Romelu Lukaku

Featured Replies

He is not worth that sort of money. He isn't good enough to be the main man for a team with aspirations to win the CL.

It will be slightly embarrassing to fork out big money for a player we sold for a lot less just a few years ago.

I do not want him back at Chelsea.

Tell that to those fools over at Old Trafford. Paying well over the odds for a bang-average footballer.

I am not a fan of Lukaku, if we buy him to lead our attack and offload Costa i don't know what to say about our ambition and targets next season. I can't see us in top 4 with Lukaku leading the line, sorry.

well there's the chance lukaku doesn't actually get injured or suspended every 3-4 games.

It depends If Hazard can take a return to form really, we have Traore and Batshuayi I think Bats looks the more capable of the two If we lose Costa we really probably do need a better striker than Lukaku say even If we got Morata I still wouldn't be 100% confident with that rather we'd try our luck with a very ambitious attempt to get Griezmann in part exchange for Costa or for us to try our luck with Lacazette and hope he turns out good.

Word is we've just bid £67m

Christ almighty

Big money for a player that won't actually improve the team.

Would like to see that level of investment in the defence which is in dire need of improvement.

Pogba?

Who else?

I don't want Lukaku back either. If we buy him and don't sort out our defence I'll be livid. I have a feeling that Conte thinks he can work a little magic with the defenders we already have, and suddenly will start challenging for titles again. Won't happen.

In this transfer window, you almost have to disregard the 'value for money' aspect of the transfer fee; if we are to sign any of the targets we seem to have identified, we are going to be paying  £50M+ for them, and in old money, none of them are worth that.

But this is a transfer window where Pogba is worth £100M+, Stones is worth £50M+, Koulibaly is worth £38M etc etc....

Basically, the goal posts have moved , what may have cost £30M 2 years ago is now going to cost you £50M, that is the reality.

So, no, Lukaku is never a £50M+ player for me, but you could make a similar argument for almost every signing this window, with the exception of Kante which would have to be the exception to the rule.

So transfer fee aside, would bringing Lukaku back be a good thing?

Initially, I struggle to get past the rather embarrassing element to this transfer in that we sold him just 2 seasons ago and now have done a full 180 degree U-turn and decide we will break our transfer record to get him back. It's just a mess of a situation in that respect, but just like when we bought Matic, and just like United with Pogba, it shouldn't necessarily stop us pursuing him if we truly feel we made a mistake and he is now somehow everything we thought he wasn't 2 years ago.... but it is rather embarrassing, there is no two ways about that for me.

As I have said before, if he was coming in to replace Remy, and we started the season with Costa, Lukaku, Michy & Traore, then you really wouldn't see any complaints from me. That would be some serious strength in depth that we haven't seen up front for some years. In fact, I would say that is pretty mouthwatering. Perhaps what a team striving to win the league should have in it's attacking arsenal.

But, realistically, I get the feeling it will be Costa that goes, meaning a strike force of Lukaku, Michy, Remy & Traore. This is where the question marks start to appear, quite simply, is he good enough to be our main man up top? Is he comparable to the likes of Aguero, Ibrahimovic, or even Kane?

Lukaku is a decent striker for me, has his pros and cons, but I don't think he is ever going to be one of the very best, so I would be wary of blowing our transfer budget for a striker who my head is telling me is good, but probably not quite good enough.

I am desperate for Conte to be able to shape a team as he wants, so if this is his man, and he truly thinks this is the guy who suits his system and style of play, then I would back it, but I do struggle to believe that we would have a strike force rivalling the best in Europe which surely has to be the aim.

You noticed a lit of clubs do that? Seem to buy players in positions they don't really need instead of correcting the real issues. I think it happens more and more these days.

Pogba and bang average is a bit silly tbh.

He's a fantastic midfielder

Everton dont really have to sell., if Lukaku really wants to leave "that" much as reported, we will soon find out.  As I expect even £65m to be rejected, then it is either transfer request time or just get on with it until next summer at least.

Funny the Evertonians on twitter and whatever claiming we were a nothing club before Abramovich. Only in the CL few yrs before he came, and finished above Everton every single season bar 1 since EPL inception (granted footy existed before then)

He may be a good midfielder but there are plenty of guys out there that are a better box to box midfielder than him.

He will cost 100-112 million pound to bring him in smashing the transfer record and Pogba isn't even a proper game changing type of player!

Get it done.

25 goals a season guaranteed for the next 7-8 years.Take 30 million odd for Costa and I think it's good business.

That would be goalkeeper, midfield and attack sorted.A centre half to partner Kurt and a decent left back and it's happy days.

Would much rather just sticking to what we have in Traore, Batshuayi and Costa until something more realistic appears I don't want us to hand 70-80 million to some pathetic wheeling dealing club like Everton.

With 70-80 mil we could buy Koulibaly, J.Hector and Maksimovic, removing our defensive problems altogheter.

Or we could try and do our best to bring Andreas Christensen back early, can't buy too many defensive options gotta remember we do have Zouma who will likely be fit maybe later on in 2016.

If we get a CB I'd like it to be a veteran.

yeah the fee for lukaku is crazy, and that money should be spent on defence, then if we sell costa, don't sell him for less than £50 million. we don't know entirely how much we have to spend on transfers, but so far we haven't spent much. maybe we are looking at selling a couple players? maybe we're looking at a central midfielder to replace another? I would definitely like to see us bring in a couple of defenders though.

It would give us an option to play 3-5-2, if Zouma comes back strong, just move a versatile J.Hector up as a wingback. Next year we can bring Christensen back after Terry, Cahill and Ivanovic are gone.

Why not make a move for Lacazette?.

That's exactly what I want to happen If we don't have the balls to try and get Griezmann why not Lacazette?

I'm sure Laca and Batshuayi/Traore could perhaps link up well.

I would like to see more of Hazard and Batshuayi as our two strikers, both linked up well against Real Madrid, hopefully Conte plays them togheter against Milan as well.
