Relegation run...

Featured Replies

Our easy start produced defeats at West Ham, at home to Forest and Brentford and a draw at Bournemouth.

Our "nightmare" run saw 8 points returned.

Now we go on a run against sides below us, most of which have relegation fears:

Everton (a)

Sheffield United (H)

Wolves (a)

Palace (h)

Luton (a)

Fulham (h)

After this lot (some cup games in the mix too) is Liverpool away.

How many points do we we.get from those 6?

I came close with my 5 to 6 from the nightmare run (was 8). I will guess at 7.

A friend told me this morning that Everton would be above us without the 10pt deduction which is pretty damning if true. Not looked up our league position in a while.

We just need to accept the fact that we are mid table team with many ups and downs. Unfortunately, for us it's mostly downs...

I believe we will do the job at home games, also we're capable to win the away games but it's hard to predict with our form.

I'm not confident enough to say that we can surprise and not to lose in all these games..

I'd be on my positive side and I will say we will take 10 points.

Young inexperienced sides produce inconsistent results. Young players come in and out of form very quickly. Its why we can go toe to toe with the big sides and have rubbish results against mid table sides, that we now also find ourselves in this category means tons of fans dont know what its like, so used to the silverware.

Doubt we'll get relegated, but we need to find consistency.

Fans already getting on the back of players is so silly. Why would players want to perform at the bridge when a load of rabid rabble rousers shout abuse at them. Sure boo them after the 90, but get behind the team through the game, the stuff posted in the match threads is embarrassing. Get over the fact we're no longer a top four team people and enjoy the results and games on merit. It's almost like to being back pre roman days.

Not just this season.  Here's a table of our last 38 games which is a full season.

You'll get a few muppets who don't know anything about football saying we're a side full of talented young players or we're inconsistent but we've been extremely consistent since Boehly took over.  Which is why we have the lowest points per game of every single team in the league over the two seasons.

We bought a group of young players that largely didn't look good at their previous clubs, overpaid for them and pretended they were top talents but the performances and results don't lie.

Get a f**king grip.

That aimed at me mate? Is a run of 6 games against sides who are mostly mentioned in the relegation picture, hence the title, a run against relegation threatened sides.

Found the replies interesting as to how many points fellow shed enders felt we would get from the run against the "top" sides, so asked the same question here.

? What's up Victor. I enjoy the predictions side of things, see who gets closest to being right on predicting, hence the enjoyment of Zetas match day predictions thread.

What about this thread do you find offensive?

12 points is my prediction.  We will lose to Everton and Wolves and win the rest.  I also think we will beat Newcastle and Preston in the cups.....

Interesting mate. And thank you for offering a prediction in the spirit of the thread.

That Luton game looks tricky to me too.

Old fashioned enclosed stadium, probably sh*t changing rooms. A real test of character.

Hmm, Palace at home a draw and Everton a win. Interesting Gol.

Thank you.

I guess Im a muppet... dont know what im talking about so entertain me. 🙂

But it is strange how we over perform against better sides further up the table than lower ones. I put that down to consistency and inexperience.

Have a read of this. https://theanalyst.com/eu/2023/11/oldest-and-youngest-premier-league-teams-2023-24/#:~:text=Chelsea have the third-youngest,24 years and 352 days.

We are the third youngest side due to Silva bringing the age up.

"Chelsea have the third-youngest team, with Mauricio Pochettino’s expensively assembled squad of young (mainly attacking midfield) players meaning they have an average age of their starting XIs of 24 years and 352 days. They are struggling somewhat so far this season, though that is surely more because of the speed with which the squad was thrown together and expected to perform, rather than anything particularly wrong with the fact they’re young.

They would be ‘top’ of this list were it not for the presence of 39-year-old evergreen centre-back Thiago Silva, who is one of only 18 outfielders across the entire Premier League to have played every minute this season."

Behind us are Spu*s... they look inconsistent as well, Arsenal have had Arteta as manager for nearly 4 1/2 years? they have backed him, until last year they were also well off the pace in mid table finishing 8th x2 and a 5th placed finish before last seasons 2nd spot... Poch has had a pre season and 15 league games. I'd be happy with top 5 and think scone blue's post of optimism is something to hold onto.

Yeah, we're well off the pace, but have had some pretty good results in the mix. we need to find that mix of consistency and aggression.

Maybe a bit of a muppet friend.

Spurs are inconsistent.  We're not.  If they win their next game they'll have double our number of wins over a 38 game period.

Inconsitency is ups and downs, We'd have to improve a lot to be inconsistent.

There's a bit of a myth we're better against the biggest sides, I'm pretty sure we went a year or so without beating a top half side since Tuchel left, have failed to beat City, Liverpool, Arsenal all at home,  got absolutely spanked by Newcastle and United.

Top teams tend to give more space in behind which allows us to create chances but we're consistently bad at taking them and are shaky at the back so we consistently drop points regardless of opposition.

It's how you see it. Note I haven't tried to insult you? leave it out mate.

If we're not inconsistent, then what are we?

Consistently sh*te.

Even if some want to imagine or pretend we have a talented squad.

As you like. I'll take this season on a game by game basis. Will enjoy the wins, get upset by the losses, it is what it is. that's where we are, currently a long way off the top teams.
