Can Conte lead us to top 4 finish?

You're struggling to see what my point is? We finished 10th we got shagged by the dippers and Arsenal in a bad way, 3 managers have got fuxk all out these lot since we won the title and even that year we were sh*t for the second half of the season, this group is stake needs freshened up, we need JT's replacement we need a LB who is up to standards not just a fill in, we need someone who can work well in the middle with kante consistently and a winger that brings more threat than Pedro/Willian if we would like to stay an elite club, if we don't get top 4 this year our problems will continue as it will be hard to attract players, we believed conte could get top 4 with this squad me included but again they have let their heads drop and being a sh*t hull side hasn't fixed the underlying issues, let's hope that the new system works however conte met Roman and word is he was discussing doing exactly what I have called for so what point don't you get? Let me simplify the goal is to win football games our current team have shown they have not been able to do that very well for a year and a half we have blamed the manager and fired him got a second still sh*t got a third still sh*t which is indicative tags we now have to look at the players something most of us have been doing for a long time. We are an elite club spoiled or not we are playing elite club wages they need to play or they need to move on, might be good individually but as a group it isn't working under 3 managers now, not much mystery in that mate.

I love how myths are created by people just repeating somthing enough times - i know a whole lot has changed in the last month and you are not the only one to say this DA but this whole we where sh*t in the second half of the season thing is simply not true. Going in to the new year we where level on points with city, they had erradicated our gap and arsenal i believe where not to far behind, with united a good run of form as well (Not sure if anyone remembers the JPEG going around with the grim reaper and doors of teams they had beaten, and then a chelsea fan edited it to show a lion jumping out of the chels door and eating said grim reaper. We won the title with 4 games to go. On the numbers alone one can not say we where sh!t. Pragmatic for sure but not sh*t.

For the group of players we had we underperformed and Mou's game management got us over the line, we were sh*t but so were the other top teams round us and we got the job done.

Not a single Chelsea fan bar you will say we performed well in the second half of that season, however you waited over a month to bring this up when we are all on a high from the way the new system is working so now it's time for team loyalty?

Give it a rest, didn't say a peep after we got demolished by Liverpool when I wrote this did you? What a perfect time to come up with this bollox!

Our players have been dispicable at times and the way they are performing now emphasizes that and I maintain what I said to bring new blood in January to build on this success because as good as we know they can be the fear is always there that a rough patch will mean heads drop and down tools, and all of us have that in the back of our heads.

No one ever doubted their talent we knew their talent hence more frustrating, and "sh*t" is relative so let me help you get what I mean in this context: we were performing sh*t for the level of talent and potential in the team, hence the same players can produce what's been called the best performance in PL history, and it's as good as I ever remember Chelsea playing so when that group put out underwhelming draws and 1-0's walking round the box no penetration moving the ball slow its sh*t!

If we where sh!t but every other team was worse, you are essentially saying every team in the league was rubbish? Do you not think you should probably take a macro look at it then. It tells me more about the teams in the league, the competitiveness of the league, they style of play adopted by most teams, the result of the prem not having a Christmas break. Or is it easier just to say all 20 teams in the second half of the season where rubbish?

As for not a peep, i was kinf od a bit busy around the time of the liverpool game. And i only read this today. If you think this is bolox look back through my posts, it's not a secrate as to why i didn't have the time to read every thread in depth.

Also if you read any of my post's you would see that I'm pretty patient, i have players I don't rate like everyone, but by an large I'm by no means expecting league victory year after year.

We weren't playing with anything like the fluency of the first half of the season, but then that is a consequence of a lack of rotation and tiredness.

But we were still good (yes, relative to the quality available ) . And we were so fluent and top of the league in partial consequence of that same lack of rotation.

Most titles require the winners to dig in and fight and imo that is the measure of how 'well' the team plays (when evaluating a full season) rather than spanking a bottom five side when the sun is out.

For some people (not necessarily you don antonio) mourinho having left isn't enough - they have to rewrite or mitigate anything that he achieved at Chelsea such is their level of antipathy for re manager responsible for 3/5 titles in 110 years.

