CAS are not guaranteed to lift it, they did for us before in 2009 but im sure they rejected Barca's, whereas they lifted Madrids i believe. But I think Barca had broken a tonne of rules.. Cynic in me thinks FIFA were always going to reject the appeal, otherwise it makes a mockery of them refusing to lift it originally. CAS provides a much better chance of it being frozen for one window, though.
May 8, 20197 yr Just as i typed that, Matt Law tweeted this Fifa were never expected to overturn their own ruling on appeal so it was always about whether or not a decision could be reached in time for Chelsea to go to CAS before the summer window, which is what they will now do See, it was always aimed at ending up with CAS. I think CAS are perhaps more law oriented than FIFA, as they deal with all sports and all sorts of issues. So this is where our lawyers can really get stuck into it

FIFA were never going to overturn their ban, I thought there was a chance they may agree to delay it until the appeals process has been exhausted. I think the club just wanted to get this decision asap, so we can take it to CAS.
May 8, 20197 yr Lets not forget, i may be wrong, but i think all the SPanish clubs had to go to CAS too. I dont think it was FIFA who suspended their bans

Bad news. And now the club really, really needs to have a think about the manager. For us to even think about succeeding under him we need to have certain kind of players and now we will be unable to get them. We can't keep Higuain or Kovacic as well and i don't think Giroud will want to play for Sarri any longer so we have major headaches on our hands here.

Supposedly though we have evidence that they were trials, and trials are allowed under FIFA's rules. This is what the CAS will hear from us. No one is surprised by this decision today, we all knew it was headed for CAS if we're being honest.

We have brilliant players from our own ranks coming through. Reece James, Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount, Ampadu. I can see us having a hard time lifting the PL trophy over the next few years - but it's a brilliant opportunity for us to trust in a manager as well as bringing youth through.
May 8, 20197 yr Yup wanted it done quickly so CAS could stay the ban pending an appeal. We'll move quickly to do that I imagine as planning would already be well underway for the summer at most clubs and we know we can now offer CL football. I'm ambivalent about this tbh. Our transfer business has been so bad that we might as well get banned and bring in more youth. Our best signings this season by streets were Ruben and CHO. Nothing to say James, Mount or DaSilva can't do the same next season.
May 8, 20197 yr Well if we can't sign anyone, and the ban means we can't keep Higuain or Kovacic as well, then I guess Sarri will have to run the rule over the current squad and the 40+ players in the loan army, and see what he can do with that lot. Maybe Hazard stays in this scenario as well ?

Also, I wonder how this fits in with our own FA telling us it was within the rules for do what we had requested? This must be taken into consideration surely.
May 8, 20197 yr I don't really know how I feel about this. Our recent transfer dealings have been woeful to say the least, and who is really out there good enough to improve us to City's/Pools level that would actually want to come here rather than to our rivals or Madrid/Barca?
May 8, 20197 yr No surprise Fifa upheld their decision question is now can an appeal to CAS freeze the ban until January.
May 8, 20197 yr Can anyone answer this If we appeal to CAS which we will, and let's say they cant provide an answer by the summer window, does the ban stay in place? or do the CAS freeze it anyway as an appeal is ongoing?

We do have some great talents. But in that case we'll need a manager who will put faith in them. I have strong doubts Sarri is that man. First of all our two biggest talents have so far not signed an extension citing lack of playing time as the main reason and secondly he simply doesn't show much interesting in our youth in general. He's not even been to a youth-game yet.

May 8, 20197 yr Cas appeals Barcelona appeal 28-10-14 hearing 5-12-14 decision 31-12-14 Real Madrid appeal 18-8-16 hearing 14-12-16 decision 20-12-16 Atletico appeal 18-9-16 hearing 24-4-17 decision 1-6-17 Not looking good for this summer.... Window opens in 8 days time, if CAS can get us a hearing as quick as they did for Barcelona, which I doubt, we might get the ban delayed around the end of June, which leaves us 5/6 weeks to sign whatever players are left. May 8, 20197 yr You would think the ban would be frozen while it goes to CAS otherwise the club is already serving a ban that could be overturned.
