Petr Cech to Arsenal

Featured Replies

Probably more directed at the club than him personally. I think most would agree that letting one of the best keepers in the world move to one of your nearest rivals for a relatively small fee is completely stupid and is something we absolutely should not do. All the advantages in the deal would be for Arsenal.

I think most would see it as not being the most desirable of moves but would absolutely understand the reasoning behind it.

I honestly can't imagine any supporter annoyed at the club because they've gone about it in the right way. It's just the reality of having a top class keeper being replaced.

But like I've said a few times, I understand how a certain type of fan might feel about it as opposed to another.

Forget the rivalry then you really think 10m is a good deal for us?

Someone mentioned fair market value and I explained the reasoning behind such a price earlier. What is the market value for a second-choice, 33 year old goalkeeper who probably is still top five in the world but is in the last year of his contract?

Given the inflated market for players being sold between English clubs I think £10m is nowhere near enough, especially due to his worth to the intended club, I really think we should be pushing Arsenal for nearly double.

He's that important to them.

So he'd be the second most expensive goalkeeper of all-time (ignoring inflation) at the age of 33 and with one year left on his contract?

After Luiz and Mangala it's possible I suppose.

In today's market £10m might buy a decent Championship player. Wenger can recoup that by selling a couple of fringe players.

Exactly.

£10 million is buttons to team around us.

World class players going for £10 million to a rival? That really does sound as stupid as it looks.

So what is his market value then? People suggesting it's too little but very few actual suggestions of the price based on realistic market expectations.

What 33 year old Championship players would move for £10 million in the last year of their contracts?

33 is nothing for a goalkeeper. They can go on for years yet.

I'm sure we are all aware of numerous examples but are they the exception or the rule? Is Cech physically able to go that long?

I think £15m plus add ons, based on appearnces and trophies won.

Be serious. :laugh2:

But yeah, I can see an argument for that. Funnily enough we'd still be making a profit on him at £10 millon - classic Chelsea.

What 33 year old Championship players are among the best in the world in their position and wanted by the likes of Arsenal?

I'd want nearer to £20m, bearing in mind it's a direct rival and the deal is massively to Arsenal's advantage and not ours at all.

None.

So you'd price him out of a move there? That's a fair point and I can understand fans who wouldn't want to strengthen a rival at any cost or get more for him.

But from what I can gather, the club have said at the highest levels that they won't stand in his way and will let him go wherever he wishes so long as they receive what they believe is a fair price.

For a 33 year old in the last year of his contract I think that probably is around £10 million and talking to people over the last few weeks of the season at matches the consensus has been roughly the same. But it's not worth disagreeing further on because I think we've said all we have to say. We're just on different sides on this debate but at the end of the day we both want what's best for this club.

Cos he's been a legendary figure at the club. If he wants to keep his family in London where they're settled and happy then he has every right to. Let's be serious there are other clubs in London but do you think a man like Cech wants to be playing for Crystal Palace or Fulham? He wants to be playing competitively and Arsenal are offering him that. He's by all means entitled to take that offer. Like Lampard still loves the club but wearing the colours of another team. Given the choice he wants to be playing every game not cameo appearances in cup competitions.

When it comes to the value,

It's like selling a house - property is worth whatever someone is willing to pay. But the importance is finding a buyer who will pay the most.

I would love PSG buying him, however, he wants to stay in London so there are only 2 big clubs that would pay most Arsenal and Spurs. Spurs have Llaris who is about as good as Petr Cech. So unfortunetely that leaves us with Arsenal.

I'm not sure what they would do with Szczesny who had some problems this season.

No but he had excellent couple of seasons.

In my opinion top PL 2015 season GK are,

1) DeGea

2)Tebo (2nd half of the season, I don't think he was good at the beginning of the season)

3)Foster

4)Llaris and Cech (Cech didn't play that many matches but showed some major skills when he played)

People say that Cech could play up to the age of 40, but is that likely? It's the exception rather than the rule and there were those rumblings about his back and knee problems a few years ago. Plus I thought his form in his last full season was the shakiest it had ever been.
