You seriously think a manager in pre season who is planning the fitness plans, training sessions, transfers, coaching etc has decided the club shouldnt wish a player happy birthday on twitter? Seriously, you believe this? Dear lord.

Because the seasons a few weeks away and as crazy as it sounds I'm sure Jose will be more concerned with players coming in, tactics, training and so on than going up to the IT department to tell Charles and Stevie not to wish a player happy birthday on their Twitter.

That's just a hunch though......

It is odd; the only thing which could count against him is that he is 32 in a couple of weeks, and (assuming they sell Stones) they might end up having to replace both their starting centre-backs (Jagielka is 34 this month) within a few years. Also I can't imagine his wages are especially high.

 

That said, he doesn't really have any particular history of injuries, so there's no reason he couldn't continue for another few seasons at the top level. I also think he is an excellent defender and a very good player who would immediately strengthen Everton's defence. If they can sign Williams for a reasonably low price it would be an excellent deal.

 

If they can add Williams to the already completed acquisitions of Koeman and Gueye, while still keeping Lukaku (the risk of which would presumably be offset by the money they get from Man City for Stones), Everton will have very quietly had an excellent transfer window, having addressed many of their key weaknesses (and doing so cheaply). I wouldn't be surprised if they challenged for the Europa League spots.
