Can we "still" win the league?

Featured Replies

Pretty much this. I'd consider it a successful season if we finish in the top 3, win a domestic cup and at least reach the semi finals of the champions league. Also once the season is over we need a massive clearout. Let's do what we did last season- identify those who need to leave and those we need to get and get them as soon as possible, even before the European championship starts.

I know we're not going to win the league every season; no team does but I want to see improvement. We have the money and the clout to get these players.

Whom do you want to clear out?

Can we still win the league? Yes, mathmatically we still can.

Will we win the league though? In my opinion, nope, sorry, no chance. City have strengthened considerably and look like they're going to storm it.

So then, it's time to lower my expectations. Get the team playing like a team again, blood in a couple of the youngsters, secure a champions league place and potentially win one of the domestic cups.

The inquest will come at the end of the season but if we achieve the above then I will be content.

I've taken a look a look at city's fixtures for the next month and it looks depressingly easy. Their next 'big' game is Utd in mid October and as long as they keep trashing the lower teams they can afford to lose that one.

We won't win the league this year. Any realistic supporter from any club can see Man City look far too strong this year and just had an unbelievable transfer window.

Otamendi, Delph, De Bruyne and Sterling are all excellent signings. Even Delph is good back up.

As long as we get our form back and sustain a reasonable challenge and a good European showing, I'll be happy. We could be out of the league race in the first 6/7 games though if we don't address our problems which is utterly disappointing.

Funny how peoples expectations differ, I'd consider top 3 finish, a domestic cup, and CL semi final a pretty good season and one where the players involved are not looking over their shoulder because a clear out is on the cards, more so if we achieve those things after a dodgy pre season and iffy start.

Obviously age is catching up with some but I'd like to see how they all perform over a season before eagerly awaiting a mass exodus.

There's still time for this group to pull together and show us some good football over the course of the season and we might all be crowing about the way we play once we hit a purple patch (I'm sure it's just a couple of little tweaks and a sharpening up away).

People seem to read a lot into our tailing off last season and grinding out results to stumble across the line, I don't buy into that as much as I do that we done exactly what we needed in the circumstances, with Costa's hamstrings and little cover we played more defensively...good managing for me, this season we worry still about his hamstrings but if they hold up and if Falcao improves we have three decent options up front and have aquired a much more productive looking player on our right side.

The new LB will likely play a part and Kenedy is sure to force his way into contention if his Debut is anything to go by.

Could easily still be a brilliant season, Mourinho has slipped a bit of late, what with the miserable interviews, the medic thing and his unusual strange and late substitutions, he needs to show what he can do and I'm confident he will.

Of course we can still win the league. Citeh I think will want to progress in Europe as their top priority along with the league of course so I think Citeh will slip up as the fixture schedule will start to mount up. Chelsea has the best manager in the world and a squad that won the title just months ago so the worm will turn and you see our season back on track starting against Everton.

How about the defence?

And the striking option...and midfield. At least goalkeeping will be solid, we can be this years united! Lol.

All joking aside I don't know what is more worrying, our defense or our lack of creative spark.

Dropping 8 points from the first 12 is a disastrous start and right now we don't look certs for top 4, never mind winning the league.

But a lot can change quickly and it would be great to win it this time by coming from down the table a bit and watching those above us crash & burn as we gain our momentum.

It would be great, but I won't be putting any money on it!!

If it comes to next season, a new central defender (or perhaps even two) and a right full-back would be deemed absolutely necessary.

Currently, I would say the defensive side of things is a greater concern.

City looking very strong, but they will hit their bad patch, and we will eventually come into form if we sort out the current issues and get Oscar back.

Could still happen, but realistically man city have had a better start and  better transfer activity to make their squad stronger. Would love us to do it, would be amazing but champions league win would be better:)

I think the discussion of winning the title is over for now! We just need to see the team get some confidence back and start building their campaign from this Wednesday onwards when we play our first Champions League game.

The worst thing we can do now is start panicking because that will just hinder the team further! We need to back Jose to get us on back track. A man of his record deserves time to redeem himself.

This season I'll be supporting City in all the big matches...because we won't beat them, and I want as many points taken from our rivals (such as Watford and Bournemouth) as possible.
