GERRARD `LOST IT` DURING BAR FIGHT

Steven Gerrard "totally lost it" and hit a man "with the style and speed of a professional boxer", a court heard today.

Gerrard is at Liverpool Crown Court charged with affray after the alleged attack on businessman Marcus McGee.

All his co-defendants have now pleaded guilty to leave Gerrard facing trial alone.

Prosecutor David Turner QC claims that the fight started at the Lounge Inn, in Southport, Merseyside, when Gerrard asked McGee for a card that controlled the music in the bar.

Turner alleges that Gerrard said to McGee: "Here y'are lad. Give me that lad."

He went on to say: "Mr McGee took offence at his attitude and the expression 'lad' and he refused. Not many people on Merseyside, or indeed anywhere else, would refuse a request from Steven Gerrard but Mr McGee did.

"There can be no doubt that this refusal astounded Steven Gerrard. He walked away back to his party but the CCTV shows how much his mood had changed. He was no longer the centre of that high spirited party.

"He was clearly walking around pondering, musing over what had happened - about the man who said 'no' to Steven Gerrard."

Gerrard then allegedly went back to confront McGee, and his friend John Doran - who has pleaded guilty to affray - threw the first blow in a physical confrontation.

The prosecution then alleged: "We say at this stage Gerrard totally lost it. Almost immediately after the blow from John Doran, in fact within seconds, Steven Gerrard joined in the attack with a succession of well aimed uppercut punches delivered with the style and speed of a professional boxer rather than a professional footballer."

The trial continues.

oh, that makes for some delightful reading

"Here y'are lad. Give me that lad."

 I cant believe the CCTV evidence is as clear as they make it sound. Maybe this will be more than a fine/slap on the wrist?

and an OBE and a job with Sky

BTW - heres the rest of the story on the BBC website

'Lost self-control'

"Almost immediately after the blow from John Doran, in fact within seconds, Steven Gerrard joined in the attack with a succession of well aimed uppercut punches delivered with the style and speed of a professional boxer rather than a professional footballer."

Mr Turner said there was "no doubt" Mr Gerrard struck Mr McGee and said the issue for the jury to decide was whether he was acting in self-defence.

He said: "Steven Gerrard is a world-class footballer. He has the honour to be captain of Liverpool FC and to play for England.

"He is a star. He is Liverpool born and bred and here on Merseyside is a hero.

Lounge Inn, Southport

The violence erupted at a bar in Southport

"We do not say that Mr Gerrard is normally an arrogant man, we don't say that he is a bully.

"What we do say is that that night he just lost his self-control and joined in an attack which should never have taken place. He let himself down."

The jury watched CCTV footage that showed Mr Gerrard and his friends dancing, singing and drinking in The Lounge Inn.

It showed the footballer talking to Mr McGee at the bar for 23 seconds, then Mr Doran elbowing him, and then Mr Gerrard apparently throwing punches.

During his police interview, Mr Gerrard admitted punching Mr McGee but claimed it was out of a belief that his friend was about to be attacked, the jury heard.

In conclusion, Mr Turner told the jury: "If you consider Steven Gerrard was or even may have been acting in self-defence you will acquit.

"But we say on this occasion Steven Gerrard's fists, not his feet, did the talking. This was never self-defence in a hundred years."

Mr Doran, 29, of Woodlands Road, Ian Gerrard Smith, 19, of Hilary Avenue and Paul McGrattan, 31, of Linden Drive, all Huyton, admit affray.

Accrington Stanley footballers Robert Grant, 19, of Enstone Avenue, Litherland, and Ian Dunbavin, 28, of Guildford Road, Southport, have also admitted affray.

John McGrattan, 34, of Rimmer Avenue, Huyton, has admitted threatening behaviour after denying affray.

The trial was adjourned and will resume on Wednesday.

Leave off!!

St Stevie doing a bit of bird???? Will never happen!!!! fine and worst case - community service.

Just like Naomi Campbell getting on a plane with a bag of weed, or punching someone, or MP's nicked drink driving, even after killing someone - nothing will happen - believe me!

There's justice, and there's 'celebrity justice' - I think he qualifies for the latter.

Can you imagine the city of pity if he was convicted, they'd be playing Beatles songs outside the prison, ''All we are saying, is give Steve a chance'' lighting candles, then there's the Justice for Stevie and the Liverpool One campaign to consider.

On the other hand, Michale Shields is hoping for a new cell-mate and has wrote to Jim'll fix it so you never know.

Agreed Bluenut, there's no way in hell that he'll do time, even if he's guilty guilty guilty.

Still, I am enjoying him looking like the pr*ck that he is.

he wont though, he`ll be martyred by our cock-eyed media. they will ignore what hes done and write about how terrible it must have been for st stevie to gp through this horrible trial, and how strong he is to have gotten through it. i guarantee it.

Absolutely no way he'll be sent down for that. He will however get a heavier sentence than he would have done if he'd pleaded guilty. If there had been any chance of him being sent down by pleading not guilty then his brief would have got him to hold his hands up straight away

I agree that there is no way he will do any time. However you have to question how appropriate it is for the case to be being heard in Liverpool Crown Court. There is now way in hell that they will have an impartial jury (either way).

Sadly I agree there's no way he's going down. If it was up to me I'd have him banged up for life for;

1. Being Scouse

2. Noise pollution (that whine can seriously damage damage your eardrums)

3. Taking hypocrisy to a new level

4. Being the epitome of Whiny-Scouse-Gittery.

If all he gets is community service at least make sure he has to serve it in Manchester.

They should make him work as a DJ in some Manchester bar/pub/nightclub...

He's welcome to clean the Stamford Bridge corridors with a mop made out of Liverpool shirt.

You'd have him contaminate Stamford Bridge with a filthy rag like that?

There are CCTV pictures of him on the Mail's website being held back after throwing a punch.

He's filth, scum, not work spitting on if he was on fire and if it were Frank or JT the GUILTY headlines will be all over the feckin' place. Not St. Steven though.

considering the abuse JT, lamps and the rest got for having the temerity to enjoy themselves near some americans after the 9/11 bombings then gerrard should get hammered for this. though he obviously wont, and as loz said, how on earth can this be being tried in liverpool? theres no way on earth thats a just and unbiased court.
