May 12, 201610 yr Hope Martinez suffers bankruptcy, dejection and misery and stays away from football. His antics and attitude towards Chelsea left a sour taste. Utter scumbag.
May 12, 201610 yr Author Benitez relegated and the Martinez sacked within 24 hours? The season isn't so bad after all.
May 12, 201610 yr Benitez relegated and the Martinez sacked within 24 hours? The season isn't so bad after all. Every cloud and all that
May 12, 201610 yr Hey I'm Bob he's Rob Personally I think he simply got found out, they did well in his first season. I think a lot of that was he got lucky getting good seasons out of Distin and Barry who were both over the hill. Also Lukaku was fresh in with a point to prove etc. Since then though they have massively underachieved and that is down to Martinez. Him and Rodgers are quite similar but I'd actually rate Rodgers a little higher. Martinez Wigan winning the FA Cup was a fluke and I think many Wigan fans would agree and I don't mean any disrespect when I say that either. Martinez and Rodgers (please come back to management Brendan) share a neglectful approach to defence. You must start with a competent defence as goals mean little if you concede more than you score. In fairness to Martinez and other managers, I deplore the modern trend of players sometimes deciding not to bother. We've seen it a lot this season, at all types of clubs, and it stinks. Players take the money and should at least put the effort in.
May 12, 201610 yr Pochettino signs new 2 year contract extension, Tuesday's meeting with Fergie was a "thanks but no thanks"? I think it was more like, 'see you at United in a year'. Poch has no reason not to sign on for likely more money at Spurs, United can buy him out anyway. Had he not signed an extension I think the writing would have been on the wall and all too obvious he was planning to leave
May 12, 201610 yr I'm sure he'll be singing 'sacked in the morning' in his shower in the mornings, we know he likes a catchy football chant. Muppet, good riddance.
May 12, 201610 yr Saw France's squad now. Giroud over Lacazette? Mangala over Umtiti? Strange decisions. Edited May 12, 201610 yr by IliyaKrostin
May 12, 201610 yr Saw France's squad now. Giroud over Lacazette? Mangala over Umtiti? Strange decisions. The French national team has for years been messed up beyond belief in terms of interpersonal relationships. Lloris was named captain by process of elimination. He was basically the only player who didn't have an ongoing feud with half the squad, threaten the manager, blackmail teammates with sex tapes, etc. Deschamps can't only think about skill level when selecting the squad. By the way, there's a thread on the tournament in the International sub forum.

May 12, 201610 yr Why would he choose Man United over Spurs? $$$$$$$$$$ er I mean £££££££££ Edited May 12, 201610 yr by Stim
May 12, 201610 yr $$$$$$$$$$ er I mean £££££££££ How big are the wage gaps between the top clubs? I would have thought he'd make a good chunk this year due to finishing higher, but I'm pretty clueless about coach/manager salaries. Man United would give him power over transfers as he would be manager and not coach. He expressed some frustration about that aspect of the Spurs job.

May 12, 201610 yr Newcastle are run by financial idiots. Didn't bother to insert relegation clause into January contracts even though they were in a relegation battle. Now they'll have to pay Shelvey £80,000 a week in the Championship. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2016/04/11/newcastle-would-have-to-pay-jonjo-shelvey-80000-a-week-in-the-ch/ I can see them becoming Bolton.

May 12, 201610 yr I think it shows how arrogant they wereBefore I thought they were the most likely to bounce back up, until I took a closer look at their spending. Eesh. I don't know if it's arrogance, maybe just stupidity. Maybe both. That's also some serious irresponsibility on the part of whoever negotiates the fine details of the contracts. Unfortunately we haven't included relegation clauses in our player contracts either which is both stupid and arrogant. When you're dealing with wages this high, having a relegation clause is a no brainer formality. Reportly Roman was having sleepless nights over that when we were in relegation form. Say what you will about David Moyes or Arsène Wenger, they're good at spending with restraint. Van Gaal has spent an astonishing £200 million more at Man United than Moyes. May 12, 201610 yr If anyone can make a 'money can't buy you Stones' or any other kinds of 'in your face Martinez' song, now is the time.
May 13, 201610 yr And Newcastle like to think of themselves as a big club...it's their local paper, but still, how cringeworthy is this: http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/news/north-east-news/open-letter-rafa-benitez-petition-11325082
May 13, 201610 yr It seems these days that even the smaller clubs have delusions of grandeur.....all wanting Champions League football at a whim. Flores was a decent manager and he achieved the target the Watford Board set him...stay in the league...yet they still boot his arse out the door in the hopes of landing a big name manager. The last few games have been poor but that's down to the players knowing they are safe and their heads already on the beach. The thought of so much money has blinded these clubs. This season was a freak of nature with so many big name players in the bigger clubs not turning up; it won't happen again anytime soon. But if there is one sacking I am glad to see and that is of Martinez, a mediocre manager at best who couldn't keep his mouth shut and where his ego got the better of him in the end. Thank f**k he has gone so I won't have to listen to his drivel any longer. Looking forward to next season now where I am sure there will be some very tough competition for the top 4, and it will be a bloodbath to get there....no one can take a top 4 spot for granted any longer.....not even Arsenal.

Last few? More like the last 5 months. Only Palace and Villa have been worse since the turn of the year. He did a good job in the first half of the season but I still think he's a poor manager, he was dreadful at Benfica and looking at him now he's not improved at all and is still displaying the same problems 7/8 years later.
