So is there a an actual rule that says you have to be a certain distance from the goalkeeper when they try and clear the ball from their hands ? It's not like it is a goal kick or anything so why should players have to be so far away ? And it's not like Smalling was in the penalty area when attempting the block from Hart.

He was in the penalty area and smalling was just standing in front of in, nowhere to go for the GK if the defender can just shadow him.

I think Smalling's first yellow was very harsh but he was stupid there. This ref has shown no consistency whatsoever though Zabaleta and Clichy should both be on yellow cards.

It's not a case of that though, they have been up for this, there CB has just made a very stupid decision. Also add to that the ref has been inconsistent as f**k only further highlighting what is wrong with referees.

Not harsh at all, it's a clear yellow. It's against the rules to try and dispossess the goalkeeper when they are holding the ball. Holding includes the spaces between dropping it from their hands and kicking it, which is the moment Smalling tired to exploit. 

 

The ref has been fine, people need to relax with the conspiracy. As I type this City should have got a penalty. 

Already escaped 2 pens but can they hold on for another 45 mins of this pounding?
