"FC Barcelona has set up a campaign in support of Leo Messi following the sentence issued this week against the Argentinian and his father.

Using the hashtag #WeAreAllLeoMessi while posting a photo or message with both hands open, the campaign is encouraging all Barça fans to express their sympathy for the greatest footballer in the world by voicing their unconditional support on social networks.

By making it clear that #WeAreAllMessi, we want Leo to know that he is not alone. All members, supporters clubs, fans, athletes, media and everyone else are invited to participate."

Unfrickinbelievable.....they don't live in the real world.

That is hilariously out of touch with the real world. Maybe they can pass a hat around the camp nou so everyone can chip in to pay his fine

If they claim to be Leo Messis in this regard then I say Spanish tax authorities should ivestigate everyone using that hashtag... :139:

Jackson Martinez already wants to leave China.

Won't be the last.

The money chasing is one thing but playing a substantially lower standard of football week in, week out must be a bit soul sapping for players who still have a few good years left.

Some players will content themselves with the better pay then they'll get elsewhere but I suspect others will want more job satisfaction and will regret moving.

That is so scouse.

When Ramires scored his fort goal for that Chinese team I genuinely felt embarrassed for him.

Looked like he was playing down the local park.

If that's what they want to do then fair play money wise as it will set them for life but from a personal professional aspect it's a waste of a talent.

Someone explain to me how City are free to go out and spend a ton of money on players, meanwhile we're holding back on our finances? If FFP is still in force, how are we hearing city will buy stones for 50 million, bonucci for around the same, and other players too without actually selling anyone? It's kind of bugging me we're having to tighten up on our funds while everyone else freely goes about their business paying no mind to that small issue of financial fair play.

Here's how I understand it, which may be incorrect.

It's certainly not "everyone else" ignoring financial fair play, thankfully. Sunderland, for example, are being extremely careful about spending. And say what you will about Wenger, he spends very carefully.

The FFP rules are complicated, and they've been changing to be less stringent to make it easier to spend like Manchester City. Among the changes was to allow more injection of owner money.

Two clubs have been fined for violating FFP, Manchester City and PSG. Their punishment was to pay a fine that got decreased somehow to something like £16 million from 49 million originally. Clubs can supposedly be fined with things like deducting points, but you know that will never happen.

So two significant reasons are that their owners are willing to inject endless money (it's no coincidence that PSG is also owned by sheiks), and they would rather pay the fine for violating FFP than spend less because they think that the benefits of overspending outweigh the fine.

There are surely other reasons that are more complicated.

Oh, and don't forget that UEFA can always be convinced to waive rules for the right price.

The good thing for us is that both Mourinho and Guardiola both can't win the league, resulting in one of them being labelled a failure. With such attention on them, we can build ourselves back up under less scrutiny than we've had before and let them take the brunt of the publicity war.

How about a scenario whereby WE win the league, and then they can both be failures ... :)

It is frustrating how we seem to have become cautious and restrained in the transfer market. I hope we don't become like Arsenal and decide on value than quality.

Barcelona's Messi campaign has to be the most tone deaf PR effort since the Suarez-Evra shirt debacle.

Did they not get Etihad to pay well and above market value for a sponsorship deal involving the stadium/academy?

They also attracted 400 million from a Chinese consortium for a 13% stake in the club, which values them at over 3 billion pounds.

From the Swiss Ramble:

The accounting for player trading is horribly technical, but it is important to grasp how it works to really understand a football club’s accounts. The fundamental point is that when a club purchases a player the costs are spread over a few years, but any profit made from selling players is immediately booked to the accounts, which helps explain why clubs like City can spend so much and still meet UEFA’s Financial Fair Play targets.

As a result of all this accounting smoke and mirrors, clubs often look at EBITDA (Earnings Before Interest, Depreciation and Amortisation) for a better idea of underlying profitability. In City’s case this metric clearly shows their improvement, as it has steadily risen from a negative £71 million in 2011 to an impressive £83 million in 2015.

The really prominent figure is the £113 million that City have included for contingent liabilities (up from £42 million in 2012), which is for “additional transfer fees, signing-on fees and loyalty bonuses… that will become payable upon the achievement of certain conditions contained within player and transfer contracts”, i.e. number of appearances, success on the pitch, etc. To place this enormous sum into perspective, contingent liabilities at other leading clubs are significantly smaller: United £26 million, Arsenal £9 million and Chelsea £3 million.

tbh, i'm no financial expert, but things seem to start getting a little fishy when you read what people say regarding these kind of deals. as for ourselves, roman is supposedly worth "only" 6 billion now, but I am sure he's worth more than that, including his assets and possibly hidden finances. the russians, chinese and arabs are all a bit enigmatic with their fortunes in my opinion.

even in government you hear about putin earning a salary of 100,000 per year as president of russia, yet he lives like a billionaire, and in fact by some experts he's actually worth over 40 billion. i certainly don't believe for a second roman's funds are that low, but still quite frustrating for us when we seem to have tightened the belt while others are out there spending like it's open season.

Yeah i don't get the whole set up tbh. i am pretty positive that the whole ffp was relaxed due to psg's misfortune in europe. it is kind of odd how as soon as psg (a french club) struggled in europe, the rules were relaxed. after all uefa have always seemed fairly french-centric.

Pogba to United seems to be gathering pace more and more!

I'm not going to lie, I'd be incredibly jealous if they got him.

We're good at swooping in when deals are being done for other teams, come on Roman... Pleaseeeeeeee

I am looking forward to see how ruben loftus develops under conte tbh. i would like to see kasey palmer integrated into the first team too. we would certainly save a ton of money than paying out for pogba.

I'm personally glad we're being more careful about spending. Spending at top tier European football has gotten more out of control than I thought possible. I thought that it would hit a peak and then people would come to their senses, but it keeps getting more and more ridiculous with no end in sight.

This type of spending, and make no mistake we're still one of the biggest culprits, is ruining football. I could write a whole novel about this, but I think it would be preaching to the choir.

It would make me prouder to finish 2nd or even 7th with a squad full of academy graduates than to use our academy as a loan machine to fund large purchases.

I see Man City are reverting to their traditional club badge this season. Good job, farewell to the meaningless stars, the eagle thing and the latin motto.

Totally agree, absolutely love the new City logo

Kante's odds to join Real Madrid have dropped from 9/1 to 2/1 in the last hour, It's almost like Perez thought, Let me stop him from crying after tonight's defeat by telling him he's joining us. Kante for £25/30 million or Pogba for £105 million?

Real Madrid's Lucas Silva has retired from football at 23 because of heart problems:

http://www.newstalk.com/Real-Madrid-midfielder-Lucas-Silva-forced-to-retire-from-football-with-heart-problems

How sad! That must be really tough for him to know that his career is over before it really took off.

The upside is that he won't suffer the same fate as players who have collapsed and died in the middle of the game, which would have been a real risk if it wasn't detected.

^ Yeah, it must be very upsetting. I'm not sure he would have made it at Madrid but it's still very sad that he's had his career stolen from him.

I hope he manages to find himself another niche in the game (if he so pleases), à la what we had planned with Sam Hutchinson before his return.

I've got something that will cheer you up Bobby, It turns out he isn't retiring and intends to continue playing as this was all a big mix up.  :laugh2:

Fingers crossed it will all work out for him.
