Chelsea v Norwich (PL) Tues 14th Jul 20:15 GMT

Well we got the 3 points. That is what matters right?

A lot of the time we spend complaining about of defense. Today I found it particularly embarrassing we are holding the ball in the corner against a side who had not even made Kepa attempted a catch, the only side worse than us defending set pieces, simply based on the complete ineptitude of our attacking play.

Giroud got the winner but he was awful otherwise. Miskicked every other chance he had. He should have walked away with 4 goals. Terrible to watch. I know goal difference is beyond us now, no excuse for such a lazy display.

Of course that's what matters right now, we need to finish in the top 4 no question.

That was a professional, but uninspiring display. We needed that after the disappointing result against Sheffield United.

We have signed players for next season who will massively improve us and provide more of a goal threat, hopefully more will come to. The CL is a massive part of helping us sign the quality we need.

Well it was going to be a nervy game if we went on without goals. Norwich never plays like this. Their game is to pass and hold the ball, yesterday they just let us have the ball. They knew it is so easy to just sit back against us. Our movement between the narrow lines was nonexistent. They also held Pulisic, our only real threat, with two players. That is not too hard. Opponents know they only need to silence him as no one else is a real goal threat.

If Kovacic and Willian were actual threats to score opponents just couldn't let them roam. They are not so why not give them a bit of space.

We need less indifference and more end product. How ever it is achieved.

That is the thing, it is like in previous seasons when teams would double up on Hazard knowing he was our biggest threat on the pitch. I cannot wait when we have Ziyech and Werner in the team to provide multiple threats, so teams can't just target one player.

Hopefully we can add Havertz and a few extra players to that list. Willian just frustrates me with his constant slowing down on play to do his little shuffle, then to put in a crap cross or pass it back. Watching us, especially the last few seasons, we have lots of possession but not enough creativity and we need to improve on that. We are far too reliant on playing back/square passes when we need more courage to play forward at times, we are pretty predictable and that's why we get results like Bournemouth and West Ham.

At the moment though 3 points each game is a must, so however we get them is all that matters.

You can get away with a Kova type player if you have the devastating front three of Liverpool.

As someone said in other thread.. Modric doesnt score or assist to much... But in the end he is in top 5 midfielders.. Even at 34 or 35 he is top player for RM.. Modric himself said that Kova is very similar to him but with greater potential. He does something that statistics wont tell you. He moves ball forward as much as he can, as fast as he can.. Doing risky passes (not to much but he play smart), help defending (he is helping Alonso very much if you watch when they play), he always try to be free so other can make a pass to him. Etc etc... Problem is... Only Pulisic actually try to follow his tempo of play.. When he is running thru the middle Puli is the only one who follows him.. With Timo and Ziyech he will have more targets to make a better pass when he suddenly turn from defending to attacking mode. Every midfielder is looking better if they have better attacking 3 in front of them. If you dont remember Kova could have from 5 up to 10 or more assists if Tamy and Willian scored.. Many times that were 1 on 1 chances they missed.

Jesus Christ that was a difficult watch, I'm sure I was less nervous watching the CL final.  The players where very nervous too they looked like no one wanted to given the ball away thus continuously passing ourselves backward into cul de sacs.  If we play anything like that in our remaining games we'll be in trouble, thank god Norwich are terrible.  Most teams would have looked at that game thinking lets get a truck load of goals here but we never looked like we had the desire to.  I don't know about you lot but I can't wait for this season to end so we can start a fresh next season.  Whats happened to the confident team that we had early in the season?

Yes i always been a fan of Kovacic, he is so tidy and his work rate is amazing. Good positional awereness too like you said if Alonso bombs forward he takes up his spot and covers him if necessary.

Gotta say thats also Alonso's strenght to trust his teammates if he takes up unusual spots. Some would say reckless but i don't think he is so careless.

As i said on another post that Kovacic lacks a bit of endproduct and thou our forwards are a bit wasteful he also takes a bit of the blame.

Poor performance but a good result is all that matters at this stage Of the season. Hopefully Kante will be back soon and we can pick up the form going into the last few games.

It wasn't a poor performance, it was a professional yet edgy performance. Norwich did bugger all as we had total control of the match.

Think you're being a bit kind there and fair play for being positive.

It was a very dull game and thankfully Norwich offered very little. But if Norwich were a bit better, that could have easily ended up a narrow defeat, like the West Ham and Newcastle games earlier in the season where we appeared in control but still lost.
