If JT leaves ( I hope he doesn't) then We definitely need to recruit a new captain from somewhere who has experience of being a captain at a top level club.

IMHO , there is absolutely no one that is already in our club, who has the credentials to be able to succeed JT and have the full backing of everyone including the fans.

And that is the sad truth of the matter. The club lacks direction and leadership and that is happening on the pitch now as well. The short-term future of this club is very bleak indeed.

Well if that is the case, thank God you were not around picking the captain on Dec 5th 2000 when young teenager John Terry got the nod just 2 days before his 20th birthday, and with less than a dozen first team starts under his belt, he definitely wasn't experienced.

Twins often enjoy a certain simpatico.

Jesus get a grip.

Just what we need the day before a significant game, hell's teeth.

Come on you Blues.

I totally understand that response mate but it's depressing to see the things that you identify with being let go and not replaced with anything substantial. For years you'd look at that pitch and you'd see JT or Lamps, or look to the dugout and see Jose and they would be like comfort blankets.

Now the only constant will be Roman or Emenalo and they are not something I (and I know this is something a few other supporters feel) really identify with. Obviously not everyone will be in that boat and have high hopes for the future and to them the pessimism will be laughable and I can respect that.

I just with I shared it.

You're depressing and intent on spreading it, we get enough from elsewhere thanks.

Have always been Gary Cahill's harshest critics (not world class etc etc), but conversely I think he may be a good captain. If JT does leave then Cahill's future at the club is all but certain so why not.

It's a toss up between Cahill and Azpi for me, but given Brano is currently vice captain it makes sense if he becomes the next captain.

Though ultimately in the absence of a JT, Ballack, Drogba, Lamps I don't think it really matters much who is captain.

Regardless hopefully JT will reverse his decision to leave.

Unfortunately it might be Brana.....for steadiness and respect I guess it will be Cahill.......I can't see many of the others who have been nominated being at the club next season; and those that are likely to remain - Tibo, Willian, Dave aren't leaders IMO.  Fab might be if he hangs around but it has to be someone who is going to play every week.

But who knows what players will be brought in...perhaps one of those might be given the armband.

I hoped for years that Chalobah will be ready to play for us regularly by the time JT retires. He was a fantastic captain at every youth level he played in by all accounts.

Not an easy one to answer, what with the uncertain predicament of some/most of the players.

Having thought about it: I went for Azpi! Always gives 100%, a real professional on and off the pitch and can lead the team from the back!

Quote from Hiddink:

“That’s why I’m happy players like Fàbregas are doing their job, so it’s good to see that some players step up, not just in their personal performance but also organising tactically,” Hiddink said. “With Ivanovic, he’s not a big shouter but he does deliver the short commands. As a manager, I want what we do in training and team meetings to be executed by my key players. He helps that but he’s not alone. César Azpilicueta does a lot also in the [on-field] coaching. Diego, in his own way, does a lot of coaching. I like Oscar, Willian … these guys who are gifted by nature but also take command in this team.”

Changed my mind on this one completely. Make it Cesc.

Don't care that he's ex-Arsenal and Barca, the guy has carried the team recently and if Conte comes in then I'd build the team around Fabregas and make him captain as well. He's seeing the pitch better than ever and it's not like he had too much pace to lose so put energetic players around him and let him lead the team on it and off it.

  • 2 months later...

Any manager that comes in and give Zouma the captain band has already lost the dressing without playing a match.

Choke on this.............
