August 30, 20178 yr Conte might leave Chelsea earlier than I thought we would. He had a fallout with the board just now.
August 31, 20178 yr Have to say the board doesn't want to back Conte or they don't know how. The window was open for 2 months. Nothing stopping us from buying 3 players today in theory but it is highly unlikely. Usually things have an explanation and I really would love to hear why we haven't been able to buy additions the coach wants.
August 31, 20178 yr 18 outfield players is a minimum to fight on all 4 fronts. We current have 16 players (Morata, Michy; Hazard, Pedro, Willian, Musonda; Kante, Cesc, Baka; Moses, Alonso, GC, DL, Rudi, Azpi, Andreas). We can include Baba too, but we definitely need a CM back up.
August 31, 20178 yr The need of the hour is to get Llorente, Drinkwater and Telles/Pereira but the board is dicking around with Athletico, Barkely and probably even Mahrez. All unnecessary things. Cant think of one good reason for Conte to not walk away right now. Edited August 31, 20178 yr by Orpington_Blue

August 31, 20178 yr he will go , the board have totally messed up ,weve bought a keeper to replace a keeper ,Rudiger and Christenson to replace Ake and Zouma ,Baka to replace Matic and Morata to replace Costa. liverpoool , Man U & Man City have all improve their first team and squad . Every day for over 6 weeks all we hear is Chelsea are going to sign player a, b, c or d and nothing happens we are down to the last few hours and we havent signed a soul so i fully expect come jan when we are struggling with the squad size to compete on 4 fronts Conte will have gone and the board will panic buy again.
August 31, 20178 yr If he walks he goes as a loved manager who gave his all for the club with the club doing well to not give him the best tool's to his job
August 31, 20178 yr Unlike Jose, who the board did the same thing to. Edited August 31, 20178 yr by Stim
August 31, 20178 yr Why would Conte go? I'm presuming that it's his decision that sent AOC to Liverpool because the guy didn't want to play as a wing back.
August 31, 20178 yr Pretty sad that we haven't backed Conte. I want to see him in a structure like City where he gets all the players he wants. He will be unstoppable.
August 31, 20178 yr I think following Conte seeing Luiz's performance in midfield he realises that we may not need another CM, I think he expected to loan out Christensen and has been surprised by his ability. A number of our CBs can play RWB in an emergency though not sure about LWB unless he would consider Azpi there. This might be why he won't panic if we do not strengthen though if this should be the case I would expect the board to say they will go all out in January to plug any gaps that do develop.

If the Board didn't plug the gaps during the summer transfer window, why should they bother in January? They know what the gaps are. The manager reminds them all the time. Yet they have done nothing about it unless Zappacosta joins and that's only one gap that is covered. The board's primary goal is to have a very Low net spend. It's a business for them and Conte and the fans be damned for all they care.

I agree it is a business yet I still think Abramovich wants us to win, of course they may think they know better than the manager and we all know they have done that before!

Herein lies the Board's and perhaps Roman's delusional intentions - don't expect the club to be a serial winner if they don't invest in sufficient quality players. Conte may be a top quality coach who can get the best out of players, even those with limited technical ability like Moses but let's not fool ourselves by expecting him to continue winning trophies with a very small squad and a lack of top class players jostling for places. This will hit the club even harder when Hazard leaves and I expect he will want out if the club refuses to put their money where their mouth is. The simplistic way is to sack Conte and replace him with yet another manager but eventually there will be a shortage of good managers who will join the club. Who would want to risk being fired when the expectations are to win the league and challenge for the CL while even Huddersfield Town is outspending you in the net transfer table? Best thing for the Board and Roman to do is to tone down their expectations to be in line with their player investment. That way, all the fans know what the outcome will be and this reduces friction between the manager, board and the fans.

I see where you are coming from yet the good thing is a lot of our young talent and current squad surplus to requirement is out on loan so can be brought back if needed under a new manager.

That doesn't address the board's need for immediate success. In fact, it aggravates the already weak squad in terms of quality as the ones called back are odd inexperienced youth players and those who surplus to requirements. Eventually, it will catch up with you especially when top coaches like Conte leaves and a less capable one replaces him which is no surprise as any ambitious coach would want proper backing by their boards and why join a club that has a massive mismatch between what it wants and how much it is willing to invest. Man Utd of recent years is a perfect example of this - Alex Ferguson dragged an Aging and a bunch of average players like Tom Cleverley to the title, got them to perform beyond their normal abilities and when he left, the entire structure collapsed leading to their Board having to sanction close to half a billion pounds in player investment under three separate managers.
August 31, 20178 yr TBH currently I think they are doing alright, we don't have a quality second striker so an injury to Morata would be a blow and not much quality cover at LWB. I think we will win the league this season and Conte will then walk as he wants the CL and an expensive team to try and get it. Not all our players are that old Luiz, Cahill, Pedro, Willian the others all have a few years.
August 31, 20178 yr I think this is the club's direction now. As a Business CFC has gone into profitability returns for the owner's investment. It is now time to build the other guaranteed structure for the cash flow to continue which is the stadium. The club will not sack managers again short of a disastrous season like Jose's last (even then it took so long as well as embarrassing outbursts from Jose). They know they aren't giving the manager the support he wants and I don't think Roman is too bothered with titles at the moment. He has won them all after all. My only issue is they should engage with the fan base to advise of a the club's direction.

Not many good managers that will want to come to Chelsea if we don't have the money. If this goes on, we will slip down to being the 6th-7th biggest team in England and the marketing/match day/commercial revenues will fall leading to fall in valuation. Standing still is not an option here.
