loz
Formality? Coventry are on a decent run of form and are climbng up the Champioship after a pretty dismal first half of the season. They played well when they held Blackburn then knocked them out in the replay in the last round of the cup. Will Hiddink rest any players? Maybe Mancienne will get another 90 minutes and we mught seee Stoch come off the bench. Not convinced he is keen on Di Santo and he may feel Drogba needs to keep playing to keep working on his form. evissy
---------------Cech Ivanovic--Alex----JT-----A.Cole -------------Belletti ---ESSIEN----------Lampard Kalou------Drogba-------Anelka I quess Ballack will take Essien's place at start but in the 70th min or so we could see The Bison back in action. Yep, this will be a tough game. Its the biggest showpiece game for Coventry at the Ricoh so far and as i understand their first sell out. This will mean a great atmosphere that could inspire their players or indeed have the total opposite effect and freeze them. Bearing in mind what happened to our players at Barnsley at the same stage of the competition last year im hoping a few may want to make amends (just how bad were we that day?) I think there may well be a few changes. No more than than 2 or 3 though. It will all depend on the fitness of Anelka and Deco and at what stage Carvalho and Essien are. I would predict that those hoping for a Stoch or Di Santo starting berth are in for a disapointment (not just on Sat but for the rest of the campaign too) We should win what should be an exciting match, but it may be tight with a few scares. Getting the bus to this game, cant wait! Edited March 4, 2009 by bjd
ethicalstrategy
With the games coming thick and fast now we have to employ some rotation. I'd like to see Ivanovic, Quaresma, Stoch, Mancienne and Ferreira get some game time. Also maybe Essien and Carvalho if they are fit. We have a big match in turin coming up on the tuesday. -------------------------Cech Mancienne------Ivanovic-------Carvalho--------Ferreira ------------------------Belletti ---------Mikel------------------------Lampard ---Stoch-----------------------------------Quaresma -----------------------Drogba would be my pick. sexelk
we DO NOT need a holding midfielder against a championship team. they won't even dare attack us. u'd be taking the piss by playing 4-5-1 against them cech belletti --- ivanovic --- alex --- mancienne quaresma --- mikel --- lampard --- stoch di santo --- anelka leave terry, cole, drogba, kalou out unless they are needed. but why would they be? we are playing 4-4-2 after all
Tim
why would they not dare attack us? it's a cup game, so playing for the draw is hardly an option! Isn't it more 4-3-3 than 4-5-1 anyway? I can't see Guus tinkering at this early stage, when things have worked so far.
sexelk
they'll try and nick something. they won't attack us. if we have less than 55-60% of the ball i'll be very suprised there is no such formation as 4-3-3 (exception for barca maybe). it is a myth. wingers are midfielders they have barely worked. last minute winner against wigan. 80th minute against portsmouth. 1 goal leads are fragil things. can't rely on only scoring one goal every game. we don't really create many clear cut chances either Edited March 4, 2009 by sexelk
dkw
hopefully we will get to see either riccy or essien on the bench, though it will probably be too early for the bison.
The Moos
why would they not dare attack us? it's a cup game, so playing for the draw is hardly an option! Why not? Get a draw and beat us on penalties. It is quite simple actually ;)

icecoolguy22
No chance we will start the game 442, even if we are playing against teams in 4th division. Hiddink's job is to win games, not to experiment or bring Samba football to the club, as we have seen in the past 4 games. He will play it safe, if the need arrives, he will apply the changes. No more penalties for us. If the score is deadlocked in extra time, play 235. I rather losing 2:3 than another penalty shootout B)
ozboy
We have to save the big midfield guys for the Inter game. Is it too soon for Essien to come in for this one? Its really Frankie and Ballack, A cole and boswinga that need the rest, Drogba probably does need more match time, as does charisma. Malouda also hasn't played much lately. cech ivanovic alex terry paulo essien mancienne deco charisma drogba malouda its asking a lot of essien and mancienne right now I guess Belleti is an alternative to one or the other, although not my kind of alternative. Plavi26
I think we should be keeping the usual formation 4-3-3, but we could use the youth in this one, because I believe our players need rest for the game against Juve, like you all said previously. This should be an easy win if we keep tight and maintain possession. Formation for me: ----------------Cech------------- Mancienne Ivanovic Alex Paulo ----------------Mikel------------ ---------Deco--------Ballack---- Quaresma-----------------Stoch --------------Drobga------------ Sub: Di Santo, Lampard, Terry, Hilario, Essien, Boswinga, Kalou Just in case, keep the main players on the bench and bring in Essien on the 65th minute or somewhere around there to give him a couple of games. Plavi26
One game starting from the bench isn't a bad thing, and I don't believe it will make a disaster on his form, plus, I really believe he needs a bit of rest and the Conventry game could be one the rare games in which we can sit him without to many concerns in the middle. Conventry is a decent side, but their starting eleven is not as good as our back-up group.
PloKoon13
I think this might be like the other cup games and we might stick something close to a full team out. I can see Mancienne and maybe Quaresma coming back, but I doubt Terry or Lampard will be rested. I guess we'll have to see how Hiddink thinks. We probably shouldn't take any unnecessary risks seeing as the FA Cup is probably our best bet for a trophy.

sergeyMS
From what I`ve seen Hiddink never prefers defensive building up, formation and mentality. He likes fast, creative football and he need players with respective qualities for that. If he won`t put Drogba and Anelka both together tomorrow and I think he won`t, then we should have 3 central mids anyway. As far as I concerned the theory about playing a cup tie against lower division side includes following statements about first 11 selection: (In descending order of importance) - Give a rest for those who play week in week out during most part of a season (keeping in mind balance in each of lines, e.g. no one line should consist of youngsters only); - Give time to key players lacking match fitness after injury; - Give an expirience (or a chance) for youngsters; - Try new formations, shifting some players from their original positions; - Use squad rotation players, who are lacking match fitness or triyng to break into first team; - Close holes by backup players who are soon to leave the club, if there is no one more to pick there; According to this we should see Essien, Mancienne, Stoch, Quaresma, maybe Riccy and maybe some youth in front of the goal with Lampard, obviously to be rested as well as JT. The question for me who should play at LB? Hiddink won`t pick A.Cole because of his drunk story. Guus will wait for his positive reaction in trainings (which is must be for Ashley, he has no choice) and only after Guus should grant Ashley first team squad place. But who should play at LB then? Ferreira? Can Mancienne be there? Or is he `very` right footed? Other youngster? Edited March 6, 2009 by sergeyMS
dkw
this could be an interesting squad selection from hiddink. he has a couple of players on the fringe who i believe he will want to see a bit of ie malouda, quaresma, stoch, ivanovic and mancienne and id be surprised if at least 3 of these dont start. he should play drogba as hes still trying to get back to match fitness but it would be nice to see di santo playing alongside, though im not sure that would work as they are pretty similar types of players.
