FIFA Officials Arrested

Featured Replies

Absolutely stunning stuff coming out of the raids today, but it's more stunning that I'm not surprised.

It's now alleged that FIFA officials took bribes for the 2010 World Cup. There's no way that Blatter didn't know this was going on, I can't wait to see him taken down.

I think that there will be convictions arising from these raids. The issue is the time taken by the US legal system to decide anything. We are looking at at least two years hence and probably much longer.

If this was to bring about real change. it would be thrilling to see the whole organisation revamped.

Its about time the UK gets a world cup, its ready made for it!

We are made for it. Don't be shocked however if they put the next world cup (to be bidded for) on the Moon and dismiss the lack of oxygen as a 'minor issue that our expendable Bangladeshi labourers are already working on'

Personally, I was going to boycott watching the 2022 Qatar WC anyway as the treatment, and blatant disregard for human rights, of the Nepalese people dying their at a rate of 1 every 48 hours was appalling. Other reports recently have stated that some workers weren't even granted to leave to check on family after the earthquakes.

I hope that if Qatar is guilty in any way, then we see them stripped of the WC and the runner up get the WC bid.  It may save more lives.

From the NYT:

The soccer officials charged are Eduardo Li, Jeffrey Webb, Eugenio Figueredo, Jack Warner, Julio Rocha, Costas Takkas, Rafael Esquivel, José Maria Marin and Nicolás Leoz.

Overebo is missing from the list.

It lost all credibility when it used the word 'soccer'.

It's the New York Times, it's merely referring to the sport as it's readers would relate to it.

Overebo is missing from the list.

Good point, hopefully the FBI looks into UEFA next, they're as corrupt as anyone.

The DOJ has >90% conviction rate on white collar crime. No way they take on multiple executives of one of the world's highest profile organizations unless they believe it is a near-slam dunk.

They accepted all of that bribe money, just to hand it over to high-profile lawyers that can't even keep them out of prison.

Radio 5 just had an American journalist on the phone, he said he has spoken to top FBI official and the word is that Blatter is the target, they are expecting some of these early arrests do plea deals and become states witness.

these developments came like a tornado. A couple of weeks ago a documentary came on ESPN about Blatter & the corruption w/in FIFA. At the end of the doc, it basically said Blatter was untouchable. Now this? How time flies.

Well done the US for taking these c*nts on. FIFA is nothing more than a criminal organisation, up there with the Mafia et al. Blatter is the target, the Yanks like to go for the top boy, they will use the underlings to get to the man at the top. Ordinarily the US would send in the Marines, in this case a well aimed f*ck off big bomb dropped on FIFA HQ when Blatter is there would see the end of the matter.

What I find beyond contempt is that Blatter welcomes the investigation, want's to see corruption weeded out and stopped, all of which has happened on his watch. The c*nt is deluded!! If he was squeaky clean then the US would have had him at the point of their investigation, the announcement would have come from himself, instead the US have led the way, he's on thin ice and he knows it,

Finally, it's good to see major sponsors coming out and showing concern regards impact of these allegations on their brands. Lets hope they drop FIFA if Blatter gets in again.

UEFA ought to tell FIFA to do one, pull out of the next two world cups now in favour of their own competitions.

Good point, hopefully the FBI looks into UEFA next, they're as corrupt as anyone.

Well, by definition of them looking into FIFA they must be looking into UEFA.

I'm not sure why you think UEFA are corrupt - not a single FIFA delegate arrested was a UEFA member.

The problem with FIFA is that it's an organisation, now, where every country has the same power. So Blatter can get by without caring what UEFA think of him as long as he has enough minor Asian and African countries on his side.
