Barry Bridges Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 ...who would it be? I would take Torres! I know Liverpool would likely never sell to us, or anyone in the EPL regardless of the fee, and if they did Man City would out bid anyone. However, IMO, Torres or Gerrard (if not both) are gone this summer. They wont make the CL in my opinion, their owners have no cash, and they cant afford to make their interest paymets/restructure the squad without big prize money(not coming) or player sales. Barring new owners (and the current ones dont look like they are willing to sell) I dont think even the players feel theres any "silver" at the end of that tunnel for a long long time, and even Torres agent has been qouted saying his client may need to find a better platform for his services. Heres a recent Torres qoute "Being included in the World XI without having won any silverware makes me even more motivated. What I mean is, though collectively we've not had the best of luck, on a personal note the balance is right and I'm doing my job well. I have to keep that going." If thats not a big indicator that a player is starting to realise he might be too good for his club then I dont know what is. Even if it costed 60-80m I would get Torres(and it would), as I think that would pretty much garauntee us the EPL and CL trophies, which in turn would pay off the transfer fee and then some (Barca collected over 100million in CL revenue/prize money alone when they won it last year) . Could you imagine Torres with Drogba? Deadly, and the thing is I think Anelka would be perfect for the tip of the diamond. Anelka usually has his head down when he is in or around the box with the ball, but Ive noticed that when he comes a bit deeper he actuall has great play making ability. When hi head is up his vision is great and so is his passings, combined with his pace I think he'd be great at the tip. We havent seen him there simply because who would we pair with Drogba other than him? Kalou too inconsistent (or consistantly unable to finish) and Sturridge/Borini still have a little ways to go. I'll take that attacking trio over Barcas any day! We'd have the strength to shut down any midfield, and the attacking power to terrorize any defence...even more so! Anyways, I know its about as likely as winning the lotto, but that would be my ultimate buy! (More realistically would be Maicon)
loz Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 I wouldn't want to spend the kind of money we would need to spend on Torres to get a player who would do a fine impression of Robben in the injury room.
mad_mac Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 Absolutely agree with Loz here. I like Torres as a player when he does actually play, but he is doing a very good job of convincing me that he'd be perpetually on the physios table. Hmm...just one player. I suppose it would have to be Kaka.
Barry Bridges Posted January 16, 2010 Author Posted January 16, 2010 I wouldn't want to spend the kind of money we would need to spend on Torres to get a player who would do a fine impression of Robben in the injury room. Valid response, but I think a lot of his injury issues has been related to a poor manager not giving him adequate time to recover (Didnt rafa sign, or atleast try to sign, that placenta witch doctor ? lol). He's as proven as a player can get in the EPL IMO, but your right. Doesnt matter who you are buying, when you spend that much cash its a giant risk/gamble.
TheWestwayWonder Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 It possibly is down to Rafa's overuse, but its still worrying. A phenomenal player when he is on, but its looking more and more these days as if he will never really hit the heights on a consistent basis. My one and only would be Aguero. Young, brilliant, strong and could lead the line for more than a decade. Hopefully its not just a hypothetical in a few weeks
Sheva Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 David Villa, simply because he's the best striker in the world today without a doubt in my opinion. I think Drogba is a monster of a striker but Villa is the only person i'd say who is better than Drogba simply because he scores for fun. His age is his only downfall but i'd spend 25 million on him without a doubt. The guy has everything.
Alex Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 Messi for me im afraid. Absolute class, obvs would be ridiculously expensive. assuming money is no object would defo be messi
Ruh Buh Juh Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 I really wanted Diego before he went to Juventus, and he's not fitting in there, so I say him.
BlueDay Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 Mr Messi. Though only if we were to go back to 4-3-3.
bluevale2 Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 Torres for me as he is proven in the premier league. I agree with the injury concerns but it may be down to the ratmunchers training methods as both Michael Owen and Robbie Fowler had regular injury lay-offs
dkw Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 i would go for iniesta, simply because for me hes the best midfielder in world football and exactly the creative force we are lacking,
Cam Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 Messi....when we lack creativity and flair, he would spark it up.
Gilvorak Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 (edited) Denilson from Arsenal. Edited January 17, 2010 by Gilvorak
evissy Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 Denilson from Arsenal. Who did you have there before you edited? Are you serious? Denilson? From all the players in the world... Sane choice would probably be Messi but I just can't stand Barca at the moment. They truly have climbed up close to summit in my hate table... I'll say Aguero. I like the fact it can be true in a few weeks.
Mikstaw Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 Denilson?? He is good, but Arsenal won't sell him. He was very poor 29th November... But he has good freekick's. ;)
just Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 David Villa, simply because he's the best striker in the world today without a doubt in my opinion. His age is his only downfall but i'd spend 25 million on him without a doubt. The guy has everything. Your avin a laugh! Villa is a more natural finisher than Drogba, no doubt. But that's it. Drogba is superior to Villa in every other facet of the game. Messi would be the obvious choice, but, if it were limited to the EPL only, I would take a gamble on Ramsey from Le Arse. Looks the only young player I have seen who could POSSIBLY be capable of taking over from Lampard in a season or two.
blizeH Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 Anyone from Ronaldo, Iniesta, Messi or Aguero I wouldn't want someone like Villa, because as good as he is, I'm perfectly happy with Drogba and Anelka, so it'd be a waste of time if we got another striker that is for the now as opposed to for the future imo
geezer Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 I'm going for a lesser known player because the obvious ones are too easy to single out. Ramsey from the gooners.
Guest Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 If playing the 4-3-3 then Messi or Ronaldo would be huge. If its the 4-4-2 diamond, then Kaka would probably be the most ideal for mine.
Alakuu Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 I really wanted Diego before he went to Juventus, and he's not fitting in there, so I say him. Good choice! I thought we might have bidded or at least been "rumored" to get him in the summer, but ahh well... there is hope I'd have said Messi, but everytime he talks about us, he goes on about the CL semi-final and our "anti-football" so i don't think he likes us much
Ballack & Blu Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 some superbly talented MF to let lamps do what he does best, prob Xavi or fabregas.
PloKoon13 Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 Why not Cristiano Ronaldo? He is probably the most talented player on the planet, despite being a c**t.
dkw Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 Why not Cristiano Ronaldo? He is probably the most talented player on the planet, despite being a c**t. because hes a c**t.
rahul Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 Iniesta for me please! He is the best player on the planet to play in that tip of the diamond position. Or anywhere in the central midfield for that matter.
