Mediocrity

Featured Replies

It appears that our club and players all accept mediocrity. The way our players showed no care for results and the loss, shows to me that we are fine with being mediocre. We do not have the hunger as a club to win every game now. The board does not show ambition with getting the best players, theyll just throw money at average pleayers because it is simply easier to get average players for high fees.

The club lack ambitions to attract high profile players, lack ambition to negotiate contracts with Thibaut and Hazard and seem to not care about results. Our players cant be blamed fully for this, because they are just reflecting what Chelsea FC are currently.

We do not have the drive and hunger currently. Change will need to happen at the top, starting with Marina and hiring a DOF.

How do you feel about change at the very top? Replace Roman?

After all he hired Marina and choses to keep her in the job. Personally I doubt there is even one major decision taken at board level that hasn't been run past and signed off by Roman.

His lack of attendance at our games is troubling. Maybe there is some truth in the rumours he wants to sell.

Not replace Roman. Replace Marina or hire a DoF who will make decisions on what players to buy.

It was very publicised at the time that the government is f**king around with his visa.

Oh good, another thread speculating about Abramovich :good2:

Not at all. I specifically want a DOF and Marina to show more ambition or be replaced.

The board at times had no clue what to do, starting from when Jose was fine to sell certain players that were scouted to be good in the future the board went full control mode with Conte and that didn't work out well either, so now with Sarri it's again a bit better relationship although he himself has said multiple times that he has no say in the transfermarket. Even so he got 2 favorite players already.

Signing Pulisic is a good sign, so was signing Kepa. But we do lack quality for Champions League no matter what.

Kepa was an insanely expensive amount for an unproven GK. This was an effect due to us being awful in negotiating a new contract or sellikg Courtois. Im not saying buying Kepa as a replacement was the problem. The fee we payed is the issue because it shows the underlying issues that we have. An ineffective leadership by our board.

We used to hear terms like a certain player was a long term target, haven't heard that for a few seasons.  Still Rudiger was a good buy, Christensen looks like he will do a job post Luiz. Barkley seems injury free and although not setting the world alight will probably recoup his fee. Next season who ever leads us looks like a tough one, I only hope if it is not Sarri a change is made early so we can bed in the youngsters like Tammy.

I agree that it was a too much expensive buy but at least he's a good quality young goalkeeper.

I dont doubt that he is a good quality GK. We can all agree though that 70M was too much and his purchase was a last minute reaction due to the whole Courtois debacle. We let Courtois run down the contract with no plan. This same scenario is currently happening with Hazard.

Yes, you can also blame Courtois for running down his contract and acting a c*nt, but this is solely still the boards fault for being gullible, ineffective and flat out lazy. They arent fit to run this football club.

We essentially replaced Courtois with a keeper on a very very long contract for 35m. It was a lot but broken down over the length of contract it's not too relevant.

I'm starting to think Marina is part of our problems, I know it's easy to scapegoat and we don't know much of the details, but given what Courtois said and many other sources, it appears that she has a lot more power than just negotiating.

She's a businesswoman, handled a lot of Roman's businesses, she knows how to save money and make money, but what's her experience with football? If she really has a say in transfer budgets and our direction in football in general then that's worrying. It could very well be that Marina is a big part of the problem, Emenalo was a scapegoat for years but what's happened since he has left? We've been even worse in the Transfer Market...

Ughh I really don't know anymore...

Marina is Roman's appointee, Emenalo went 2017, Roman's Visa was blocked May18.

It's difficult to know whether she was a short term experiment which has been extended due to the visa situation or she was intended as a long term appointee,

I would suggest the former. meanwhile news today that Radcliffe is still interested yet not at £2.5bn

I think this is (in part at least) a by product of Sarri having a preferred set lineup.  The same 11-13 players know they are starting, and it doesn't matter how they perform, or what form they are in.  They do not have a fear of being dropped.  They don't play as if their first team place depends on it, because it doesn't.  As a result, those players that would be pushing for a first team place get frustrated because it doesn't matter what they do in training, or how well they do when they get a chance to get in, they know Sarri is going right back to his preferred 11.

I think our attack is too predictable, against Wolves we did not get the breakthrough until Jorginho went off and Willian was brought on. He was also on Hazard's side of the pitch and they matched the defenders meaning Hazard only had to get past one on the edge of the box instead of the usual two or three.

Agreed, we have very little fluidity or emphasis on quick attacking plays.
