I suppose it's time to start up this thread for next season.

I did post this in the last seasons thread but I need something to get us started with.....

BBC reporting that Manchester United are eyeing up deals for Sergio Ramos and Bastian Schweinsteiger.

Ramos at 29 years and and Schweinsteiger turning 31 on August 1st suggests that United are looking for a quick fix to their squad with little thought to longevity.

No doubt both players would massively improve their first team but would surely come at a huge cost both transfer fee wise and wages.

After throwing £150m at their squad last season with mixed results I suppose we should expect similar again this year. Really aggressive approach from the club since bringing in Van Gaal as manager.

Very risky from them, both getting on a bit now Schweinsteiger is class but seems to have faded in the last year or so, Ramos wouldn't exactly sort them out defensivley either!

With Ramos I suppose it's a case of bringing in some much needed experience and seniority.

Smalling is never going to be top class defender and Jones' injury record has seriously stunted his development.

Schweinsteiger had a bit of an injury hit season didn't he? United are overly reliant on Carrick in midfield, Herrera just wasn't disciplined enough without him in the team, like with the defence I suppose they're looking for some experience but as I said it seems a short term fix and United could find themselves spending big for the next few years if this is how they're going to approach their transfers.

Manchester United are too big to embrace a proper rebuild hence they're going down the path of quick-fix solutions to appease those high up in the club and to most importantly appease their supporters who largely consist of bandwagoners! I think they'll be just relieved that they made the top 4 season after a poor season under Moyes who's problems were largely caused by Ferguson's inability to leave his successor with a good squad to manage and inherit.

I would love to see Manchester United fail miserably for a third successive season which hasn't been seen since 2004-2006 which coincides with our last truly dominant era in my opinion. They'll contend for the title if they hit the ground running well but I don't fear them like I used to.

I can see this years top 4 finishing in the same positions next season. Arsenal maybe pipping city to 2nd with the introduction of cech.

I think United would find more success in signing Otamendi and Schneiderlin than Ramos and Bastian.

They really should address their Rooney issue as well. They can't be serious about challenging on 4 fronts with Rooney, van Persie, and Keane leading the line can they? Rooney is close to being finished as a footballer and he is just on too much money, he was past his sell date years ago. What they should do for next season is reduce Rooney's role in the team and sign a new striker.

City have been quiet but they could spring a surprise signing. I can see them signing Sterling and perhaps Reus.

Arsenal are very lucky to have signed Cech. If they can sign Benzema and a new DM, they'll definitely challenge next season.

Russia cut £340m from their World Cup 2018 budget despite half they stadium builds allegedly being behind schedule.

In fairness the budget still stands at £7.4b so it's still significant money we're talking about here but you can't help wondering if the recent FIFA arrests have had a bearing on this decision.

I've noticed something about last season. The majority of the top European club's 3 most influential offensive players are not from the country of the team they play for.

I'll start with us

Chelsea

Hazard(Belgium), Willian(Brazil), Costa(Spain)

Arsenal

Sanchez(Chile), Ozil(Germany), Giroud(France)

Man City

David Silva(Spain), Yaya(Ivory Coast), Aguero(Argentina)

Real Madrid

Bale(Wales), Ronaldo(Portugal), Benzema(France)

Barcelona

Neymar(Brazil), Messi(Argentina), Suarez(Uruguay)

Bayern

Ribery(France), Robben(Netherlands), Lewandowski(Poland)

P.S.G

Cavani(Uruguay), Lavezzi(Argentina), Ibrahimovic(Sweden)

Juventus

Vidal(Chile), Lloriente(Spain), Tevez(Argentina)

Atletico

Griezmann(France), Turan(Turkey), Mandzukic(Croatia)

I found this rather fascinating.

You could put Fabregas instead of Willian but it doesn't change anything.

Parma to start as amateurs in the fourth tier of the Italian league next season after failing to pay off a large debt. Had some great players in the past including the wonderful Gianfranco.

Maybe they can use some of the 87 players they had on loan last season to help them out?

"top European club's"

damn, beat me too it haha.

We should send out mass mails to MUFC shareholders enticing them to pressure the board into paying out their transfer warchest as dividends lol

Was nodding along in agreement until you mentioned Rooney. He is not close to being finished at all, people have been saying that for a couple of years now. Why would they reduce his role in the team? He's consistently one of their best players.

Pellegrini told Chilean newspaper El Mercurio: "When he wins, Mourinho wants to take credit for everything. I don't do that.

"When I won the Premier League, I didn't say a word.

"I don't have any problem with him, he's not my enemy and there isn't any conflict with him but I differ from Mou on all fronts.

"I have no interest in analysing him as a person."

What a spineless, Arsene Wenger like c**t.

He's bitter because he knows his club don't want him and as soon as the one they do want comes available he's getting kicked arse first out the door.

Him and Wenger could do a remake of Grumpy old Men.

When did Mourinho take credit for the league win?

Have I missed something here?

Seems to me Pellegrino, for a man who doesn't talk about anything, talks a lot about Mourinho.

i feel like ive read a pellegrini interview about chelsea almost every week. i think he legitimately goes to bed clutching his pillow dreaming of a win over mourinho

I see him and Wenger more as a gruesome version of Stadtler and Waldorf, off the Muppets....

They're certainly hilarious, without meaning to be :-)

Pellegrino just comes off looking a prat here, Jose always says it's the teams win etc and he even said he doesn't care for individual awards. Yet show how he wants attention for it? Yeah right Pellegrino, just because you know you're only in your job for one more year max
