Chelsea Legends vs. Inter Forever

Featured Replies

Now that was a wonderful period and I'd go as far as to say that it was the best era of my time supporting the blues. We were competitive without reaching the point where success became the norm and thus somewhat expected - and without doubt, it was probably the most entertaining period football wise. Some great fast sweeping attacks, a good few flicks and tricks, some belting strikes and some guts and determination and without everyone we played against sticking eleven men behind the ball for 89 minutes. Certainly far greater pleasure watching that side than this seasons mob.

Legends to play again at Stamford Bridge

NEWSMON 12 FEB 2018

Chelsea Football Club is delighted to announce a very special Legends match against Inter Forever at Stamford Bridge on Friday 18 May.

The game will bring together members of Chelsea’s triple trophy-winning team of 1998 with a collection of Inter’s finest players from the recent past, meaning we will see the likes of Gianfranco Zola, Dennis Wise and player-manager Gianluca Vialli going head to head with Javier Zanetti, Youri Djorkaeff and Francesco Toldo.

It is now two decades since the Blues lifted the League Cup, Cup Winners’ Cup and Super Cup all in the same year. We are delighted to be bringing that team back together to celebrate their achievements and take on an Inter Forever side marking a 20th anniversary of their own – they lifted the UEFA Cup in 1998 with a 3-0 win over Italian rivals Lazio.

All proceeds from the game will go towards the Chelsea Foundation, which boasts one of the most extensive community programmes in sport, helping improve the lives of more than one million young people all over the world each year.

Tickets for the match are available from just £20 for adults and £10 for concessions, and are on sale to season ticket holders now, with access for members to follow on Wednesday before the game goes on general sale this Friday. Matchday packages are available now to season ticket holders, with prices starting from just £98 including VAT.

Announcing the game, Chelsea legend Graeme Le Saux, said: ‘All the players I spoke to were really excited about the prospect of playing together again and I think it is going to be brilliant.

‘Everybody will want to come off the pitch feeling they have shown themselves in a good light. We are all old professionals and there is a pride in your work, and it is easy to say it is a game we just want to enjoy, but ultimately, if you score the winner, you are going to be delighted!’

Former Inter goalkeeper Toldo added: ‘This match with Chelsea represents a big game, which is most importantly about charity before and after, but during the game we are always competitive. We will be bringing a strong team and we are looking forward to it.’

Further players on either team are going to be announced in due course, so watch this space for more details!

Jimmy & Eidur didn’t play for us in 1998 but also I’d be suprised if the whole squad from that season were available! Who knows who will fill in the gaps?

I wonder what the full Chelsea squad will be, I'm assuming a few players such as Dan Petrescu won't be there because they're coaching teams.

Wonder if 60's porn star, Ed De Goey will be there?

Is Beefy going to give the acting a rest to come for a kick about?

This was the Chelsea team that I grew up on, so the likes of Dennis Wise, Gus Poyet, Zola, Di Matteo were my heroes growing up. These are very much my legends.

It’s in the off season so unless they’re part of an international set up they should be free. Sparky should be free at least!

If De Goey can’t make it maybe Dmitri Kharine can :JC_doubleup:

Our Squad for that season.

Shed lower row 1. Just do it. Screw work, somethings in life are more important!

Shed lower row 1, you can step unto the pitch to help out!

Got mine yesterday. Hope it sells out, people who haven’t seen these players should go as this will probably the last time you will see a lot of these players together with age and logistics. Looking forward to seeing people I can call friends playing in a great game.
