''?, '' Is he afraid to leave home''?, ''Is he homophobic?''.

Same here, I read the majority of the site and after doing so it is hard not to think that Evans got a bit of a raw deal.

I don't think he acted sensibly on that night but taking everything into consideration it's difficult to understand why only he was charged especially on the basis that the victim was supposedly too drunk to consent.

It's obviously a sensitive subject but I'm willing to see the lad try to get his career back on track.

Forever Carefree you do realize he's a convicted rapist and not an alleged rapist right? I'd drop the sympathy levels for him if I were you, He's not some footballer who's in prison for gbh or stealing something, He's been convicted of rape and has managed to get off in half of his sentence, How do you think the victims family feel about this issue? I couldn't care less if he was allowed to play or not again, It shows how big of a sham our justice system is if he can get off doing half his time which was a miserly 5 years in the first place.

Thing is if you read up on the case you quickly realise how this could easily be any young lad out there.,..especailly these days.

I have had quite a few one night stands after a boozing zsession in my younger days...and this freaks me out. ALl it takes is for someone to say they were drunk and can't remember and you are a rapist.

I don't see him as some sort of monstor stalking the streets for woman to feed his satisfaction.

It's a raw subject of course but IMO from what I have researched on this case I don't think he should be punished anymore than he has already done so.

I hope he appeals is tbh.

That's the whole point, his entire conviction is questionable... Have you read the specific details of the case or do you only know that he was convicted?

The victim herself never, at any point, claimed she was raped, only that she thought her drink had been spiked but toxiology reports showed this to be false and only traces of marinara and cocaine were found.

Evans friend who was also charged with rape was found not guilty despite engaging in sexual contact before Evans... However Evans was found guilty as the victim was apparently in fit state (due to being so drunk) to consent to sex. So why was only Evans found guilty?

Just because you are found guilty, doesn't mean you are guilty and as I said previously Evans case is an extremely grey area.

Me personally, having read all the details of the rape conviction, feel that Evans, having served his sentence, deserves to return to his profession in the same way that Lee Hughes did after serving his sentence for manslaughter.

Hamaan was just on Sky Sports talking utter w**k, said he thinks City will win the title as we're too reliant on Hazard, Costa and Fabregas. He kept going on about City's squad which I agree has a little more depth but quality wise I don't any better than ours. City are reliant on Silva, Aguero and Toure themselves. I'm not saying City aren't gonna be a challenge, of course thy are, they're Champions for a reason. Just does my head in when ex-players let there bias come through and spout complete bollocks.

He also said we haven't had the toughest fixtures we beat an "off colour" Arsenal side a few weeks ago. Oh that same Arsenal side that got a 2-2 draw against City perhaps?!

That’s crazy lol.

Of course we are reliant on those 3 players....they are the 3 best players at the club...

As you say City are reliant on Aguero, Silva and Toure, any squad who you take 3 of the best players out will struggle...it's common sense for goodness sake.

If he is basing his tip on that then he's a bigger idiot than I previously thought.

Surely the thing about your best players is that you rely on them to perform well... That's what makes them your best players.

Could that logic not be applied to most clubs? Barca rely on Messi, Real rely on Ronaldo, Manchester United now find themselves relying on Di Maria, Arsenal rely on Ramsay (when fit).

Strange argument, especially when you're saying you're reliant on a third of your outfield players.

Hamaan might be right, maybe City will win the title but his reasoning is strange.
