The Race for Fourth Place (2014-15)

Featured Replies

Arsenal to take fourth... but Everton to win Europa League! :koo-koo:

If you're getting at them been kicked out at the expense of Arsenal you are wrong. Arsenal would still get into CL, Everton would also but only at the qualifying stage.

If everything was to work out i e. Two teams from the same country win the European Trophies that DON't finish in the Top 4 (if it's a Top 4 in that league) you could potentially have six teams in the Champions League all from the same country.

Didn't we do something similar to the Spurs a few years ago?

They finished 4th, but we won the CL and even though we were 6th (yes, can you believe that? ) we played the CL the following year, they didn't.

Unless something changed, I believe the Premier league only gets four spots no matter what?

Hope Southampton takes it of course, but very unlikely.

Yeah it's all changed now

So what are the repercussions of Liverpool not getting into the Champions League? (although I have a funny feeling they'll win the Europa League).

How are they in fitting with FFP?

I dislike both sides strongly but I'd much rather have Spurs get top four than Arsenal, partly because the post-match AFTV interviews are prime entertainment. I was slightly confused yesterday at the start of MOTD's highlights of the NLD when they were going through the teams, and it sounded like the Arsenal fans were singing their own version of the celery song, hope they haven't stolen another.

Before FSG came in and hired Rodgers Liverpool were 7th.

Now they've hired Rodgers and he's spent £200M. And their 8th.

Awesome work

They will fail the FFP. It wont matter though, as they wont be in europe next season. The will not make top 6 in the league.

Europa league has teams like PSV, Roma, Sevilla, Bilbao and Woldsburg. Any of these teams will chew up the dippers and sh*t them out into the bins they forage for their food.

Interesting results this weekend, brilliant for Spurs & Southampton. I still think that Arsenal will get 3rd and United 4th most likely, but it will go down to the wire.

  • 2 weeks later...

I think Man United will get it. I would prefer them not to and have Southampton instead. For obvious reasons I don't want Liverp**l to get it.

Southampton yes and, as you say, not Liverpool.

This weekend seems to have made the race for 3rd and 4th even more open, if that's possible. I still fancy Arsenal for 3rd but not so sure about United as I was before for 4th! Liverpool are in great form and they still get to play United at home. It looks as though Southampton might begin to fade away but I still fancy them to fight hard, they'll certainly give us a tough game in a couple of weeks' time.

Would love to see Southampton make the top four but I have a feeling that they might run out of steam with about a dozen games left in the season but hopefully they continue to fight on. They're a team I've admired from the distance.

If I had to fancy anyone for the top four right at this point it would be Arsenal and Liverpool on the basis of momentum and recent form. Manchester United, Southampton and Tottenham are all looking shaky at the moment.

Southampton won't hold on, i've said it all season, over 38 games the money of Utd will prove too much, they have some world class players and they will get them over the line. As enjoyable as it is to have other clubs fighting for it, come the end of the season it's nearly always the same clubs again and again.

My prediction for top 4 is: City, Chelsea, Man utd, Arsenal

I think Arsenal will win the FA Cup again as well, they seem the best of the teams left in it and are actually playing well recently.

Nah. If anything Arsenal will beat Liverpool in the final to rub in Gerrard's terrible end to his Liverpool career.

Speaking of 'Amen' this may explain a few things:

Christ! (Well, you know what I mean).

I'm amusing myself on the train home thinking of the words of Christ spoken in Scouse:

'One of yous is gonna betray me, yer bar stewards'

Judas: 'eh, calm down Jeez mate Calm down'

Matthew, Maarcchk, Loocchk, and John would have said to Judas,'hey Jude'.

I would probably find it funniest if United missed out on the top 4 again, I don't mind Liverpool being in it again at their expense because the dippers are f**king useless and Rodgers is useless in the transfer market.

11 games left (12 for us though)

Think it'll go down to the last weekend, be interesting for us as neutrals!

Ah thanks exciting knowing we have 12 games left

Yeah I think this will go down to the wire but hopefully we can wrap the title up early

United, Pool and Arse all have to play each other and they all have to play us; lots of big games. I'd expect Jose and Van Gaal to have worked out how to contain Liverpool. Wenger....won't have a notion

I can't decide which would be better, wrapping up the title at home to liverpool or doing it the week before and them having to give us the guard of honour?
