Nice little article that focuses on him in the Mail, as well as a few bits on the youth system in general. Glad to see he's getting close to breaking through even at such a young age because I think this kid could go all the way

Yeah I read that. I didn't know who he was but he sounds promising. Mind you, it seems every young kids seems to be the "next big thing". I think there's too much hype placed tHem.

Needs a growth spurt

He's ok in that full-back is possibly the main position where you don't need to be a strapping 6+ footer that Mourinho favours. That said, knowing how physical presence is very high up on Jose's criteria, I would be surprised if he made it to the first team here.

Heard a story where I think it's Rick deglanvil was at training the first week or so Leon knight was in the youth team. Apparently he looked head and shoulders above. Rix was youth team manager at the time. When deglanvil asked if we was going to make Rix shook his head and said to short.. It also doesn't help that he's a complete cretin

I think the latest Leon Knight is Islam Feruz. Never going to make it with us due to his size and also seems to have a bit of an attitude problem. Think he went on loan to Blackpool and they have sent him back!

Just googled him and he posted this. Maybe he's grown up a bit but I reckon he's lost too much time.

Time 2 work hard, get fit and get up and running again. Made some bad decisions this year but can only come back STRONG!

Well, Jose bought Ashley.

Yes, but only when he was already an experienced and established international and widely recognized as the best left-back in the world. Jose never likes to gamble and a young DaSilva would be just that.

You can be a small player and still very strong. I remember reading about Sterling at liverpool, and in training he is apparently the hardest to get off the ball because he is so strong for his small stature.

I haven't seen enough of the youth teams to comment, but from the few games I have seen, Jay DaSilva looks really good going forward and defensively. If Azpiliceuta moves to RB, does anyone think he might come in to the first team squad to challenge Rahman?

Going to be tough, since Rahman is only about 21 isn't he? He's obviously the one the club are hoping to take over that spot.

Agreed it will be a tough uphill struggle. All the youth are pretty much in that same boot besides possibly RLC and even he I feel has a battle on his hands to really cement a first team place.

If I were a young footballer no way would I come to Chelsea.

Footballers who are very ambitious only make it in big clubs. Not everyone is built for Chelsea.

At Chelsea, ambition will only take you so far because we just don't look at bringing youngsters through. We'd rather spend £4mil on Papy rather than trusting somebody like Kalas to be a back up CB.

That's because Djilobodji was Plan B. Or C. I'm sure the club believed we'll get Stones so let the youngsters go on loan. By the time the deal was off there was no promising young player to be promoted (if sitting on the bench or not even making the bench can be considered a promotion).

Good point.

Any young player would be foolish to turn down a club this size. Sure youre probably not stepping into the first team right away but when/if youre ready for it you'll be playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world. How many of our academy players do we regret selling or not giving a chance to?

None

I don't think there is any value in Kalas sitting on our bench, actually probably not even on the bench, 4 canter backs ahead of him, he would never get any games

+1. Surely playing games somewhere and gaining game time experience is superior. Only IF you get the game time though.

Definitely seems to be case with CB. I imagine had we seen the Stones saga grinding to a halt we would have at least kept Kalas as an extra CB. But we may see Ola Aina get a chance or 2 at RB if pre-season is anything to go by. Probably in the League Cup if anything.
