The way their transfer have been handled over the past few seasons, I wouldn't be surprised if they simply messed up the whole thing. To do something like that on purpose would be a bit ridiculous.

Whether through incompetence or petty behaviour, how utterly small time and pathetic from Utd.

So what do Man U gain by not selling him? a little face, as you said you don't think he isn't going to play for you again. So would £29m or £18m and a decent keeper not have been fairly useful especially if you wanted to sign someone like Bale, Neymar or Muller.

So to save a bit of face you have kept a player on the books who doesn't want to be there haven't bought in a quality replacement and aren't going to get a substantial amount of money seems smart to me :/

You don't get it and I suppose it's because you've been fortunate in that Madrid haven't tried to take any of your players yet. But imagine how you'd feel if they tried to take Hazard for £15M. You'd be pretty pissed off, wouldn't you?

That's how we feel, it's how we've felt since they got Ronaldo; the money isn't important but Madrid thinking they can waltz in and just take De Gea off us like it's nothing, is.

It's a part of the bigger picture, one in which Woodward wants to reverse what's been happening so far i.e. all the world class players leaving the PL and going to La Liga (Ronaldo, Bale, Suarez).

Screwing them over with the De Gea deal just showed them a massive amount of intent, and they'll think twice before trying to take one of our players off us again.

There's a reason they say Real always get their man, it's because they walk all over everyone. I say it's about time someone told them to do one ... and we just did.

That's how we feel, it's how we've felt since they got Ronaldo; the money isn't important, Madrid thinking they can waltz in and take De Gea off us in the first place is bad enough, never mind for such an insulting fee as £13M.

Dont be ridiculous, they will just come and nab him for half the price you were offered in January, or free in the summer. De Gea will now be in a foul mood and it will just create a stench in the dressing room. Not smart, just small time.

You got £80M for Ronaldo, a word record fee at the time. Madrid are a bigger club than Utd and so are in a more commanding position, you just have to accept that.

If Hazard reached Ronaldo levels, they will come for him and he will most likely go. We have already accepted this.

All you have done is saved Madrid a lot of money  £29m is frankly ridiculous for someone with 1 year left on his contract you should have been laughing that you managed to sell him for that much, now he just leaves in a years time it doesn't stop anything. Stupid stupid piece of business.

Also this could all have been prevented if you had signed de Gea on a new contract before he had a great season and Madrid got interested.

And anyway it was Madrid who made the blunder not Man U maybe they decided it was very stupid to sign him now so f**ked up the paperwork.

Florentino Perez is going to find a way to get this through. I can even see it all going to court if LFP doesn't give in and register De Gea.

I don't think United really give a f**k about 18 million, but at the same time it was immature and something i'd expect more from a club like Liverpool that are scared about losing their relevance.

And when they take him on a free or at a further reduced fee in January I'm sure they'll have been shown a real lesson by Woodward.

To the United fan who thinks United have done this on purpose; it's actually Real who haven't sent the paperwork to La Liga. Seems to me they have either been arrogant, stupid or have gotten cold feet about the whole thing given that they could get him for less in Jan and for free next Summer.

The Guardian's reporting that Glenn Murray has gone to Bournemouth, which can only be good news for Patrick Bamford. Odd move from Palace though, he seemed like their most trusted striker although I suppose if they are trying to step up to the next level he might not be the kind of player upon whom you want to depend.

Rumours that Wednesday are interested in Frazier Campbell as well.

Aston Villa apparently approached Palace about taking Dwight Gale on loan for the season too.

Could be Palace are lining up a signing themselves.... Charlie Austin maybe?

Transfer deadline day continues to be a sea of bemusement:

"It is being suggested that the reason Ramiro Funes Mori’s price increased from £6.25m to £9.5m was because his River Plate contract entitled him to 50% of any transfer fee and, rather than risk the deal collapsing, Everton decided to pay the extra £3.25m with no central defensive alternatives lined up at this late stage in the window. Also claimed Everton only became aware of Funes Mori’s entitlement late last week. Everton have not confirmed or denied the allegation."

Connor Wickham won't be too happy about it.

Apparently Lescott's having a medical at Villa as well - I think he would be a very good signing.

Centre back pairing of Lescott and Richards... They could certainly do a lot worse.

Sherwood continuing to target a British core to his side by the looks of things.

Smart business on his part if they stay fit.

Supposedly they're in for Berbatov as well, which would certainly be interesting, although I can't really think of anyone worse than Sherwood to serve as a motivator to a player like Berbatov.
