If reports are to be believed it was our Jewish owner Roman Abramovic who pushed for this game to be played. Frustrated with the club's continued antisemetic association the club set up a "Say No to Antisemitism" campaign. The game we are playing will "raise money and awareness for a number of initiatives that tackle discrimination, persecution and hatred, including the World Jewish Congress, the Tree of Life synagogue, the Anti-Defamation League and the Holocaust Educational Trust."

So maybe direct your ire at the "stupid Russian man" instead?

Maybe Walter is the writer from the Sun who wrote how this match was completely pointless and missed the entire reason they are playing the match in the first place as you mentioned in your comment here? Or maybe Walter is reactionary and knows that the more vile the comment the more reaction he/she will incite out of us?

Either way, the match is for a great cause. Maybe it shouldn't have been scheduled when it is scheduled to happen but I think that is besides the point now.

Have you seen the plane they are travelling on? Not a plane as you and I know it but absolute Luxury!

It's not ideal, but it's pretty much an exhibition match. The players don't need to go full competitive in this game, and it's likely a few young players will play also. Excited to see James perform with some of the senior players.

That's how I see it - far from ideal but sure they won't be over-exerting themselves and it will be good experience for a few of the younger players with team bonding and all that.

Pretty much how I see it, it also means we keep ticking away before the final otherwise its a 3 week gap between games which isn't ideal.

If I’m not mistaken we are a football club, that should be the priority, whether or not you may support a cause, in footballing terms it’s an idiotic move.

As for reactionary, hardly,  I wanted to refer to her as opposed to name her, she is Russian and a woman and by which anyone on here will know to whom I’m referring it was also to belittle her lack of experience I.e not naming a name senonomys with football, in other words saying “some random Russian woman” would have spelled it out better.

However some like to be on trend with our hyper always be offended society and refer to calling a Russian woman a Russian woman as vile...get a grip.

The gnashing of teeth around this game is truly incomprehensible to me.

We don't play for 2 Weeks...

I'm more worried about a LACK of fitness because of the break than any perceived tiredness. I wish we had another friendly scheduled Next Wednesday (yes a bit closer to home)

I've done Day trips from LA to New York and back. It takes a day, two max, to recover.

We've had players come back from Brazil on a Wednesday after truly competitive matches and be back in the squad on a Saturday. This is a puddle jump compared to that.

This game isn't in the middle of Europa League finals prep. That's next week.

This is an ambassador trip for a good cause that will get Chelsea plenty of good international pub.

That anyone is worried about this interfering with match preparation for a game in two weeks is beyond me.

</end rant>

You made the decision to type "Some Russian woman" instead of using her name.  And typing her name would have been easier.  So I think we all took your point.  Maybe you thought you were being funny.  Big mis-judgement on your part.

The team spent 6 hours sitting on a luxurious plane, are staying at a luxurious hotel with a spectacular view of Boston Harbor, and training just as they were if they were in Cobham.  They'll have a light run out vs the Revs, some young players will probably get a chance to play, and they will return to the UK with plenty of time to rest and prepare for the EL final.

It doesn't matter whether any of us support this cause.  The owner of the football club I love and support believes it's a worthy cause.  Considering your insensitivity toward Marina, it doesn't surprise me that you would totally miss the reason behind this match:  the importance of bringing awareness to the racism, hatred, and bigotry that has invaded our game.

We are a football club, and it is a priority. So should be using your platform to raise awareness about racism and antisemitism that has seemed to be more abundant recently. And as the timing, it is a tad confusing but we have 2 weeks before we play Arsenal in Baku. If we can't get ready for that game with 2 weeks in between and enough time to get used to the time difference, then I'm sorry there are a lot lot more issues at hand.

The premise of the game is a good cause. Would you prefer it in mid June? or During preseason before they head to Japan?

I’m sure she is smarter than me that’s why she has nested herself in as director at a top football club while having no footballing background.

However in terms of footballing decisions she repeatedly makes stupid ones.

Again I make the point that we are a football club and putting an anti senitism friendly event above a European final is stupid, if he or she did it, it’s stupid, and her job as football director is to advise our “Jewish owner” that causes he supports shouldn’t be out above the ambitions of the club to win trophies...

Is that unreasonable to say?

What a load of bollox this has descended into its bad timing and it’s a stupid move as this whole thread stated until 2 guys from Boston who want to watch their club decided a charity match was in priority above a European final and found a list of non footballing reasons to justify it.

The players are exhausted they need every bit of rest they can get, whoever made the decision made a stupid one and Marina as director of football should highlight that...you can pour all the faux pc onto it you like the bottom line is the same and it’s not worth discussing further.

Yes, it's unreasonable.

Please wake up.  Marina had nothing to do with the scheduling or playing of this match.  Roman Abramovich set it up.  There have been several replies stating this:  you refuse to comprehend them.  Stop using this match as a platform to bash her.

