So...Next Season's Squad?

Featured Replies

This year we had eleven players who we relied on far too heavily to sustain a challenge across four trophies. I also think our performances suffered in the new year because we simply didn't have reinforcements we could rotate in so what squad can win the league and CL next year, or at least come damn close?

GK - Courtois, Backup GK, Blackman or Beeney

DF - Ivanovic, Cahill, Terry, Zouma, Azpilicueta, CRESSWELL, Christensen

MF - Matic, Fabregas, Ramires, Loftus-Cheek, Mikel, Chalobah

AM - Willian, Cuadrado, Oscar, Hazard, BALE

ST - Costa, LACAZETTE, Solanke

That to me is a team that can win the biggest prize in Europe.

The big signings are Bale and Lacazette and we're talking £100 million. Cresswell is apparently doable at £15 million but that's offset by Luis leaving.

Also means selling Remy and Cech, whilst releasing Drogba as well. A bit of Football Manager combined with the real world FFP figures.

I'd also be happy so sell one of Ramires and Mikel, or both even, but that means bringing in at least one more player. Khedira might be worth a punt. The other question is on a backup keeper but I think Green or Bettinelli from Fulham would be next to nothing.

Nice.  I think Ake deserves a spot also.  And Bamford.  I am not too keen on spending a huge sum to get Bale, but I understand that  may be needed to win the CL.

I would much rather us go after Vietto rather than Lacazette. Also apart from a striker I think we should not buy any other player who is not called Varane or Pogba.

This is the team I would like us to have next season

GKs: Courtois, Bettinelli, Blackman

FBs: Azpi, Brana, Luis, Ake

CBs: Terry, Zouma, Varane, Kalas

CMs: Matic, Fabregas, Pogba, RLC

AMs: Oscar, Baker, Hazard, Cuadrado, Willian

FWs: Costa, Vietto, Remy, Abraham (Would move Solanke on the loan ladder as soon as possible)

Ake can be the back up fullback and also cover for DM

If its not possible to get Varane then I would keep Cahill, if we can get Varane then we have a great opportunity to flog Cahill away to city)

Will get Khedira on a free if cant get Pogba but definitely get ramires and mikel out

Out: Mikel, Moses, Salah & one of our strikers

In: Central midfielder, Striker and a defender

As Gary Neville pointed out we really do need another strong central midfielder next to Matic then we can push Fabregas into number 10 and rotate with Oscar from time to time and in the games against the weaker sides we keep Matic and Fabregas in midfield.

3 good investments will really improve the squad I think.

Players I would like to see come in next season:

GK - Tim Krul (as a backup, think could be worth a punt if Newcastle go down)

CB - Varane

CM - Pogba (who knows how realistic that is) or Schneiderlin

AM - Bale (again how realistic)

ST - Dybala.

Would like us to keep hold of Remy and wouldn't be too sad if one of/ both Mikel and Ramires were too leave and also can see Cahill going if we sign Varane. So my squad for next season would be as follows:

GKs - Tibo, Krul, Blackman

FBs - Iva, Dave, Luis

CBs - Terry, Zouma, Varane

CMs - Matic, Fabregas, Pogba/ Schneiderlin, RLC

AMs/ Wingers - Hazard, Oscar, Willian, Cuadrado, Bale

STs - Diego, Remy, Dybala, Solanke

We definitely need a quality CM if we are to challenge for the UCL and the League. Mikel and Ramires are not good enough backup at all for Cesc and Matic.

Completely forgot about Moses. £6 million+ to Stoke?

I think that Fabregas and Matic are good enough to best most teams and have been all season but there's those dozen or so games a year where we need something more.

Loftus-Cheek could be that. He's big enough, he reads the game superbly and he in fantastic on the ball. The problem is we have no idea how he'll perform in the first team, although based on what we've seen so far he has as good a chance as any.

That means we could do away with Mikel which I know some won't like but he's played just 529 minutes in the league this year and in recent weeks we've seen Mourinho turn to Zouma first when looking to defend a lead. I'd much rather see Jose take a small gamble on youth than retain a relatively cheap player who could bring in a transfer fee.

The other player I nearly went with was Varane. Terry isn't getting any younger despite his age-defying performances so it's something we need to look at sooner or later. I just don't see a scenario where we get him.

Bale is a possibility by the way. An expensive one but with the new sponsorship and TV money it's workable, but you're talking £24 million per season on him which is roughly how much the Yokohama deal is over the Samsung one.

Thats a big shopping list it would cost well over £200m. Even if these players were available and wanted to come to us, we would not be spending that sort of money.

