Absolute scumbag, one of the highest paid sportspeople in the world and didn't pay tax in a country going through extreme economic difficulty.

Not really, taxation is theft. There is nothing morally wrong with defending yourself from theft.

Agreed, I was getting bored of free healthcare and education.

And police, and cleaning....

Joke really, were it me I'd have gotten the full five but Lionel Messi is a rich famous footballer so he isn't going to is he? Sickening

Yup you or me would get the full whack but they will never jail a celebrity.

If you did the same thing in Spain, you wouldn't go to jail either. You probably wouldn't even be prosecuted because the amount involved would be too little for them to spend public resources on.

To be legally eligible for a long jail sentence, there needs to be a lot of money involved. Which means that the person is rich. Which means that they have more money to hand over.

In Spain pretty much no one goes to jail for tax fraud because they more or less let you buy your way out by imposing heavy fine in addition to paying the owed taxes, in exchange for the promise of a sentence under 24 months (i.e. no jail time). The government gets revenue and avoids the costs involved with keeping someone in prison.

Price Waterhouse Cooper used company money to pay for its employees not to go to jail. None of those employees were Messi level rich, and none of them were famous.

This practice has been accused of being a cash grab for the government, and there's some truth to that as the additional fines involved can be arbitrarily set based on how much money the person can afford to pay.

Victor Valdes going to Middlesbrough pending medical. Free agent. Two year contract which he should be able to see out at age 34. It's a good signing for them if it doesn't involve major wages. He was most recently on £60,000 a week. I'm sure he could get more in China, so this suggests that he cares more about playing at a high level than about money. I'm pleased for him after the atrocious treatment he got from van Gaal.

Middlesbrough were also linked with Robin van Persie, but that appears not to be the case. He's also been linked with West Ham which sounds much more plausible to me. They could get him for a pretty low amount (Fenerbahce paid £4 million), but his wage demands will probably be really high.

Di Marzio reporting that United and Pogba have agreed terms and that they are working on a deal with Juventus at the moment. Price well over 100 million euros.

They need to stop disgusting clubs like city and chelsea from buying the league

Would be horrible though..

What a team they would have. You would have to assume only City and Guardiola could compete with them then in my view. If they buy a few top players themselves, like Bonucci who they are willing to pay close to 50 million pounds for apparantly.

A centre back and maybe another wide player and United would probably be favourites for the title.

City will probably still bring in 2/3 top class players so between them so far.

Be very difficult for the others to compete with that especially when they have world class managers leading them.

He's a great player but for 100 million you want some who's really effective in every game you play. Bale has been worth the money, Ronaldo has been worth the money but Pogba just doesn't do enough for me to warrant that price tag.

I am sure he will develop and become the best midfielder in the league. Imagine what Lampard and Gerrard would be worth during this era of transfer fees. Both of them more effective players than Pogba in my opinion but hopefully he fulfils his potential. Just not against us.

I think with Ronaldo he was more or less the finished package when he went to Real.

Bale would be a good example but as we know money in the game has shot right up since his move and guys like Sterling are moving for £50 million quid.

They are buying a player with the best part of a decade at the top level in him who is one of the best midfielders in Europe as it is today.

It's a very steep price but they have the means that spending that doesn't really dent them in any way shape or form so why bother about the price tag? (them). United can afford deals like this so if it comes off It's a great transfer IMO.

Yeah don't get me wrong, if we got him for 100m I wouldn't say no. He has superstar written all over him but I honestly see him on the same level as someone like Kevin De Bruyne in terms of quality and I think the big difference is Pogba is extremely marketable.

Wanyama does have the feeling of cheap about him, but whether he offers enough going forward is the question for me. Dier is the defensive cover, the destroyer, and Mousa was the carrier moving forward.

Dier irreplaceable and alongside Dier, Wanyama can't do the same job as Mousa.

Yeah like someone said, for £100m you want a player like Bale or Ronaldo. Still, he's the type of player that United need in their midfield and have been lacking for a few years. A £100m though...

Jose will just probbarly turn him into a defensive midfielder anyway.

I really hope that Man U spend that much on a player they let go on a free only a few years ago.

Yeah, imagine if Romeu or someone became the new Seedorf and we decided we were going to sign him back for stupid money. The forum would bust its collective nut.
