Wish he'd played for Chelsea

Featured Replies

Whilst on yet another skull numbing trip around tescos, giving the melons a good squeeze,(she didn't seem to mind),i thought of all the great players in my lifetime that have graced the game, yet never played in England.Of all the players i thought of, which one would i have liked the most to have pulled on the shirt of Chelsea?Lionel Messi springs to mind and as he is still young you never know, but after some thought i came up with Ronaldo,(the Brazilian one)Having seen him on t.v over the years there is no doubt he's a genius and before he put on the timber, i reckon he would have set the Premier league on fire. The only criteria is the player must have played in your lifetime and never in this country,so unless your an uncle albert, you can't name players from the war!

Hang on iv'e just thought of Marco van Basten & Diego Maradonna,

and maybe Raul.

Would have loved to see Le Tissier play for Chelsea, but that violates the rule of not playing in the country.

I suppose Zidane or Figo would have been a treat too though.

Platini. Hold on, let me explain why. That way, he wouldn't be trying to screw around with us all the time, since he would be an ex-Chelsea player.

Now that makes sense, right?

Either one of Romario or the real Ronaldo, would love to have seen them play alongside Mark Stein....

Ronaldinho and Cruyff at their peaks would have been great, and one of my all time favourites Jairzinho...

I know he played for a wee bit at Sunderland, but I'd loved to have seen Ally McCoist.

Other than him, obviously Maradonna - but the press would really have hated us then.

Maldini too, class player.

Agree 100%, and he was supposedly quite close to signing for us! Great pic by the way, haven't seen that one before.

We nearly signed him? I havent heard that before, I presume it was when he went to Fulham?

If we hadn't ever signed him it would have been Ruud Gullit, I was genuinely a mess when we signed him - in my opinion the greatest player the world had ever seen and there he was signing for my beloved Chelsea!

Other than that I always hoped the Le Tissier rumours would come off. That was the one that I thought we had a chance of that would have been great.

Me neither. I've got a vague memory, possibly false, of him playing for us in a testimonial so had a look round, but that was all I managed to find.

He was definitely linked to us, possibly before he went to Fulham. In between Man U and Fulham he played (following loan spells with Jewish Guild and Dunstable Town) for: Stockport County, Cork Celtic and Los Angeles Aztecs. During the loan/Cork Celtic period he only played a total of six games so was effectively out of the game. An example of Man U refusing to sell him to a rival perhaps?

Apologies for misreading the first post in this thread. When I saw the topic, you know who was the first name I thought of.
