No funny nicknames now, that trick has stopped working.

Sheff United 0-5 Villa

Chelsea 2-4 Wolves

We blew our chance in the home game vs a we'll below par Villa. Our 4th round exit awaiting in my opinion.

Dont blame our away fans not selling this out.

Hard to see anything other than another solid beatdown I'm afraid. Pretty sure we did sell out the 6K allocation though.

Poch

Poch HAS to come up with something different here, and it has to work.
                       Petrovic

        Disasi     Silva    Gilchrist

Gusto     Enzo      Caicedo      Chilwell

            Chukwuemeka  Palmer

                     Nkunku

Our defensive structure of late has been woeful, hopefully this can make us a bit tighter at the back while keeping a bit of creativity on top

Only problem is Nkunku is sh*t as a striker.

The alternative in that 3-4-2-1 would be Nkunku in place of Chukwuemeka, and Jackson comes in as striker.

Take your pick out of which is the better option - neither is perfect !

On balance I'd probably go with what ADLF has suggested. Any injury to Gusto or Chilwell though and we are probably back to playing wingers or central defenders as wing backs.

I'd probably go with Nico just so we get the best out of Nkunku.

Conor could always fill in at wing back.

I would definitely try Jackson up top with Palmer/Nkunku behind in this formation. My worry would be Caicedo/Enzo as a midfield pair in front of the defense. They will just get overrun as usual.

Some decent line-up shouts, but I think we should go with this one! Villa are a tough team!

A good summary of our current problems ... you wouldn't take a single player in the 2024 squad ahead of their equivalent in that team ...

But yeah, I agree Nkunku fits better as one of the 10’s - but I really wanted Carney in there somewhere so I had to compromise.

Possibly more sh*t than Jackson from what I've seen. Unbelievable as that might sound.

Totally get where you're coming from - Chukky looks a good player.

As a striker I would agree. Nkunku is not a CF but prefers to play behind the striker. He should weigh in with a decent number of goals, certainly when compared with our midfielders..

Yes, if he replaces Conor in the 10 role we should see a decent improvement. As much as I love Conor's energy he's been abysmal in the box recently.

I'd rather see Gallagher/Enzo and/or Gallagher/Caicedo to start and change it later if you need too

Pretty f**king ridiculous if you ask me. Not sure why we keep insisting on playing people out of position - a right-back at left-back and a centre-back at right-back? José must be mad. Where the f**k is Filipe Luis? Also there's no pace in the centre of the (continued ad nauseam)

Id have thought Hazard played wide and Oscar central. After a while we worked out that actually Fabregas and Matic were indeed too slow but at least they know how to stick together and the three in front of them could come deeper as needed particularly willian. Anyhow looking back at the past is useless.

The team we have has to write their own boys own adventure. And no doubt its off to a bad start.

I'm dropping Silva. He is surely still better than recent Badiashile but he is out of my line up.

Gusto Disasi Baddy Chilwell

 Caicedo Fernandez (sitting) Chukwumeka

Palmer Jackson Nkunku.

There were reports yesterday of a move to a back 3.

I think it's a gamble from Poch but if he's feeling the pressure (which let's be real, he probably is) then this is the time to roll the dice.

Playing a back 3 means Mudryk and Madueke are unlikely to see the pitch (at least in their preferred positions anyway), I've long felt there's been a pressure from above to get certain signings to live up to their supposed potential, especially Mudryk, so a system that discards him will have to work pretty much immediately to be tolerated.

With that in mind, and assuming Colwill wont be fit to start, I could see the following:

                    Petrovic
         Disasi   Silva  Badiashile
Gusto  Caicedo  Gallagher  Chilwell
        Palmer Nkunku Sterling

Not necessarily the personnel I'd select, but what I reckon we might see.

I f we do go that way I think it could look like that too.

Seems a bit backwards to me as we actually looked alright against Villa two weeks ago with the standard formation. To throw everyone into a brand new system all of a sudden with no time to even attempt to implement it at the training ground sounds like an exercise in futility to me.

Especially tomorrow as we play against a side that press like mad men when they are home at Villa Park. We already struggle with the build-up and I can only imagine we'd struggle even worse if the manager lined up like that.

It's been done here before by Conte in his first season. That worked out alright. The change to a back three was mostly to negate the neverending potential disaster that was David Luiz in a back four where he had responsibility to mark opponents.
