@Mod

Sorry to do this to you, but I refuse to turn off my adblocker and if the page is going to be locked for ublock origin users then I am out

I have donated previously to this forum and willing to again (assuming the costs are reasonable)

But not willing to deal with the crap ton of ads

Can you (@mod) please delete my account again?

Note that unless the ad-block block is turned off, i won't see your reply and will just assume you've agreed to remove the account, thanks

Edited by Qaz

@Qaz It's much the same for the site; we can't continue not having them! It was easy back in the day, but it's just not possible these days with the requirements needed to keep the forum running.

Hi mate. I'm suddenly getting messages to turn off Ublock origin ? Until now I've had adverts on here , dunno what's happened and I haven't got anything called Ublock??

Are you using Brave browser? That has built-in ad-blocking and I couldn't access the site using it earlier.

I'm okay with the ads but for a few annoying things. One, when I scroll down, there is a massive void of space if I want to scroll to the bottom, the second problem is this thing Screenshot 2025-08-20 234552.png

This thing is really intrusive and takes up so much space.

@Mod U-Block Origin weirdness. I pay for no ads but, when I sign in, I get the blue screen demanding I whitelist or turn off U-Block Origin. Clearing cache does nothing.

@Mod Tried to donate but got this spinning and doing nothing the first time:

Then the second time I went beyond that but got:

Any ideas?

Yea that's a bit crap that one, but it is showing smaller versions lately! I'll see if I can do something with the bigger ones!

That is a bit weird! So when you whitelist after, is it all good displaying no ads? I don't know why this has suddenly come about, but it must be seeing you have it installed on the browser.

I think that must be Paypal as that page is not actually hosted here once you hit the blue checkout button. I've just tried it, and don't see it spinning, it just gives me the login screen. The page appeared to be refreshing several times, then stopped and seemed ok.

@Mod No problem when I whitelist the site. The curious thing is that, un-whitelisted, the blue screen only appears at the log in window. If I reactivate it after log in, there's no issue if I refresh or move between threads. UBlock Origin has gone rogue on you.

I have all my ad blockers turned off, and I'm still getting strange screens like this pop up when I switch between threads :

This one is blurry but otherwise completely blank. No annoying Bet365 to "click" ... just hangs there ...

The ads on this site are absolutely f*cking mental.

£34 a year to turn them off... To access a forum? Seems mad.

Without ads there wouldn't be a forum. Unless you expect @Mod to finance the place entirely out of his own pocket.

Hello Mod

Not a major thing, but do you know why the " clear previous draft" option sometimes disappears instantly before I can press it ?

Btw, I use the forum a lot , so I was hoping that maybe the income from ads might outweigh an AD free subscription ? Anyway, once I'm flush I might do that . Thanks ,take care mate.

Access costs nothing; the ads have always been active since it started. It was only cause @just (I think it was.... #BlameJust) suggested to have the option a few years ago, so it was added. People could go Ad-free if they wanted to or carry on as they were, there was no requirement for anything, and I don't even think 95% noticed it was even an option. The forum is relying on revenue more than it ever has since the early days, as everything is more expensive now.

I am more surprised that some were actually happy to block ads on this site, then moan about it when the blocker no longer works.

The only thing I can do is trim the quantity back, maybe within the threads, so it's not as distracting. For the record, I am not in the ad-free group.

The subscription is literally just over 9p a day, and you see no ads at all. The ads don't even get called in that group, so things are faster too. But.... I'm not here to promote or sell it; it isn't a money maker! Just an option.

Hey mate, I'm not sure about the draft thing as I don't use them, but I'll have a look to see if there is a known issue with it on the software. It sounds to me more like a browser issue?

I don't really know about the balance between the Ads outweighing it. The revenue can go up and down, more so down, since the sanctions plus Google changes its algorithm a lot, which affects things. If subscription is around 9p a day, it would be more than 1 member's ad impressions per day.

Equally without users there will be no forum. I wouldn't expect anyone to pay for everything here out of their own pockets. Equally I wouldn't expect to have to pay £34 to access a forum. The adverts on here are the worst and most intrusive I can remember seeing on a website.

As Mod mentioned, you have free access, those horrible ads (that are a fact of life practically everywhere) is what you have to put up in return. Suck it up, soldier!

Or help Mod find new ways to generate money to pay the bills.

I begged repeatedly because the site was unusable on mobile with all those pesky ads! I demand the blame!
