February 16, 201511 yr Plokoon makes some great points, I can handle negativity but badly written, sloppy, lazy negativity is beyond the pale. Citing Martin Samuels yet again, I've seen him write articles about us that are critical, but they are always fair, well written and unbiased. See also Neville and Carjacker, they are only human and MUST be biased towards ManU and Liverpool respectively, but they manage to hide it very well when analysing games (not just our games either) Unlike Jaymee Redknapp, or as my dear old Mum who does like to mangle her words calls him, Jeremy Redcapp ! I take the point about some journalists getting the hump with Mourinho, but he was no where near us when the JT controversy kicked off, so maybe its about more than just the current manager. We are a club who polarises opinion like no other, imo, they can't decide if we are knuckle dragging Neanderthal hooligans, or Champagne quaffing hooray Henry's who light our fags with five pound notes. The Media are entitled to write/say what they like as long as it doesn't affect how we are treated by the F.A and Uefa, just as we are entitled to take issue with it, or ignore it and move on as each individual sees fit. As for Neil Ashton he comes across as a whiney little b*tch, and even when he used to feature regularly on Paper view on our clubs own channel, he was thin skinned and defensive when challenged on any of his views, so I think anything he writes can be dismissed as the petulant spite of a person who never seems to have grown up. I don't think he ever got over being told he looks like AVB Some great points and it's weird how we get this range of insults directed towards us. The worst is being called a Cockney because it's just factually incorrect, but having comments about us being poshboys, rentboys, nazis or even a 'commie's plaything' (unbelievably) is wonderfully diverse. I also like how you've referenced specific writers in a number of posts, rather than just talking about 'the meeja' or 'pundits'. Punditry especially tends to rely on conflict and for that you need conflicting viewpoints. I agree with what you say about Samuels in particular.
February 16, 201511 yr I've never understood the "rentboys" thing? What is it supposed to mean - well, I know what it means but why should it be associated with us? Is it meant to be that all West Londoners are male prostitutes or just Chelsea fans? Why choose that? I assume they think southerners and Chelsea fans are effeminate? It just doesn't seem to make any logical sense.
February 16, 201511 yr Forget plastic flags, the club should hand out plastic handbags for everyone to lift up, when anyone sings the rentboys song at us...(that was not an entirely serious suggestion btw) Although I think I mentioned it before, on the official FA website their anti homophobic section is picked out in a nice pink font, so if its good enough for them.........

Dolphin Square has an SW postcode; some in football knew long before today's public it seems. The tar brush associated Chelsea fans as being close to that area only, in reality the actual ' rent boys', or victims of pedarists and child abusers, never had a life that would include the normality of a going to see a football match. Terrible, but at least the tide seems to be turning.Sorry, to be a downer, but it's one term that makes me shiver.

But then this is a sport where a ref preferred to book Graeme Le Saux for time wasting rather than take action against Robbie Fowler's homophobia. The other bizarre one is the chav insult, which is especially strange given that Liverpool and North London are chav central! Edited February 16, 201511 yr by Englishman
February 16, 201511 yr Also our proximity to Earls Court was rumoured to have something to do with it.

The other bizarre one is the chav insult, which is especially strange given that Liverpool and North London are chav central! I don't understand any of the crap rival fans come up with about us to be honest. Rentboys, don't get it, and it's actually one of the most offensive things aimed at a set of fans in this country yet nothing get's done about it. Chav's, how the f**k are we chav's exactly ? if you want chavs go watch ArsenalFan tv on Youtube or check outside Arsenal's stadium on transfer deadline day. Or just look at Anfield, i have never seen more chav's pack into one area in my life, it's like a Jeremy Kyle reunion at Anfield. Plastic flag wavers...............after all these years i still don't get how this is an insult. I guess they are getting desperate. Seriously, what is so bad about waving plastic flags ? February 16, 201511 yr West Brompton Cemetarys a well known gay hangout after dark. During night games, from the window at the very top of the East Stand you can sometimes see them fornicating on top of the tombstones.....Nice...
February 16, 201511 yr To be honest i think the rent boys thing is that all other fans believe that you only join Chelsea for the money.
February 16, 201511 yr To be honest Raynes Park Blue, I doubt very much its used as a gay hangout these days, maybe the odd one or two, but the gates are locked at dusk each evening which would mean people having to scale the walls to get in.
February 16, 201511 yr Plastic flag wavers...............after all these years i still don't get how this is an insult. I guess they are getting desperate. Seriously, what is so bad about waving plastic flags ? And they're not even plastic - at least when I've been given a flag they've been cloth!
February 16, 201511 yr It was probably about 6 years ago I witnessed it. Not sure whether it still occurs these days. Still if they're determined enough they'll find a way in. If you see anyone looking slightly suspect with an extension ladder, Id take a wild guess as to their intentions
February 16, 201511 yr To be honest i think the rent boys thing is that all other fans believe that you only join Chelsea for the money. Hang on - I've missed something here - are Chelsea paying us now? sh*t, no-one told me - how much am I owed?
February 16, 201511 yr The other day, some poster on the Guardian described Chelsea as 'the renties'. Given that paper's ultra PC stance, I couldn't believe the comment got through. I've had countless comments deleted from that site because they 'didn't meet their standards', but homophobic insults are OK when they apply to us apparently.

It could be something like that but I just can't believe that fans of other clubs gave it that much analysis and came up with that - it seems a bit deep. I tend to think Bazza's explanation is more like it - they just think we've prostituted our support because of Roman's money.
February 16, 201511 yr During night games, from the window at the very top of the East Stand you can sometimes see them fornicating on top of the tombstones.....Nice... That must be why it's so hard to get tickets.

I tend to think Bazza's explanation is more like it - they just think we've prostituted our support because of Roman's money. The genesis of the rent boy slur started with the Scousers and Torres joining us i thought. I always thought the chant was aimed at the players rather then the fans. But god knows what goes through the average scousers mind (apart from stealing).
February 16, 201511 yr The rent boys thing was going long before Torres joined us.. But it is clear to me now...They all hate us because we are simply fabulous..
February 16, 201511 yr I assumed 'rentboys' was just a reference about players giving up their loyalties to join us for the money. in other words, men selling themselves to the highest bidder.i dont really give a damn, they can call us what they like while they cry over black and white photos of their 'glorious history' and try to forget that they are now just another mid-table club
February 16, 201511 yr Opposition fans have said that it's because one of our 'firm's' number was caught in a police raid with a young, male prostitute in the mid-80s. Sounds like the type of sh*t that appeared out of thin air and then grew but the Scousers are the worst for singing it. They do get the worst abuse in return though. February 16, 201511 yr To be honest i think the rent boys thing is that all other fans believe that you only join Chelsea for the money. This is what I thought all along too, which is false because we pay fair wages. On cockneys I think it's because at one point almost all our English players were from West Ham/East London so they hear their accent in interviews and think everyone in London speaks like that (JT, Lamps, Ash and Joe Cole, Glen Johnson..) Chavs.. they think it's some London exclusive thing, there are chavs in Manchester just watch Shameless! Finally the plastic flags thing I think is just Scousers dying for something their manager says to stick in the same way everything Jose says turns into a meme. Besides, they wave em too. Is there anything else we need to address? I will defend our honour till I die!!
February 16, 201511 yr When I hear 'rentboys' all I can think about is that scouse milky bar kid lookalike. What a rodent.
