Declan Rice to Chelsea?

Now this is a strange one. I see why Arsenal want Rice but not at the fee required. He seems someone who is a like for like for Partey. Does he get in Arsenal's best team? They need depth but if they were to pursue him would be interesting to see how he fits in.

Rumored summer fee is 50mill. Something the new champions could easily afford. Think they paid more for Ben White.

Indeed,  here one of the concerns has been Potter's ability to work with established stars that may feel that they are above him.

As such I would be surprised if the likes of Declan Rice would appeal to him. I would much more expect to see links with Caceido, Bissouma, Lavia, etc. I think part of the appeal of new up and coming youngsters is that he will get the respect from players who will more readily buy into the tactical plans.

Given how Rice has been aggressively making excuses for Southgate I don't think that will be too much of a problem.

He has his heart set on Arsenal, shame as he’s a top top player

Compared to?

Enzo Fernandez, debatable.

Chiek Doucoure, definiteley

It is not necessarily about affording them what I was referring to. I was referring to the fact that he doesn't get in their best team. He is an alternative to Partey. So I would be interested to see how he fits in their team. With us, he prob walks in our team but right now don't see him getting ahead of Partey or Xhaka.

Your only posts here are about Trossard (Arsenal player) and Rice (Arsenal want him), me thinks we have a gooner in our midst.

How were the last 2 decades of mediocrity and never seeing your teams lift the biggest trophy in European football?

There's not a snowball in hells chance his price goes down to £50m.

Why? Could have a gentlemans agreement in place with West Ham after staying the last two seasons.

The only reason he's still there is because they priced him out (which is his own fault for signing that mega deal in the first place).

At this point the absolute lowest I can see West Ham's resistance breaking is £70m and even that's a stretch.

Only 2 years left on the deal though, they don't have the bargaining power to keep him anymore.

I think part of the appeal is this romantic notion of boyhood friends Mason Mount and Declan Rice teaming up again at the club they support. Sounds great but in reality, if Mount continues to baulk at the wage being offered versus what he wants there is a good chance that the club may be forced into selling him anyway.

I would rather see a Caicedo in the team than Rice. He can go to Arsenal for all I care. I don't even believe that Mount is good enough in this team let's see if we can get Joao Felix up and firing and buy him from A. Madrid, honestly, we have no business keeping Mount

Just say you don't like the English

@RIP Mourinho it is telling the clamouring over Fernandez who neither speaks the language nor has ever played in a league like this when Rice and Bellingham - both perfectly suited to what we need - are available.

Increasingly I think all things being equal two things are very helpful for squad construction:

1. Speaks the language

2. Has played in England.

Now of course Caicedo meets that criteria and is cheaper than all options. But he isn't shifting the needle for us.

Bellingham has his pick of clubs though.

True. If only we had a good manager to convince him that he could grow and have success at the top level. Ancelotti, Guardiola, Klopp, Potter. One of these is not like the others...

Yeah cannot see your reflection in the teeth of Pep, Carlo or Graham...

Potter's done a pretty good job convincing talent so far this window

Not this narrative again.

You don't see this ever rolled out to defend Reece James or John Terry do you? Why? Because it's widely agreed with every single fan they are/were bonafide elite players.

As for "never playing in this league" 12 years on and it appears we've learned absolutely nothing from picking "PL proven" Torres over Aguero. Not to mention our recent buys with experience in this league are at best yet to set the world alight and at worst unmitigated disasters.

Honestly getting fed up of that narrative being rolled out when British players get critisised.

My point was against Caicedo. I want Rice and Ezno.

I just want to know one thing Caicedo has on Rice. He's worse statistically, would cost more, more inexperienced, less leadership qualities.

Also Terry was a different era before the majority of these fair weather fans came around. I'd put my money on a lot of them wanting him sold for a 20 year old French CB with a cool sounding last name they've never watch. Go online and the amount of abuse our very own Lampard gets from a lot of our own fans now is crazy.