For the life of me I don't understand why. He's gone and he won't be back so why is it still something to discuss?

Ironically they will also brand anyone who defends anything he did as obsessed with him.

The past 6 months have proved them right in saying he was crap from the start

But the people who self admittedly hate the man bring him up far more than anyone else.

I'm just glad our players aren't actually the one hit wonder overrated duds they were made out to be last season

I appreciate you wrote not necessarily me in what you said but to clarify I was a huge Mou proponent, I'll never forget what he did for us, now in hindsight it's refreshing not to have negativity but not only don't I belittle the achievements but I've not criticized him.

I was referring to player mentalities blaming them not the coach after the dippers game, current form aside they have shown mental frailty and some maybe even decent.

I was for clearing out the spine of the team at that point it looked like they were poor under 3 managers but adding 4 new players to the first team from last season and finding a better system and roles for our players is working amazingly well and I'm thrilled.

I still beleive however in getting new blood in Jan  to prevent any relaps and to build on our current form instead of the same mistakes after the title winning season.

The criticism towards me was for saying we were sh*t (I usually say stale but sh*t was picked up on so I'll stick with it) from the second half of the title winning season onwards and I maintain that, I was talking about our style of football and our performances, again it's relative, we won we weren't terrible, we showed game managment, but nothing like the first half abd not good football for a club of our capabilities, also our title rivals of which at that point only city and Arsenal were close didn't have good second halfs either, we all underperformed, not sure how it moved on from that.

The problem with getting new players in mid way through the season is you need to get the right players in. You don't wanna disrupt momentum for one and you don't wanna disrupt the dressing room in the wrong way. I'm not saying it's rocket science but it's tricky.

Sometimes it works out very nicely!

what i'm seriously hoping is after the international break every one of our rivals' form diminishes while ours is maintained and gets better, then by the new year we have a decent gap among the following teams while we're sat at 1st place :JC_doubleup:

dreams can happen!

I honestly thought at the time we were just playing that way to get over the line, little did i know it was early signs of a massive full blown crisis. I thought the summer with a rest and a few accusitions we will be close to the first half 14/15 again, how wrong i was. Someone on the fans channel summed it up, It's one thing getting these attacking players to play restricted cautious football when the titles in touching distance, Its another doing so from day dot in pre season.

Of course and that's the thing it can also be a great thing. Guess we'll have to see who we may bring in and how they may fit.

Torres is the only January mistake that I can think off the top of my head.

We've had some pointless squad fillers recently - Jarosik, Maniche and Matic the first time around come to mind - but most of our January targets over the last 15 years have gone on to be excellent signings,  Scott Parker, Ivanovic, Cahill and Matic v2.0

Absolutely Conte can lead us to the top 4 barring injuries. I love the change in formation and the positive effect it has had on us. Now injuries to Costa, Hazard and Moses at the same time and I think it gets tougher. There are 6 very good teams fighting for 4 spots.

I think we are in great chance to get into the top 4, after the Arsenal game most people would settle for a top 6 finish. With No cup match until next year, Conte will be able to play best 11 week in week out. We are playing good football too, much like the first part of the title winning season under Jose. It's not just the Hazard/Costa/Kante playing at their best, but also the resurgence of Moses/Matic/Pedro. We aren't even worried about JT, Cesc, Willian not getting game time.

Liverpool and City are they only teams i can see being up there challenging with us later on in the season. Tottenham don't have the killer edge and without Sanchez Arsenal are nothing to worry about until their usual late push at the end of the season. Liverpool concede for fun and Pep seems he hasn't understood the prem yet but in time will be class. Don't see why we can't win the league tbh.

Dunno about that, we've had a fair bit of sh*te come in in january recently, Cuadrado and Salah come to mind for me, of course Matic, Gaz, David Luiz V1 and Ivanovic far outweigh that

Ivanovic? Are you having a laugh? He's been an amazing player for us only recently he's been poor.

I think he's saying that Ivanovic was a good signing mate.

Chelsea are built to win now. Not for development of whatever. Liverpool are surprisingly contending but Manchester City are just the same with us. So are United.
