Walsall vs. Chelsea (LC) 23/09/15 KO 19:45 GMT

Featured Replies

We're lucky that Walsall is far away from being a PL team. We played simple, but I wanted to watch a better attacking football. Anyways, I don't really think this win will affect on our confidence but I'm still happy.

Said no one ever.

Sad that some people can't let their dislike of mikel be over-ridden by what they see.  Mikel was excellent tonight, and gave a masterclass in both defensive midfield play and playing the through ball to a striker's run.  He showed why he is a valuable squad member, and still some people criticise, not for what he has done, but because of their own sad prejudices.

Pedro - what a class. Hazard wouldn't score that. He would dribble, pass through the opponent and... in the center or one way ticket to the moon.

Why not just praise pedro? Why bring hazard down?

Good stuff, fairly competitive match, no injuries and a confidence booster ahead of the weekend.

Ramires was man of the match for me. I wouldn't grudge him a start at Newcastle after that performance.

Kenedy was another highlight, very lively performance, and composed when he needed to be for the goal and the assist.

Loftus Cheek too - looked commanding in the middle. Just needs to stay alert, can definitely be guilty of playing it too casually. I can see where Mourinho was coming from with his comments in the summer.

Even Falcao looked bright, the chances might've fell better for him, but his first touch was mostly sublime. I still suspect Remy will get the nod at Newcastle, though, and that's probably just about the right call. Not much between them.

Anyway, ramble over. The League Cup defence has started well, now let's push on and get a win at St James' for once!

Begovic - 5 - Tested once and made a mes of it, also made a mess of a few crosses he tried to punch

Baba - 5 - Poor game for me, lost the ball a lot and didn't look all that good in the tackle either. Couple of decent crosses though

Terry - 2 - Very poor, looked hopeless at times

Cahill - 5 - Not very good either

Ivanovic - 4 - Usual performance

Mikel - 7 - Decent

Ramires - 8 - Good game from him

Kenedy - 7 - Good goal

Loftus-Cheek - 7 - Grew into the game, good assist

Remy - 6 - Took his goal well, but otherwise was a bit poor

Falcao - 3 - Torres-like

That is ridiculously harsh. A 4-1 win and you gave over half of the team between average and poor ratings!! Terry was not a 2 out of 10, a 6 is more accurate.

Think we gave a good chance of been on Sky

Sponsors will be happy anyway, no big clashes early on.

Stoke's always a tricky trip, but I'd have been more concerned about it back when Pulis was in charge. They might be finishing higher in the league these days, but that was a team we struggled to crack, and they always raised it for us.
