IMO Chelsea really need an upgrade on RWB, Moses really tailed of badly at the end season and is he champions league quality?

The other issue is Chelsea lack creativity. Pedro and Willian don't create much and Hazard is out for a while. If Fabregas doesn't start I can't see how Chelsea will break down teams. Would rather spend 60m on a attacking player.

Seen a few bits on the forum about the Home grown or lack there of make up of our squad.

And I am just trying to wrap my head around what we need if we are to fit with the Home Grown quota. I thought I would post my musings in case anyone else was worried as well.

Assuming the current spine of the squad as suggested by Jezq8 above whilst removing Kenedy (who counts as U21 for BPL but not for CL) who I would imagine can be used as LWB cover if no one comes in.

The current spine is 18 players out of a possible 25 therefore we have 4 spots available. 
We only have 2 out of the 4 Club Trained players that we will need to register for the CL, meaning 2 reserve players/loanees need to be brought into the squad taking (up to 20)
This also takes us to 7 out of the 8 Home grown players, say another reserve/ loanees to fill the home grown quota and 21 of the 25 squad spots have been filled.

So therefore we have 4 Squad spots for transfers in,
LWB - Sandro/Baba
RWB - Danilo 
CM - Bakayoko
ST -  Morata/Belotti

And 3 more Reserve/Loanee promotions
BAKER/CHALOBAH, BOGA and UGBO would work for me.

It looks like we shouldn't have too many issues to work around and if or squad were to look like this come the start of the season I would personally be quite happy.

Jose only plays 3-5-2 against weaker teams, against a decent opponent in a real game his formation probably will be an old fashioned 7-2-1.

When Matic goes then another midfielder is required. How was Van Ginkel looking last season? On football manager his quality  Pasalic is great aswell.

I really would like to see a Sanchez quality to join on the right side plus could cover up front. 

I'm kind of edging towards Barkley. Home grown and a year left on his contract

MvG's season long loan to PSV has been confirmed. I think Pasalic is in the squad for China (based on some reports), so he might be part of it.

Van Ginkel has gone back to PSV for the season, so no number for him. 

Christensen and Musonda Jr will be involved. 

The way the current training / tour squad is looking, Conte will also be promoting one of Scott and Pasalic, one of Baker and Boga and one of Tomori and Clarke-Salter. 

Having let Ugbo go to Barnsley, I'm assuming we won't be promoting a striker.

Which will end up looking something like:

Courtois, Big Willy, Eduardo (3)

Azpi, Christensen, Luiz, Rudiger, Cahill, Tomori (6)

Moses, Alonso, Baker, Scott, Fabregas, Kante, Bakayoko, Kenedy (8)

I expect us to add one forward and one wing-back and probably sell Kenedy.

I imagine the likes of Mount and Dasilva will be at the edge of the squad by the end of the season. 

 

I'm going to be honest but for a team which is fighting for the PL and champions league the squad seems to be abit weak. Is there no youth keepers who can cover a HG slot and is surely better then Eduardo?

Defence looks strong and has options. Danilo would be a great option, Babas perfect position would be as wingback but when I checked he isn't going to China.

I just can't see the midfield being strong enough, after Fabregas, Kante and Baka there is no strength in depth.

In attacking positions I have never rated Willian as a first team player.

The first team is strong with IMO an upgrade on Matic, hopefully Danilo on Moses and when a new forward joins. I'm sure the squad will be improved though.

 

We often talk about who is rumored, but which positions do you feel we need backup in? Got any suggestions? Do we need an alternative to Alonso? What about Moses? With Matic probably leaving do we need another player aside from Bakayoko?

Fabinho as replacement for Matic, that would allow us to switch between 3-5-2 and 3-4-3 frequently.

It is a week until the community shield we have signed 4 players and then have supplemented the squad with loanees so how does our squad shape up given the large number of outgoings.

I have previously posted regarding the home grown status of the squad to make sure we comply and U21, Homegrown and CLUB TRAINED players will be highlighted as such. Please note that U21s don't need to be registered.

I will also exclude Costa and will "" any player likely to be excluded.

GK (3): Courtois, Willy, Eduardo
- as good as its going to get although a slight step down from last year

CB (5): Luiz, Cahill, Rudiger, CHRISTENSEN, Azpi(can cover RWB), "JCS" 
- Stronger than last season lots of depth this year

RWB (2): Moses, TOMORI (can cover at CB)
- With Azpi and Tomori as cover we should be fine in this position like the look of Tomori so hope he gets some cup exposure, however a potential position to upgrade

LWB (2): Alonso, "Kenedy" 
- With Kenedy all but kicked out of the squad and Cuevas just not good enough this is a concern

CM (5-6): Kante, Bakayoko, Fabregas, "Matic", Pasalic?, BAKER 
- If Matic leaves then Bakayoko needs to settle in quickly otherwise we have weakened this position. I also think Pasalic is a good option (20 starts for AC Milan last season) and is probably at a higher level then Chalobah was going into last season so I don't see CM as big of an issue as some and it would also be nice to see Baker in the squad getting some meaningful minutes.

AM (5): Hazard, Pedro, Willian, MUSONDA, BOGA
- Whilst no one has been signed bringing in Boga and Musonda who have impressed me so far in preseason likely strengthens this position

ST (3): Morata, Batsuayi, "Remy" 
- Both Morata and Bats look good and I think both are very good striking options to have and I suppose Remy can play 3rd fiddle if needed although I would prefer someone less injury prone 

So for me we are a Striker and LWB short of a complete squad. Not perfect but not the end of the world.

I don't see us signing a non-homegrown status RWB (so can be U21) and Pasalic can be upgraded upon by someone like Sanches. 

Are squad currently contains 15 Non-Homegrown players (max 17) excluding Matic so we have no issues filling both LWB ans Striker with non homegrown options. I have a feeling this will be Sandro and Llorente and if that were the case we have had a very strong window in my opinion, I can also see the merit behind bringing in Sanches or the Ox but these are non essential imo.

Centre midfield is looking really thin, we missed out on Tolisso and Kessie. I'd take sanches as long as there is an option to buy, but the player I think we should go for is Goretzka. Only a year left on Goretzka's contract, currently bayern look too stacked to be able to offer him game time. If we act now, we could pick him up for €30m. 

There are plenty of options. The longer we leave it, the fewer options we will have.

Hasn't Goretzka agreed to sign for Bayern at the end of his contract? I agree though he would be a very good addition to the squad

looks stronger to me than the 343 with Cahill and Moses, arguably two of our weaker starters.

Squad depth is quite worrying. We had a small squad last year and no CL football, now we will have more games (well, 6 more games at least), and an even smaller squad.

With Matic and Costa certainly leaving, Baba Rahman nowhere to be seen, and I would assume Kenedy probably didn't impress Conte in pre-season and may leave on loan, that would leave us with:

LWB: Alonso
CB: Cahill, Christensen
CB: Luiz
CB: Azpilicueta, Rudiger
RWB: Moses
CM: Kante

We could fill in a couple of back-up positions with youngsters:

But we are still majorly lacking another LWB and another CM.

The team picks itself really. If there are anymore massive signings then that will change things. The squad needs to be bigger. Not sure any of the many players that are out on loan are ready to start games all the time. Biggest thing for me is Costa should be in the team. Sort it out.
