Looked at rationally, today is a big day for LFC and Gerrard but Sky, BBC, all the papers have tried to turn it into a national event. It's been way, way OTT and, when 'Woodhogan' :-) posted that they'd given him a Number Eight trophy I thought it might be a wind up!

Even if Lamps hadn't have left he wouldn't have received nearly the same level of gushiness from the media, then again he wouldn't have announced it, Frank isn't self obsessed. Imagine though, saying goodbye to "two" premier league legends and this one will get f**k all mentioned.

 

I always tell English people that I meet that they don't give enough credit to Supah Frankie Lampard. Most want to call him Fat Frank or give him some other crap, but seriously Frank was the best #8 for Club & Country. His record for CFC speaks for itself. It seemed that there always was a media love affair w/ Stevie me. He could do no wrong. Even after he went to jail, that was swept under the rug. Maybe I am just jealous that here in the US we didn't have a midfielder with Lampard's quality, but I was happy to see him play for Chelsea. He provided me with many quality moments & no on can take those away.

It is really weird. At least it's not a trophy you buy in a key cutting shop. I thought it might be that at first - a wooden base with a silver footballer on top.

Tbh afterwards I think you could tell Gerrard wasn't fussed by the defeat. He knew it was all about him today and he lapped it up. Stevie Me is an apt name for him.

Today is the worst Sky have ever been, i have never seen anything like this.

 

LFCTV, sorry BBC, have been just as bad. As if the two dozen Gerrard articles and videos on their football page weren't bad enough, they also have a live feed of his farewell and people paying tribute to him. I don't think they even had that for Nelson Mandela. This is what the licence fee is paying for, saturation Liverpool propaganda. No other club, not even Man Utd, gets anything like this coverage.
