Lofty's Wall of Sound - What are you listening to?

Ha, Kiefer Sutherland released a country album. If that wasn't funny enough, reviews are generally decent and my first impression is that it's actually alright:

On BBC Radio 4 on Tuesday there was a very interesting programme about Sam Cooke's A Change is Gonna Come. A fine song and an anthem for the Civil Rights Movement in the Sixties. Cooke was influenced by Dylan's Blowin' in the Wind when writing the song. Indeed Cooke did a cover of Dylan's song. Link to the progamme below:

Listening to the programme got me thinking about which songs, song-writers and pieces of music have been influential e.g. in inspiring a political movement or have spawned a new style of music. Here's a few:

Bob Dylan; Woody Guthrie; the blues musicians of the early 20th century e.g. Charley Patton and Robert Johnson; Miles Davis and Charlie Parker to name a few. Dylan's songs Blowin' in the Wind and Masters of War; Guthrie's This Land is Your Land; and Billie Holiday's Strange Fruit are examples of influential songs.
