Apologies to to the ladies on here but paying 17m for a lad before his nuts have even dropped, how can they possibly know what he is going to mature into.

World has gone mad. Or Todd's world certainly has

Reading a bit about this Paez lad, I think you're being a bit harsh on him.

Apparently a big factor in him tearing it up at youth levels is that at 177cm he is bigger than all the other lads - a direct consequence of an early nut drop LOL. The possibility that all the other kids will blow past him when their own testicles make their bid for freedom is completely irrelevant LOL

Not sure how highly rated this youngster is in South America but almost 20m for a 15 year old is utterly bonkers. His development is no where near at a point where a value can be truly assessed. Is he the next Messi or something?

Is it? We paid about the same for Barkley and he was sh*t. Real Madrid just paid about 60m for Endrick who is 15/16. Scouting in South America is a very good idea.

Can you shed some light on this lad then? I don't know anything about him.

To be honest i don't know much about him, but from what I've seen said about him from people that are more in the know  than i am, he sounds like a good young player.

I don't think the fee we plan to pay is that bad for a talented and promising young talent from South America. Yeah he may turn out to be a dud, but then we never know. He could turn out to be brilliant.

TBF Real Madrid paid 46M for Vinicius when he was 17, same with Rodrygo and agreed a deal for Endrick at 16 years of age for 60M.

Absolutely mental but these sort of figures for kids isn't unheard of anymore.

hes only 15, we wont see him near the first team for a long time. Going to get a random loan to a lower league english club at some point and probably get benched there and his progress halted

If he's good enough he will make it one way or another.

Of course, but I feel like when young youth players get loaned out to these lower league english teams, they always get snubbed and barely given a chance to play

I disagree, the ones who are good enough will play. Very few managers think long term at lower league level, it's all about points.

For example Plymouth are the team in pole position to win League One but their best players bar that keeper who single handedly took us to extra time last season are all on loan.

ive just seen the same thing happen with so many of our old youth products. how many quality youngsters did we have at u21 level, and then their progress gets completely stunted by these old dinosaur managers in the lower leagues who barely give them a chance

I'd say this only happens to the ones whose quality is borderline or worse. The ones who have what it takes get minutes, even if it takes a little time to establish themselves.

In my opinion the answer to your question is zero.

As I type this I don't recall a single player who failed on loan then went on to build a career that proved his loan manager, or managers, wrong for not picking him. On the other hand, with a bit of effort, I could name a raft of generally well regarded Cobham prospects who have nevertheless failed on loan as I expected. The latest of these are Harvey Vale and Tino Anjorin, about both of who I have said, here and/or elsewhere, that I do not believe in them.

I'm aware that this reads as me being boastful, for which I apologise, but I have an advantage over most people. Latterly, I go to Kingsmeadow (and elsewhere) to watch the young Blues play. When it was less convenient for me to actually get to the games than it is now, I would watch pretty much all the games which were broadcast on CTV. This gave, and gives, me more information to base my opinion on than some others have.

No I agree with you in the sense that a lot of these players look good at U21 level, but when it comes to the real game they dont. But the ones im referring to are a bit different.

Take for example the youth team of a few a years ago, the team that had the likes of RLC, Baker, Izzy Brown, Chalobah etc... That team, you could easily say that Chalobah for example was one of the lower rated players in that team in general, but someone like Lewis Baker and Izzy Brown were touted as the best with Solanke behind them.. But the fact that Chalobah is now in the main team and the likes of Baker and Brown are in the championship or god knows where, is down to their progress being halted by some terrible loans where they barely had any game time. Of course there are some other factors that play into this as well like injuries, but im sure there have been so many talented players that have had terrible loans or just managed poorly in the crucial ages between 18-21

Is there anyone you've seen this season in the development squad that looks like they have what it takes ?

am i correct in stating that he's playing as against players who are 1 or 2 years older than him?

So it's pronounced "pies" then LOL.

A sweet left foot, great balance, and a great eye for a pass, plus ball on a string etc etc. Looks very good at this level !

Fingers crossed he develops into a world class professional !

None which give me Reece James' sure thing vibes I'm afraid. We are in a fallow period with our development squads.
