The last tine we won the league we ended the following season 10th. This time we won the league we lost a cup final to a very weak Arsenal without much of a fight? Not meltdown time by any means but it is slightly concerning. FA Cup is always a toss up.
May 27, 20179 yr So hazard went missing again in a big game? That is what I am hearing here. We want to put him on a reported 300k a week why? Looks like a new rwb just became a bigger priority.

Shame about today, but in some of the biggest wins over our rivals he has been the best player on the pitch.
May 27, 20179 yr I would like to see us move Matic on, Costa too if we can secure a quality striker - we need to keep Cesc, Hazard and Alonso If we want to win the double we need to educate our players about what the FA Cup means and how important it is in England. I think though if we are sitting a week away from a Champions League final this time next year, today will be long forgotten.
May 27, 20179 yr As good as Arsenal were we seemed unable to react to being closed down, it's happened against Liverpool, Spurs and United. As good as Arsenal were we seemed unable to react to being closed down, it's happened against Liverpool, Spurs and United. To me you need to use the long ball to pin back their defenders and defensive midfielders. We couldn’t do that with just Costa up front and so we never took advantage of their weak defensive partnership. What annoys me is this has happened before does Conte not have a plan B to communicate with his players on the pitch when he sees this is happening? Conte got it wrong with his subs, Costa should never have come off though no problem with Willian coming on. Today Wenger got it right though the ref certainly assisted them on at least two occasions.

Not meltdown time by any means but it is slightly concerning. There are question marks about the mentality of the group of players, time will tell if this is so. I do feel though, we'd had too many celebrations leading upto the final. The huge relief on having achieved the title at West Brom which was understandable , we then had the party after the Watford win and a further celebration after the last match of the season coupled with the JT farewell...our intensity and match mentality had dropped a notch. This happens to normal people in their own work but at professional levels the level down can make all the difference. It was disappointing but this was always my fear leading into this match.
May 27, 20179 yr How did these goonerz got to this Final .. by beating Sutton FC & Preston North-End.. It is not looking good as they lost 10/2 to Byern..wake up Emanelo
May 27, 20179 yr Oh well, you can't win 'em all. Good game really and the Arsenal goal didn't worry me too much as we were playing so badly that I thought it would work as a wake up call, and it did to an extent. Most of it has been said, energy levels, intensity, hunger - all missing for large parts of the match.I'll give full credit to Cahill and Costa, who showed leadership and I was delighted when Costa got a goal. Hazard, when not on form, looks a very ordinary player, and that he was today.I'm probably the only one who thought Moses slipped but it's probably those blue-tinted glasses which improve the overall spectacle!Championes and next season to look forward to. Oh I suppose, well done Arsenal.
May 27, 20179 yr What I don't get is they have Mertesacker upfront (who was excellent fro them btw) and we resort to long balls? Which plays right into his hands. A f**king joke that tactic.

I do think we are overly harsh on Hazard on here. Why does it always fall on his shoulders to perform on the big stage ? He's not really so different from our other big game players over the years like Drogba and Lampard. Drogba was a freak in these big games and players like him don't come around often so if anyone is going to compare these two then i think it would be a bit unfair. But even our other great players over the years didn't perform in the big games all of the time. The best thing about those days is that we never put so much pressure on one player to drag us over the line, we never had to because we had so many players that could come up with the goods. Hazard doesn't have that same support. I'm sure that if Hazard was playing with players like we had from 2004-2010, nobody would even be thinking about his big game record.

I just see the same continual problems with him that hold him back and I just don't understand it with him. It wasn't all in him but he did some good runs only to do his turn back rather than take people on.

Lampard, Terry, the two Cole's, Essien, Makelele, Ballack, Mata. It's a dream for any striker to play with these types of players. Outside of Lampard, Hazard has been our most consistent player for goals in years. We rely too much on him in the big games and i think it's a bit unfair. We used to be a team that never had to rely on the brilliance of one player, now we are constantly demanding it. Even Barcelona and Real Madrid can't rely on that one superstar player, that is why they have a team full of them. That is what we used to have. Yes they can....ronaldo has bailed Real out more times than I can count. He's a big game player I cant agree with that tbh, each to their own but Hazard has let us down on many occasions like this IMO. He's a special player but he will never truly be the best or one of them until he can show more consistency and win finals like this. Hes had a very good season but he can do so much more but you get the feeling he is holding back like so many other footballing people have pointed out.

A f**king joke that tactic. A player who hasn't played all season and we played right into his hands. Long balls, easy for a big guy like Mertesacker. Costa who isn't much more mobile than Mertesacker, again, it's not hard for someone like Mertesacker to deal with. If he was up against someone quick and mobile, he would have had a terrible day. Just another reason why i thought Batshuayi would have been the better choice today.
May 27, 20179 yr Hazard did go missing today, disappointing but he was just one among many who failed to turn up.

Hazard brings it on himself. He talks the talk but he needs to walk the walk so to speak. He gives these interviews about competeting for the Ballon D'Or and being up there as a trophy winner the way JT was with us. I'm sorry but he's a million miles from the likes of Ronaldo & Messi in that running, and he's a fair bit behind the players like Suarez and if people can't see that I'd argue that they're biased. He's a brilliant player but he's not of that level, so if he's going to come out with these interviews he needs to back it up on the pitch. As for the JT part, I just can't see Eden putting his body on the line the way JT has time and time again in a Chelsea shirt & the sheer desire to win, maybe he'll prove me wrong in that regard but at the moment I just don't see it.
