The Brit Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 just flashed up on sky...torn achilles tendon and calf apparently...not his fault obviously but makes a mockery of the decision to sign him in the first place...still gives josh and kakuta a real chance to impress this season
Barn Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Why does it make a mockery of the decision to sign him, is he prone to this sort of injury? Dissapointing news but as you say it will give the young lads more opportunity.
Nibs Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 (edited) Any injury is a loss, but as most of us have said before, Yossi was only going to be a squad player and I'd rather see McEachran & Kakuta given a chance to develop anyway. Edited October 6, 2010 by Nibs

Does that mean Essiens signing was also a mockery, hes had a few injuries too.
yorkleyblue Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 and old Glass Ankles Robben - what a mockery that was!
tn1ben Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 bit harsh. i can see what he's saying - he's not exactly a spring chicken.
The Brit Posted October 6, 2010 Author Posted October 6, 2010 just meant we shouldn't have signed him, a mediocre 30-year-old, in the first place and now we're paying his wages for sitting on a treatment table...van der vaart is looking good and he cost just £2.5m more...I saw nothing in Benayoun's brief appearances to suggest he was worthy of playing for the champions

Bez Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Apparently we along with Arsenal were offered VDV before Spurs can't believe we past on it..
PloKoon13 Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Unfortunate. We sure could use a Deco around the place...
Gem Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Shame, would have been a good option. Get well soon Yossi!
evissy Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Although I'm not the biggest fan of Benayoun but shame he is out. Our midfield backup is now very thin and young.
Barn Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 It's exactly what you need sometimes to force the youngsters to step up, time for the lads to prove they're good enough.
TheWestwayWonder Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 I was advocate #1 for Van der Vaart before his move, but consider he was probably looking for a similar wage to what Joe wanted. Lowering the squad's salary was clearly on the club's mind. But yes, it pisses me off in a huge huge way when I see VDV so successful for the N17 scum when I know his talent and ability was so bleeding obvious (or shouldve been) before he moved. Anyway, really disappointed for Yossi. I hope Kalou is not out for long either, but its not like he is some injury prone joker. He is very good at what he does, and was looking like a fine signing before this. I really hope he can get back soon and play a part in winning some major trophies.
jcm28 Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 McEachran couldn't have ever imagined a better chance than this one.
BlueBeard Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Unfortunate. We sure could use a Deco around the place... Wash your mouth out with caustic soda, Plokkers! ;)
The Moos Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Just when I start feeling good about our injured players returning, I first get the news that Alex is out for three weeks (seems like every time one of our players is injured they're out for three weeks) and now this. Damnit! Oh well, hopefully Lamps is back after the break so we'll have him, Essien and Mikel as our midfield. Hopefully they can play together for awhile. And McEachren, Ramires and Zhirkov or Malouda can be used as backup.
Cam Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 The squad players and youngsters will just have to show they are Chelsea material.

Hes injured, players get injured, no matter how old, how much they are paid or how much they cost. Yossi was MOTM in the zilina game (though mainly for his first half display) and has played pretty well anytime he has been called on. He was what we were looking for to replace several departing squad players and he knew it. Would VDV have been happy playing second fiddle to Lampard, Essien, Malouda etc? Somehow I dout it. We bought Yossi because we needed him, we didnt buy VDV because we didnt need him.
Bobbywoodhogan Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 At least Kakuta and McEachran will get some more playing time. Any news on Kalou?

ThunderDan Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 (edited) Dammit, sorry Beej and Deke. This injury to Yossi is very disappointing, I liked what he was doing, reminds me of Yuri, and was looking forward to seeing more. Get well, soon. Edited October 6, 2010 by ThunderDan

WW if you were advocate #1 then I was seconding all of your motions. It pisses me off greatly as well. But hindsight is a magnificent thing. That said the club were not to know that Yossi would face this, it's sad but thankfully it is in a place where we have plenty of cover. I'm more maddened by the fact that this has come once again on international duty. Let's just hope it doesn't ruin him because despite my problems with the signing at first, I see him as someone really useful something we don't really possess otherwise. If we have him back by the beginning of the CL knockout stages (touch wood) then he can still make a real impact this season.
Barry Bridges Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 I wanted VDV, butthats neither here nor there. I also wanted Sniejder last season, but again if we got the players we wanted we'd have a huge squad with a large chunk of them flopping. Deals that panned out great now, were not available to us when we needed to pull the trigger. Anyways regarding this injury it appears I was wrong about Benayoun...... he literally is replacings Joes position after all!
