Be honest...

Featured Replies

Was quietly optimistic, but was never going to run around shouting from the rooftops that we were going to do it.

I know many people, some Chelsea included, went on about how boring we were.  I feel that we gave both Manchester clubs way too much respect, and I was worried that those games would be the ones to haunt us.  However, we were very nearly perfect, and even the 1-0's that we would grind out just further emphasized that we were going to do it.  As has been said, those 1-0's are the mark of Champions; grinding out a result when maybe we wouldn't have before.

The levels of anxiety was clear to see among many of our fan base especially when City closed the gap on us mid season, but those that were lamenting the closed gap refused to consider just how perfect opposition would need to be for the rest of the season for us to lose it.

Top since day one, that's a thing of beauty.  I don't think any other team has done that, and we have beaten Manchester United's streak of longest at the top of the table in a single season too.

It's going to be interesting to see the evolution of this team, especially as we continue to operate under the guidelines of FFP.  Very happy for some of the veterans today, but also very excited for some of the lads that won their first one.  Hopefully, if success breeds success, we'll see them all win again and again.

Also, props to Roman, the enemy of football.  Home and away games, youth cup games, and he still has that giddy schoolboy look about him when watching us play.  For the pundits saying he'll demand more attractive football, I'd retort that Trophies will always counter that argument.

KTBFFH, folks.  Can't wait for the celebrations with my little girl (her first).

Cheers

Scotty

Since this is the "Be honest..." thread, I'll be the one to point out that we were only second on goal difference after match day two. If Arfield hadn't scored against us, we'd been on top due to alphabetical order.

Lots of doubts, sometimes got the better of me leading to some of my fellow blues on here having not too flattering things to say about me. The last wobble was the draw at home to Burnley.

However before we faced Hull I looked at what we had for points and the games we had left and believed a spin of three wins on the bounce against Hull, Stoke and QPR would set us up to go on and win the league, I posted as much on here.

Once those three games were won I was fairly sure we would finish the job.

After we got through that tricky run of away games against QPR, Hull, West Ham etc and then beat Man U, I was pretty confident we'd do it.

Well, they did win 8 in a row, you got to give them that.

Pity they were so sh*t in the first half of the season or they might have mustered a title challenge.

My head said we had to win the league all season, but my dickie ticker said otherwise, particularly with so many pens going against us, injuries, facing teams that did a Lazarus recovery for some reason just in time to face us...now I look at the table, the 13 point gap, and wonder what the hell was I worried about...

Well, I'm always one to dream up worst case scenarios, but looking back Mou is the last manager you'd expect to screw up a title challenge.

It's not like he's Brendan Rodgers...

i was worried when Drogba started the QPR game, though was one game, then it become 2, 3. To the players' credit, we coped well without the 1/2 strikers, something we could;t manage last year with 3 fit strikers. The form of Hazard and the acquisition of Ces really added a new dimension, we could sneak a goal anytime and close it out.

When we lost to spuds and were even on points and goal diff we were still heavy favorites with the bookies and for good reason. The way some people were speaking on here on new years day you would of thought it was completely all over yet were sere still in all four competitions and we've ended up winning two.

Something changed in the team after that day at White Hart Lane. We have rarely slid up in the league since. Southhampton and Burnley are the obvious ones but we still picked up a point in each of those games. The defeat to Bradford in the FA cup was never a biggy given our emphasis on the other cup, the UCL and the league but it hurt a lot at the time. The UCL exit wasn't great but people forget that we were 2 minutes away from progressing on two separate occasions......99 times out of a hundred that doesn't happen to us and maybe it was just our destiny this year with the premier league.

Fantastic season. Never really doubted us from the start in the league. Put $400 on us at $2.90 on day one and just received my $1150.

You can't help having doubts, had a few myself but then I'd be like no we're gonna do this. No matter what anyone says though you will have the doubts and it's not a fault at all, just one of those things.
