Now I didn't see that coming...

Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel's agent has failed to dismiss reports of the 28-year-old Nigeria international making a high-profile switch to Real Madrid.

Thanks to the Daily Star (via the BBC Gossip column) for that laugh! [emoji23]

Well Real don't really have a dedicated DM. They've been playing Modric as their deepest midfielder, but it would hard to argue that he is there to do anything other than improve their quality of possession. Kroos, Illarramendi, and from what I've read Lucas Silva all play reasonably deep, but again, are all creative players. The closest thing they have to a DM is probably Khedira, who looks certain to leave in the summer. That said, Casemiro is returning from his loan at Porto in the summer, and I would have thought they'd want to give him a go before signing anybody new.

While Real have a manager who has won trophies with Mikel in the past, and who probably hasn't appreciated not having Modric absent through injury; this is the club who discarded Maka for not being glamorous enough... Hopefully Mikel is going nowhere!

I rare Mikel, he didn't turn out to be the player he was hyped as a 17 year old but then again neither did Freddie adu. People complain about squad depth and that's what Mikel offers, he's not better the matic for sure, but he offers us a pretty decent back up option and has always been completely professional

We make overtures towards Bale and Varane and in return they go after Mikel.

Those bar stewards :face_palm:

On a more serious note....

According to Sports Direct we sell about 8% of our shirts in Lagos. That's a considerable amount but if we can get that Japanese bloke then the growth in the Asian market would probably exceed anything we'd lose in the Nigerian one.

In purely football terms, I'm not sure how many Chelsea-branded footballs we sell around the world so I don't think it'll have a massive impact in that area.

I was in Kenya last summer, on nearly every corner someone was wearing a Chelsea shirt. Our brand is growing, an Asian player would probably increase exposure and marketability as well.

There were a fair few Chelsea shirts on display in Kuala Lumpur - my husband didn't agree with my preferred method of choosing which restaurant to go to - whichever one had a waiter wearing a Chelsea shirt.

Husbands can be so dense sometimes!

They have probably realised that he's awful and started looking elsewhere.

I haven't really seen a great deal of him other than Porto's win over Bayern in which he looked decent - what is he like?

Had some decent games leading up to that match and has improved somewhat but he's still pretty average regardless. He's not a DM, that much is clear. Reckless tackler which causes him to give way too many fouls away, misplaces way too many passes, can't position himself properly, can't really do anything. Nothing that stands out anyway.

I'll be amazed if he makes it at Madrid.

He won't but dear god I hope we get rid of the trash

John Obi Mikel :)

Have some respect for a player that has been a part of our most successful period ever for f**ks sake. Calling him trash just makes you look like an idiot.

Lol he's been in our siccessful period, but hasn't played a key role at all. He's fringe

Dkw, just ignore him. He has no clue what he's talking about.

I know exactly what im talking about, you're probably another armchair fan who never goes to games and just comments about it online LOL

None of that means a player that has played a part in us winning many trophies while back ng a superb professional, never causing an problems and doing his job deserves to be called trash. Get a grip.

Every club NEEDS fringe players.

Plus he's made over 300 appearances for us, including in the Champions League Final. So you can't just dismiss his role.

You really don't know what you're talking about Praz. You want us to sell all our loanees despite them making us millions of pounds.

Even though I personally think it's not that important here, seeing as you're quick to accuse others of being armchair fans, do you go to games?

I'm not Mikels biggest fan and I'd like us to move on from him but he deserves better than being called trash. Have a bit of respect.
