Newcastle v Burton Albion to look forward to next season...

Edit: Mike Ashley was a bit cynical. He didn't properly invest in Newcastle for some seasons and, this season, chucked some money at the team to, as he hoped, secure a PL place and a chunk of the TV money. If Newcastle going down gets Ashley away from the club then it will not all be bad for them as he uses the club and does not appear to have ambition.

Not long. He seems likeable but Everton cannot defend and he hasn't fixed that problem. I wonder who'll replace him?

Sunderland seem favourites this evening. That says a lot about Everton's recent form. Safety is in Sunderland's grasp and I hope they do it.

 

Allardyce is reaching Pulis level in relegation escapes.

 

They would both do well as survival specialists. Sign an interim contract with a relegation threatened team when the manager is inevitably sacked a few months into the season, collect a big bonus in May, jet off to a private tropical island, return 6 months later where they'll be met at the airport by chairmen on their knees begging them to join.

 

Rinse and repeat. 

 

Would make them heroes at clubs across the country, and they'll accumulate a treasure trove of knowledge on the weaknesses of players at clubs competing for survival, allowing them to easily win the relegation 6 pointers.

That's a good business idea. Sunderland acted sooner than Newcastle to make a change. Had Benitez had more time, perhaps he would have helped keep Newcastle up?

Moyes to Everton is an interesting idea. Towards the end of his time at Everton, some fans felt that he lacked ambition but Martinez hasn't improved the team in the medium term. I just wonder whether Everton fans would feel that Moyes was a step backwards?

AVBs an interesting shout. I think it's high time for a premier league club to go for Emery. 

 

Not sure if he'd be interested in Everton but they'll be able to offer him a much bigger wedge than at Sevilla.

Bookie bullsh*t. Not only would that be major treason for them to manage Everton, but Gerrard doesn't even have his UEFA manager badge yet. He's working on his B badge I believe. Don't know about Carragher. Carragher's pundit salary is probably not that far below a starting manager salary. It would be crazy for him to switch jobs.

I'd be surprised if McLaren manages in the PL again... once bitten twice shy and all that.

 

Koeman I think has one eye on the Arsenal job. I think Everton will move on from Moyes personally, he did a cracking job there but they were always also rans. Eddie Howe's a good outsider but I think needs to prove he's no 'one season wonder' by keeping Bournemouth up again next year. I reckon it'll be De Boer or Hughes (though can see De Boer at Spurs if Poch wants the United job, sorry Spud!)

Hughes is an interesting idea. I defer to others with more knowledge of his managerial career but he doesn't yet seem to have stepped up to the top level. If new owners are going to invest in Everton, they might want someone with more of a record at the top level.

Poch to Utd is worryingly plausible...it makes more sense on paper than Jose tbh.

If Brighton, who were 20th in the Championship last year, win the playoff, this will truly have been a remarkable season for underdogs in each of the top three tiers.

Burton Albion were promoted to League One for the first time in history last season and have secured promotion straight up to the Championship after only a year in League One. Their stadium seats about 6000.

To think that next season there will be league games between Burton Albion and Aston Villa :shok:

At the start of the season I wanted Villa, Sunderland & Newcastle to all go down, mainly because we always seem to struggle at these places regardless of the respective league positions at the time of playing.

Sunderland, the spawny gits, do it every season and get away with it ! two years ago they were as good as down at the end of March, then suddenly start playing!!  they manage to stay up, with 3 points against us at the Bridge giving them a huge helping hand, and same again this season.

Still I suppose as the song says, "two out of three ain't bad!"   :32:

I think I'm right in saying that if Leicester win and Spurs lose this weekend it will be the second highest title winning margin in English football history.

Thirteen point gap would be huge, what's intetrsting is Leicester can only get 83 puts which is one of the lowest in the PL era

I read on Twitter and I believe someone mentioned it in here that Tottenham need 1 more point to beat their tally under AVB. Surely that shows that the other teams have been atrocious and not that Spuds have improved vastly. They're obviously a good side but that little factoid is very telling.
