We've got a new Kepa

Fair play to @azpi28for sticking up for Kepa and giving his reasons.

I have never been convinced by him. He has made some great saves but that's what keepers are paid for and he just doesn't have enough presence about him. We have been spoiled because for so long we had two of the best in the world in Cech and then Courtois so Kepa is a massive downgrade and I would like us to have a more imposing keeper again, which I think ALL successful teams HAVE to have. High hopes for Slonina and hopefully he will be our No.1 for the future.

i completely agree with the presence part

that's also something that you can't see in stats

he isn't an imposing figure, he isn't intimidating and it never really feels like he is that kind of goalkeeper that has this aura around him that nothing will get past him.

remember Oliver Kahn? it would be nice if we could find a goalkeeper like that, a bit insane

money would have gone to an Orphanage, but he couldn't stand to let in goals, even for charity

Except, it sounds as though we are sending Slonina out on loan instead of giving him a go in the First Team Squad 🙄

I can’t people rate kepa must be on the funny fags I’ve watched Chelsea for over 50yrs he’s one of the worst goalkeepers we ave had he doesn’t come for corners or crosses let’s in goals for fun from shots outside box he’s to short and weak like going back to Kevin Hitchcock days don even want him as no 2 we won’t win a carrot with him goal

As critical as I am about certain aspects of his game it's his non existent distribution where he will hold us back the most.

Always baffles me when I see that cited as one of his major strengths, he has a good touch and close control (which has maybe given the illusion he's this great sweeper keeper) but his actual passing is attritious.

Been saying it for ages and have said it plenty of times in this thread.

We need a better goalkeeper THIS summer. If you want to be an elite team, you need an elite keeper. Kepa ain't it and we need to get rid of him asap.

Well we won't be an elite team this season anyway, and the midfield is in much bigger need of fixing than the keeper.

Can’t agree with that you need a very good keeper to win anything and Kepa is poor no other premier team would want him get rid

But we have won things with Kepa. I'm not saying Kepa is good enough if we want to compete with the best, because he's not, but we're not there yet anyway and there are much bigger problems to fix right now than the goalkeeper.

All of this talk of winning anything is deluded anyway. We just had a shocking season, finished 12th and could barely win a game of football and finished with an abysmal 44 points, winning trophies any time soon isn't even on my radar. As it stands, I don't even see us challenging top 6, not unless we sort out that midfield.

There is a severe lack of world class GKs at the moment and its likely to get worse because managers these days want a GK with footwork like Messi. They prefer a brilliant passer but an average short-stopper over an average passer but a brilliant short-stopper. Gone are the days of dominant keepers like Buffon, Casillas, Van der Sar and Cech.

Not totally true, Courtois case in point.

Problem with Kepa is he doesn't offer either at an elite level.

Madness that it seems he’s gonna survive this purge of players. Unfortunately he will cost us plenty of points this season. Mendy was a far better keeper.

Yea mendy is miles better but most goalkeepers are

Mendy, in this lifetime, is in no way better than Kepa! He can't even kick a ball! That's why Kepa is still here and Mendy isn't.

We dropped Mendy for, at that time, a very out-of-form Kepa who hadn't played properly for months.

Atrocious is harsh imo, if we have confident full backs and a number 6 willing to collect the ball he's more than fine in that department.

Its not a random 4 month period on 2021 anymore.

You said things ? cost us another cup final when wouldnt come off you must be kepas brother

Kepa actually saved Sane's penalty in the shoot out. Perhaps if Jorginho didn't roll his straight into Ederson's hands or David Luiz didn't hit the post we might have won.

You're wasting your keyboard's pressure pads. There is no debating with bias bordering on peculiar.

Under no metric is any version of Kepa even on the same stratesphere as 2021 Edou.
