Agreed on that one as well.

I was a little disappointed with Tomahawk when I saw them a few years ago. Even Patton was quite subdued. Then again, I didn't care much for the latest Tomahawk album and the venue was probably my least favourite club in the city. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't all that great either.

 

I loved the first two albums but the last two are nothing special. The passion and initial energy in this side project has clearly dried up, I'd guess that Patton lost his interest and that always shows.

I could never understand the fuss about Led Zeppelin either.

Actually, now that you mentioned it, I don't care much for Anonymous either. Although I have to give them credit for trying to do something a bit different. It's definitely not something you can say about Oddfellows, which was bland as... Well, it was so bland I can't find a mediocre enough word for it.

I saw this documentary a few years ago, which was called "It Might Get Loud", where the premise was that three guitarists were invited to talk about the electric guitar and the guitarists were Jimmy Page, Edge and Jack White from White Stripes. I wasn't too sure about Edge being involved, but he was actually pretty interesting. Far more interesting than I thought he'd be. I've always thought that everyone in U2 is as pretentious as Bono and Edge actually seemed like a pretty decent fella most of the time during the interviews in that documentary. I still don't think much of their music, but it was interesting to see.

I don't like Muse, who actually think they're a bit like Queen, rubbish and their ‘likeness’ to Queen (a great band for me), is manufactured cr*p. Coldplay get on my nerves, I've never dug the Pistols, with all due respect I prefer The Clash, the modern version of U2 is awful, I hate Bono, but I'll admit that I love their early stuff, up until War at least, after that not so much, but their early albums are quality for me. On a side note, I don't like what The Roots have become, but as that's hip hop I guess some wouldn't count it, despite the fact that they play real instruments, but anyway these days they're nothing like the hip hop band I loved.

I've always preferred The Clash to The Pistols. Although they have some decent tunes, The Pistols always seemed to be a more about selling a product and less about music. That was probably because of McLaren, but it seemed more like a fashion thing and just going for the shock value. If it had been first and foremost about music, they never would've got Sid Vicious in the band. John Lydon started doing much more interesting stuff after The Pistols called it quits.

They are tolerable for 3-4 minutes. Thing is, you heard one track from them and you heard them all.

I love the pistols, but I completely agree that they were manufactured for the shock value - Punk's Boy Band.  The way they deteriorated was actually rather sad to see, and ultimately the one erson that bought into all the bullsh*t was the person that paid the ultimate price.

 

I liked some of PIL, and their session on John Peel is astonishingly good.

 

Lydon's later sell out was pretty dreadful.  I guess your idols will always disappoint you?

 

The Clash - perhaps after the fact - claimed that they were never a Punk band, and I can see that.  But I also think they were a little up their own arses at times.  I still rate them as an infinitely better band than the Pistols.  The Pistols were just great fun.  

 

The Ramones are another band that I think aren't really "that" great.  But you have to admire their longevity, their grueling touring, and their continued influence

 

 

Anyway...bands I don't like have pretty much been covered.  I was particularly disappointed with the direction that Coldplay and Kings of Leon went in recent memory.

Interesting reading about the Smiths as I used to absolutely not "get" them.  I bought The Queen Is Dead, and then Meat is Murder and I have to admit that I really came round to them.

If anyone is upset by that, I'd love to know what "must have" album of theirs should I try first.

I'm a fan of The Smiths myself, I dare say you've got their best two albums.

Regarding Pixies, I'd recommend giving the album Doolittle a listen as an introduction to them even if their best song Where Is My Mind? isn't on there.

Oasis, I just don't get it there music is so dour