This match was not put above the EL final.  Check the calendar.

Mate go away you don’t know what you’re talking about, she is director of football, it’s her job to advise the owner that’s what you refuse to comprehend, honestly I’m not interested, I know you have the wind behind you because you think 3 people supported you in getting enraged at me calling a woman a woman but you’re wrong it’s under her scope of responsibility as director, a mainstay of which is advising the owner now please go away

It descended into "bollox" when you decided to use a derogatory term in place of using Marina's name, and your inability to comprehend who arranged the game, why it was arranged, and when it's being played relative to the Europa League final.

Before that, it was a perfectly legitimate discussion.

Mate do one seriously, you’re like a broken record...and calling a Russian woman a Russian woman isn’t derogatory, and it’s her job she is director of football, are you repeatedly skipping over that, I was forced to write it 3 times, only way it’s not her fault is if she said it’s bad timing and he told her to f**k off, plus you think he arranged the dates, him personally the owner, without consultation, you really are clueless, go and watch Ellen and leave me alone you strange man

First of all, she is not the Director of Football.  That position at our club is vacant.

The match is part of ROMAN ABRAMOVICH'S Say No To Anti Semitism project.  It's Roman's cause.  Not Marina's.

I'm not going away mate, and I now will pay special attention to call you out every time you post hatred and stupidity.  It's been made clear that Marina had nothing to do with this.  Do your own research:  find and post some article or news story that references Marina "advising" Roman to play this game.  You won't find it.  This is all Roman.

It may seem like a broken record, but only because you lack comprehension.  Despite being told several times that this is an event conceived by Roman Abramovich, you want to keep blaming Marina.

I'll wait for you to find and post the article where this was someone else's idea, not Roman's.

Still waiting...……...

Ha ha ha ha ha......thanks for making my point.

Apparently you've missed all the discussion on this forum about who we should hire as a Director of Football.

She is acting as director of football she has taken over Emanuels previous responsibilities and is there for acting director of football, what do you think we just left an empty space, stop directing football, she is in charge and other figures at the club help fill in, do you know what director of football does?

They are the go between the manager and the board, that’s marina, they are in charge of transfers, that’s marina, they are also the technical director, she gets help with this, our acting director of football is marina you’re repeatedly showing you have no clue

Might you have meant Michael Emenalo?  I'm not aware of anyone working for us named Emanuels.

Great businesswoman?  Yes.  Tough negotiator?  Absolutely.  Technical director, director of football, talent scout and evaluator?  Nope, nope, and nope.

Oh, and I'm still waiting for you to find an article suggesting that Marina had anything to do with the conception or scheduling of anti-Semitism match...…..

You’re a bored lonely man, well don’t pick up on autocorrect not the point, she is the director of football why are you trying to wriggle round it?

Evidence of her making the decision, are you having a laugh, that will be published will it, she is the director it’s  under her scope that it plain and simple, now jog on this is embarrassing, I’m not responding to you anymore you’re loving this, I’m really not

You keep assuming you know what it is that Marina Granovskaia specific roles and responsibilities are at Chelsea. She would likely have had little involvement in the decision to play this game, organising the fixture and deciding when it should be played but you seem intent on singling her out for criticism for the game?

Taken directly from chelseafc.com about Marina Granovskaia’s role at Chelsea “since 2010 has acted as a representative of the owner at the club and in support of the board of directors. She joined the board of Chelsea FC plc and the Football Club Board in June 2013 and is mainly responsible for player transactions.”

She is responsible for the player transactions. Not scouting the players, identifying those needed for the team. The negotiation of finances involved. Transfer fee, agent fees, wages etc.

But you keep blaming her for a friendly fixture that helps us maintain match fitness before a cup final and also is to increase awareness for causes close to the club. Whatever floats your boat fella.

Not bored.  Not lonely.  Just trying to be factual, correct, and intelligent.  I can see where those attributed are not so important to you.

Funny how there are all kinds of quotes attributed to Roman about the game.  But not a single story about Marina having anything to do with it.  Why is that?  Could be because she actually had nothing to do with it.  Bruce Buck has more to do with it.  He's in Boston right now.

What I love is calling out those who feel it's appropriate to post veiled comments about women, other religions, other races, or any other sort of bigotry, racism, or hatred.  Especially when it surrounds a charitable match arranged to counter such behavior.

Have you found that article citing Marina's involvement in any part of this match yet?

As an impartial third party to this dispute, I think it was a real dumb idea to have this match prior to the Europa league final, and I don't care if it is two weeks away, three weeks away, or more.   That being said, it is not like they are going to the West Coast of the United States, but again any travel is not good for this team, especially since Baku is fairly far away from London and the team has to deal with that as well.

Odd that you seem to have forgotten you called her stupid.

I have little doubt that you when you used  the term Russian Woman that wasn’t meant to be a compliment.
