I take your point here Vagabond and agree with the sentiment. What football player is worth £120 million? Maybe Halaand and Mbappe? 
But similar to house prices, it's market forces at work. Any player is only worth what someone is prepared to pay. I agree with @Argo and the point he makes about the competition we would have probably faced in the summer to sign Enzo. Remember he was a major player at Benfica, and a major loss when he left. If he had stayed and continued on his upward trajectory maybe Benfica would have turned over Inter Milan and made the CL semis. Hypothetical I know, but what would his value have been then? And, would he even have considered us?
Also it's not like us over paying to sign a "reputation" player is a new thing. £51 million for Torres and an incredible £97.5 million for Lukaku. Both were subsequently proven to be utter madness.  Based on what I have seen so far I'm pretty confident Enzo is gonna prove to be a much, much better signing than those two put together.

There is no logic in keeping this excuse for a manager except the owners pride. If he was managing any other team in Europe with any ambition he would be long gone

Spare me the 'where were you when we were sh*t' routine, it has nothing to do with what I'm talking about. Whether you've been following the club for the last fifty years or became a fan two minutes ago, one thing is certain for anyone, you want your team to succeed.
Nothing is more important than winning. What exactly is stable and steady club, in your opinion? Having the same manager for a long period of time? But that only makes sense if he's the right person for the job. What's the point in persevering with mediocrity? What point are we trying to prove here? 
I struggle to see the improvement, either. Given the quality he's got at his disposal, Potter's been massively underachieving. I bet Boehly and Co had a different plan in mind when they spent a fortune on new players and a new personnel than moving from 11th to 10th place with more than two thirds of the season already gone or finishing 8th or 9th, as you put it. 
He should be doing much much better than he is, you don't have to be in  the Potter in or out camp to see that.

Even the Turbo Flop could catch this geez on the pitch. His career has been destroyed by the insane munay (feigned Barnsley accent here) thrown at him that he knows he can never live up to.
