John Stones

Regardless of the money we offer Everton, Stones is not leaving this window (it appears)...Everton have backed themselves firmly in the corner now with Martinez's comments regarding money can't buy everything...well he and the Board will now look absolute prats if they sell to us now and will get some serious stick from their fans....if it wasn't bad enough already with the all the banners flying around it, surely will only get a lot worse if they sell.

I think its time to look at the other options we have as Plan B........there is a plan B right?

I think Plan B is wait till the next window.

We don't require a CB, so hopefully the money get's put into the position we actually need strengthening (midfield!)

What has changed exactly?

Martinez just won't sell him and made that clear last night, and I don't think the board will go behind his back, so I don't see where else it can go.

Stones might be confused and wanting to leave, and a few fans will be angry, but come the middle of September it'll be forgotten and everyone'll just get on with the season as normal, and no doubt the situation might be revisited in January or next summer.

Yes, wanting to leave a club who never win anything and move to the current league champions and play alongside world class players... he must be confused.

I don't think there is a "plan b". Mourinho often speaks about the importance of waiting for the right player to become available (see Costa) so my guess it we'll wait and go back in next summer. Providing we don't get him this window that is...

Yeah the boy is being poorly advised.

Why would he want to play alongside the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Eden Hazard and Pedro when he can slug it out with Gareth Barry and Steven Naismith instead.

What I will say is credit to Martinez for staying with Wigan when he got them relegated and reject the chance to manage a "bigger club" who were still in the Premier League and could probably achieve more with. Oh wait...

stones was not worth more than 20million.

Cant say i am happy that this is not happening but i dont think i would lose sleep over it. yes, him and zouma along with baba would have solved some major headaches for a decade but we have players like kalas and christensen who are very talented too.

plus 34mil or 40mil for stones would have been crazy money.

if we get someone like aymen abdennour who is a solid defender just turned 26 and decent money, plus a CM, i would be happier.

This. Martinez is a slithering reptile and the sooner he shuts the hell up, the better. Useless manager and a complete waste of oxygen.

And it's not like he then immediately poached their best player (McCarthy) or anything, and certainly not in a drawn out process with about 5 different bids made  :139:

What has changed, exactly ?

Stones has put in a transfer request, which in some parallel universe means hes now less likely to move. Figure that one out.

Like has been previously mentioned I'm not entirely convinced that a) we need him right now b) he's worth anywhere near that.

If we can't get him we should just wait until the right player is available (if possible) I think I personally wanted him to sign to give the players a lift but to be honest pedro will/has done that

It seems like a veeery long time since we actually played any football..........

To be honest I dread match days nowadays

The 2nd half of the West Brom game almost gave me a nervous breakdown

What has changed exactly?

Like you said he would never hand in a transfer request, seriously nobody knows which way your board will go on this, not even Martinez.

Those that are saying "whatever we don't really need him right now" are being incredibly short-sighted.

English players of his talent don't come along very often and when they do they need to be snapped up at the first opportunity because for as long as you don't get him there's a possibility that one of your rivals will.

Before someone says it, this is not stockpiling or signing a player just to stop someone else having him.

To be able to sign a homegrown player that is actually good enough to play and genuinely compete for a spot is priceless, it helps to try and avoid situations like City with Delph where you're just signing a player to sit on the bench and fill a quota or like us now with looking to keep Moses.

Also overlooking the factor that imo he is already as good as Cahill and will most definitely reach heights that Cahill will or has.

You're not getting the player, so get over it. All these digs at Everton are totally unnecessary and somewhat petty. He's our player, under contract and we've decided not to sell him. That's allowed. It's not immoral or small time.

I know you're used to getting what you want, but in this instance it doesn't appear that's going to happen.

The homegrown rule is ruining English football. That's for sure.

Stones has a chance to come here and win trophies as opposed to becoming the next Ryan Shawcross and his club and the slithering reptile Martinez are holding him back.

Without the homegrown rule this would have been done and dusted months ago.

^^^ verge of tears.

Yes I was wrong about the transfer request. But a variety of your fans have been coming on here saying 'we'll get this wrapped up tomorrow' or 'he'll be signed by the next game' or '30m and it's a done deal', and none of them have been remotely right.

At least I fronted up straight away and said 'well clearly I was wrong about that'. I haven't seen or heard a single person from your fanbase admit they were totally wrong.
