Joe Cole came on for Villa unnoticed

Featured Replies

A few around me on Saturday noticed Joe Cole on the pitch five minutes after he came on at Villa Park yet there was no reaction either positive or negative from our away following.

He remains a Chelsea fan despite his words that angered a few on his signing for Liverpool. Given he played a huge part in promoting Chelsea to Eden Hazard whilst at Lille and also was a massive influence to our second title under Jose I was a little surprised a chant of 'He's here he's there' didn't break out when we were 2-1 up

To be fair to him he did also come out and say that he had to say those things about Liverpool in his interview, they told him that he is at the best club in the world and he is to say how happy he is at the best club in the world.

You know how big those c**ts think about themselves, they do anything to still be relevant. They don't realize they are not the giants they once were.

He's played so little over the last few years and rarely been on TV that he's become a forgotten man.

If he were to appear at the Bridge again, I'm sure he'd get a reception. Everyone loves Joey.

I remember he once said that being on the Chelsea bench was the second best job in the world... and only second to playing on the field for Chelsea.

Joe Cole is Chelsea, and I was saddened he didn't get a chant or an applause.

Sturridge also said that Liverpool are the biggest club in England upon signing for them, it's quite embarassing that they tell their players to say this.

This is what Joe Cole said after leaving Liverpool:

‘When I joined, the guy interviewing me said “you’ve joined the biggest club in the country†and reeled off the trophies they’d won.

‘I just said “Yeah, if you put it like that, I suppose you’re rightâ€, and Liverpool used that as the headline to the interview.

‘I didn’t want to upset anyone so I just went along with it. But obviously they are not the biggest club any more.’

He added: ‘How do you judge how big a club are? Nottingham Forest won the European Cup twice but they’re not a bigger club than Chelsea.’

Basically they put words in his mouth and he just went along with it, to not upset them.

i saw him come on when i was watching on tv and gave him a polite ripple of applause from my living room. even before he came to chelsea i loved the boy. Top, top man.

In his honour, i'll give him a quick rendition now "He's here, he's there, he's every f**king where Joey Cole, Joey Cole!"

He's a good lad, fairly sure he probably regrets turning down the contract at Chelsea in favour if joining Liverpool.

Injuries seem to have caught up with him now but for a couple of years, especially under Averam Grant he was brilliant.

I think he should have stayed in France following his loan. Maybe the money wasn't as good, but he looked very good on the pitch. It's funny how I think we could use someone like Joey right now. We haven't had a right-winger with his level of trickery in a long time.

Joe Cole was a terrific player under Jose as he was a player with a bit of tough love from Jose who got the best out of himself. We shouldn't forget that between 2004-2006 Joe was a brilliant player down the right and was consistently a hassle for opposition defenders and midfielders. He wasn't the same player after a stress fracture in the 2006-2007 season.

Sure he joined Liverpool after leaving us and I remember Liverpool fans bragging to me about how they had Joe Cole but in the end he didn't produce anything special and his comments about Liverpool depicting themselves as the 'biggest club in the country' are spot on! The club is full of sh*t that Joe could see it but he went along with it as an employee of the club at the time.

He's a player I deeply admire and he deserves far more attention and plaudits from our fans than he's received in recent times but I guess it's just a case of him being largely forgotten as time has gone on and the fact he hasn't played a lot of football in the last few years.

The fact that he's a pivotal figure in motivating Eden Hazard to join the club is enough for me to call him a 'legend' on top of the all other accolades and contributions he made for the club during his playing days.

Funny I watched Duff play for Melbourne City on the weekend and had similar thoughts. He just slipped from view largely after he left us. What a player he was in his pomp though. Just goes to show what a difference it makes when you lose that couple of yards of pacee.

I thought he was doing quite well for Fulham when they were still in the league, part of me thought he still had it!

Don't think i'll ever forget the goal he scored against ManUtd in our 3-0 win over them in 2006. That was genius, and he made Ferdinand look like a fool in the process. Which is always a bonus.

It was a brilliant goal and the clincher of the Title in 2006!
