  1. Those Glazers sure know how to sell a brand. I hope our American fans are doing their part to ruin their efforts! I get the sense the sport is getting more popular over there in recent years.
  2. It was kind of a downer going from Robben to Kalou, but he had this tendency to pop up with vital goals when we needed him. He grew on me over time. Same with Malouda but he went on to have one great season. In fact it's pretty amazing to think we broke the PL scoring record with Malouda and Kalou on the wings of all people.
  3. I think Schurrle is less likely than Mata, despite Mata being more talented. He seems like the sort of player Mourinho wants in his team. Athletic, hard working, disciplined and efficient - he's the archetype of a German. All he needs is consistency to become a staple of the side, which he seems to be gaining at a good rate. He had limited opportunities last season and worked a lot on his physical condition behind the scenes, yet he produced a very good return with the minutes he had. Simeone seems to have similar taste in players to Mourinho, so I can see why they'd want him, but I highly doubt we'd sell him short of an outrageous offer Atletico likely couldn't afford. Schurrle himself also seems to enjoy himself here and believes in the team. Thankfully I really can't see it happening, but I don't doubt they're interested.
  4. Paddypower are doing an interesting promotion for the gamblers amongst us. Place a £20 bet on the season's top scorer, and you get a free £2 bet every time he scores. So you could put 20 quid on Costa or Aguero (or whomever) to win the golden boot, and get £2 for an accumulator every time they score.
  5. If he ends up having a stormer at Everton he could end up in our squad, if not we sell for profit. It's win-win. Courtois is one of the success stories. I'm loving this policy personally. That said, he'd have to be some player to displace our AM's. Good luck to him. We seem to be developing a good relationship with Everton.
  6. As I said I like Khedira and think he's underrated on here, but we don't really have room for him now. I wanted him a lot more before we had signed Matic. He'd really improve Arsenal though. If they signed him and a good striker they'd be in great shape.
  7. He didn't really slip against Arsenal, RVP just wrecked him for pace after an awful back pass in AVB's absurd high line. He was never getting to the ball in the first place. Terry has come up with the goods, both defensively and offensively, in the biggest games of our history. He got his hands on the CL and redeemed himself in our incredible 2012 run - even though he was never to blame in Moscow, Drogba who was also famously redeemed, should have been taking that penalty. Slippy Steve will never have the opportunity to lift the PL again. Being top of the table with 2 games to go is a bottle job Arsenal would be proud of.
  8. I'm just saying it's well within our financial capabilities. We're in one of the best positions of all English clubs for FFP, probably why Roman was so for it. We've been preparing for it for years. As far as self sufficiency goes, we've been doing well. Look at how well we've managed this window, we continue to buy promising young players and sell them for a profit and as always, success brings in money. A larger stadium will bring us to the next level on that front, but I think our priority is building the best squad we can build to win as much as we can. That's been Roman's MO so far anyway. We could just start selling our best players and settle for top 4 every year if we wanted to be a cash cow.
  9. We are actually in a very good position FFP wise. We could afford to buy Cavani this window, but we'd then have 4 strikers for (usually) 1 position and it'd take up another international slot. That makes it unreasonable, nothing can happen here until Torres is shipped.
  10. This is the team I'd pick too. Burnley will be well up for this but if we start with intensity as we did against Sociedad, they won't be able to live with us. This was something I admired about Liverpool last season. They came out of the blocks at full pelt and caught many teams with their pants down.
  11. Our defence was a joke under AVB. Kompany was also responsible for playing Messi massively onside in the CL last year, leaving Demichelis up sh*t creek. I also think he's been living on reputation since his fantastic 2012 season.
  12. City scored 30 more goals than us last season and we came 4 points behind them. Granted it's preseason but it's fairly evident that Costa fits us like a glove, and has hit the ground running. Even if he's only around for half the season, we'll be much, much better off than we were before. He, Fabregas and Luis will improve us immensely IMO. We didn't even play with true overlapping fullbacks last season because Dave was on his weaker foot. Now we have a mastermind in the middle next to Matic, a staple of our side who has only been with us for half a season. We now have a striker to rival the likes of Aguero, and fullbacks that can overload the flanks. We have every reason to feel confident. The only issue is cover for Costa, but I believe our hands are tied with Torres. At least our team is used to playing without a world class striker by now.
  13. Our hands are just tied so long as Torres is here. We don't really have room for 4 strikers if we want to keep all our AM's around and play with 1 frontman. Though it makes Drogba's resigning at the ripe age of 36 all the more perplexing.

Tragic news. He's an iconic childhood figure for many of us and will be missed. If anyone hasn't seen his standup routines, I'd recommend them. I'm sure they're on youtube or something. Undoubtedly his best work.
  15. Great performance. We're really looking good and hitting stride at the right time. New signings are all impressing so far.
  16. We really need a striker but I don't want to lose Schurrle. I'd rather give them Willian. Anyone but Hazard really.
  17. I think of it as a stress test on the forum's code, that way it at least has scientific use. We must be reaching critical mass soon! What then? Nobody knows.
  18. I've heard good things but haven't seen much of him. Presumably he's been bought as first choice next to Kompany. Remodez might know more!

  20. Our new signings look like they've been with us for years. Can't wait for the season to kick off.
  21. You all need to calm down. We'll see that starting 11 on the field exactly 0 times this season in competitive games. Even Carling Cup. We've got Real Sociedad on Tuesday before the season starts, I suspect that's when we'll be playing more seriously. This is clearly about fitness. I can't believe we hear this moaning every preseason.
  22. I really like Schurrle. Great set pieces so far.
  23. City couldn't be arsed and were missing a substantial number of first choice players. Problem is, their issues with getting motivated is their main weakness. Early last season they conceded a lot of points to much weaker sides and blew their relatively easy start. They should have run away with it early on and that almost cost them in the end. I don't think they'll get away with such complacency this year. Hopefully Arsenal get giddy so Wenger doesn't address their problems for the rest of the window.