Plus Solanke to already too goog to be rotting away as 4th choice or in the u21s

Incidentally, these players will be returning from loan:

Wallace, Todd Kane, Kenneth Omeruo, Lucas Piazon, Bertrand Traoré, Mario Pasalic, Mohamed Salah, John Swift, Nathaniel Chalobah, Josh McEachran, Oriol Romeu, Gael Kakuta, Marko Marin, Christian Atsu, Ulises Davila, Marco van Ginkel, Victor Moses, Cristian Cuevas, Joao Rodriguez, and Patrick Bamford.

We have one of the biggest pool of loan players in Europe.

We can't sell all of them but most of the above will be back out on loan next season I rekon.

I know.. cant see us getting all of them, but barring Krul are all names we have been linked with. I reckon we will be in for 2 of the 5 I have listed - with the most realistic I reckon Schneiderlin & Varane

Add in a goalkeeper and a left-back and you basically have a functioning squad there. I wonder how they'd do in the Premier League.

Loan, Sell, Loan, Sell, Domestic Loan if possible, Loan, Loan, Sell, Retain, Nandos, Sell, Sell, Put out of misery, Loan, Don't Care, Loan (but the temptation to retain is strong), Sell, Sell, Loan.....Premier League Loan.

And then there's decisions to be made on players like Alex Kiwomya, Jordan Houghton etc. etc. etc.

If we got Bale we'd be unstopable in this league thats for sure.

Other clubs have more resources than us though like United and it could come down to who can pay him more which means we are out of it.

Varne is a good name but he's now starting more than he's missing out on in Madrid and clearly is a huge part of their future and current set up. Madrid won't sell their best defender who's best years are ahead of him.

It's going to be interesting this summer regardless.

I would like to keep the same squad, but as I know it would be impossible, I can see few players leaving.

GK: Courtois, [New one], Blackman.

Defenders: Ivanovic, Terry, Cahill, Azpi, Zouma, Ake, Christensen.

CM's: Matic, Fabregas, Mikel, Loftus-Cheek, Chalobah, Ramires[?] / [New one].

AM's: Hazard, Oscar, Willian, Cuadrado, Bertrand Traore.

ST's: Costa, Remy[?] / [New one], Bamford, Solanke/Brown.

We have enough young good players to include into the squad, we also still have players like Baker, Solanke, Boga, Brown, Colkett, Musonda that need more experience to play against other teams and in better level than u21's league.

As I see we're going to lose Cech next year which is sadly but I think we all can understand and respect this move. We also have few unsure players, Ramires, Luis, Remy. Personally I'd like to see Luis, seems like his move to Chelsea ruined his career a little bit and I can't see him beating Azpi for the LB position, to leave would be the best option for him. Ramires and Remy both were well this season, Ramires can be a great target for other top clubs, same as Remy which I assume wasn't really happy this season, but I still want them both to stay for another season.

We're top team already, our squad is fantastic but few additions would upgrade. We should look for a striker that would be ready to play 2nd/3rd choice, it's a dream to have Jackson Martinez or Lacazette in the team, but I can't see them accepting the terms of playing these positions, Enner Valencia sounds like a well addition. Also we would need another CM if Ramires will be sold, I'd say we will have to go after Pogba. And of course we have to buy another goalkeeper to cover Courtois. Also let's not forget that we have to loan and sell players.

I metioned him a few months ago, he'd be a good signing.

He strikes me as a Mourinho-type player, plus he can play wide which means he wouldn't just be sat on the bench covering Costa.

So many mentioned Bale in here

I agree he will help us dominate the league

However at Champion Leage, he looks out of depth

Didn't look out of depth last season when he was superb in the final

I would be happy with a combination of these CMs and AM/Wingers/Strikers:

Central midfielders (box to box):

1. Pogba

2. Veratti

3. Vidal

4. Koke

5. Gundogan

AM/Wingers/Strikers:

1. Griezmann

2. Lacazette

3. Bale

4. Isco

5. Reus

Pogba and Bale won't happen, so my first choice would be a combination of Pogba and a versatile Griezmann.

You do know Bales been out for weeks right and he is going to take time to get back to his bed right?

This isn't a video game.

Chelsbear

Yes this is not a video game. So Chelsea has a limited fund.

Should that fund be used on Bale or 2 other good players. No way Real will let Bale go cheap (50-60 millions) while MU also shows interest

 SydneyChelsea

Yes I agree Bale single handedly destroyed teams for Spurs in the Premier League. Have he done the same in Champion League beside the Inter game with Maicon forgetting he is a right back?

Chelsea team will be more balance if the fund supposedly used on Bale to be used for other 2 good players.

Bobbywoodhogan

Was Bale super in the CL final last season? I doubt it. You can recheck all the rating of the match.

Yes he scored the winning goal but missing countless chances before that.

Di Maria or Ramos have better shout to be called super in that game
