abramovich Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 Wow, i didn't expect that one. http://www.chelseafc.com/page/NewsHomeP ... 55,00.html
jack h Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 great news little bit strange though considering his age, how old is he 28, 29? Also i guess this rules us out of going for alves
loz Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 Didn't expect it myself but great news in my opinion.
dkw Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 not sure about the 5 years, but out of paulo and belletti, id rather keep paulo as one of two right backs. wouldnt be surprised to see belletti leaving.
evissy Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 Paolo is class in my opinion and glad to see him stay. Haven't really seen him play badly, maybe once. Paolo is underrated imo.
The Moos Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 great news little bit strange though considering his age, how old is he 28, 29? Also i guess this rules us out of going for alves He might have got a new contract but that doesn't mean that we can't sell him
Maksimov Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 He might have got a new contract but that doesn't mean that we can't sell him Well...the new contract is a good excuse to put a bigger pricetag on Paulo, should we choose to sell him in the summer.
MannyJello Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 i'm really stunned by this news. goes to show i don't really know anything about anything, i guess. i agree that paulo has done a great service to the club, but his period of inconsistency earlier this season is troubling, at least troubling enough that i don't feel confident with him being our #1 option at RB heading into the big matches.
bjd Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 Great news. All he needs is a run of games and he turns into a fantastic player imo. I mustve said that a thousand times now. Remember the Cup Final last year ? MOM performance i thought, he didnt give the player of the year and the best player in the world* a kick *if you work for SKY
Gem Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 Good news, no splashing £20million on a full back we don't need (i.e. Alves)... Save that £20m towards the 100 it will take to get Messi
blizeH Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 All he needs is a run of games and he turns into a fantastic player imo. I mustve said that a thousand times now. I actually agree with this, but I think Belletti is quality too. Arguably Alves is a lot better than either of them (going forward at least) but I still think they're both very, very capable players, and easily two of the best RB's in the Premiership.
Alan Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 Great news. All he needs is a run of games and he turns into a fantastic player imo. I mustve said that a thousand times now. Remember the Cup Final last year ? MOM performance i thought, he didnt give the player of the year and the best player in the world* a kick *if you work for SKY My thoughts exactly.
Essien's Strike Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 theres no real reason to let paulo go really, hes a pretty solid backup fullback, and to be honest, he knows the club very well - so even if we still signed another fullback he would probly be happy to stay as a squad player.
Tim Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 Also, completely unrelated, but I just saw this... At least I'm remembered for something! Cheers Mod, Loz et al....
The Brit Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 didn't look like a player who was about to commit his future to the club on saturday...it was as bad as I have seen him play
mad_mac Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 wouldn't be too far fetched to assume that we were giving him the contract so that he would be more pricey in the transfer market. Merely though, I might add, as use in a swap deal However, I think Paulo is certainly a player that suffers from lack of confidence and games (both going hand in hand) I am fully fine with having Paulo as a back up RB, but would like to see him play more. His tackles scare me at times (as do Percy's) nd he can go missing. But he can also give great performances. He plays for his national team, and has a CL winner medal....he's rubbish
Tim W Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 Now here is the ideal situation for a player on the cusp of squad/first choice to play in the (few) reserve games. The reserves have struggled at right-back most of the season (club problem?) and Paulo needs games/confidence. I know the number of reserve games is no where near the number in the good old days but still.
mad_mac Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 link to the story on sky http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11095_3163369,00.html Now! What pi**es me off about this story is that they, Sky, say that he is committing his future to the CC finalists! What the hell, nothing about the trophies that he has been winning with us since he got here.....NO!!! Just that we are in the CC finals this year?
Guest Brian M Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 Good thinking on the part of the club. Now when we sell him in the summer we'll get a much better price due to the length of contract he has left.
BLUENUT Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 Good thinking on the part of the club. Now when we sell him in the summer we'll get a much better price due to the length of contract he has left. or have him on the books for 5 years
Gem Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 :: Also, completely unrelated, but I just saw this... At least I'm remembered for something! Cheers Mod, Loz et al.... How... DARE you... I was the one who made that (looking at it, it looks quite crap, may need to re-do it!) and it was one of first I did.
Tim Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 SORRY SORRY SORRY Gem, I just remembered that Mod made my avatar and so thought 1+1 and all that. Big thanks to YOU then
Gem Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 Well... since you apologised to nicely, I'll forgive you
