January 18, 201610 yr Leeds at Chelsea 1989 seem to remember them deliberately standing near the fence at the start of the game mocking what had happened at Hilsboro the week before.
January 18, 201610 yr Cheers for that, wot a farking great goal, I was there as a seventeen year old and I drunk the bar dry on the train home. Got home about 5 am in the morning and missed the open top bus parade as I was sleeping off a hangover!
January 18, 201610 yr I love that photo of Alan Hudson, I remember being at Highfield road, Coventry in Feb 1970 and watching Huddy receiving the ball on the half way line, on a solo run beating about 4 Coventry players and smashing the ball in the net. We won 3 - 0 that day. Eccles and his Putney mob celebrated afterwards by running down the Street jumping on top of every car in the street.
January 19, 201610 yr Since we play Arsenal this weekend, here is one glorious picture here of a young fan being passed over the heads of the crowd to a better viewing position at the front of the terrace, during a match between Chelsea and Arsenal at Stamford Bridge in 1947...
January 19, 201610 yr What a great player Ossie was for us. A cracking picture of the crowd at The Bridge, back in 1947. Football was having a post World War crowd boom in the years immediately after the end of the war.
January 19, 201610 yr the man whos goal at main road made our cup winners cup final win possible...unsung heros..
January 20, 201610 yr Yeh great picture osgood57 - I was there that night in 1971 - at main road, Manchester. ( Man city were the holders of the European cup winners cup at that time, and we beat em in the semi final and we went on to beat Real Madrid in Athens. Derek smethurst scored our goal that night in main road, he is wearing the 9 that night ( no squad numbers in those days : just the simple 1 to 12, number 12 being the one and only substitute ! ) The man city mob thugs weren't happy after the match, and we were lucky to get to get back to Piccadilly station in one piece, my mate got stabbed, and I was covered in blood, with a shiner. Those were the days!
January 20, 201610 yr Correction, smethurst scored our goal (only goal of the game ) in the 1st leg at the bridge v man city. The 2nd leg at main road was also a 1 -0 win for us, which was adjudged to be an own goal by the man city goalie. The best game of that 1970-71 ECWC winning year was the quarter final 2nd leg at the bridge against Club Brugge - going into the game, we were 2- 0 down from the 1st leg. Ossie turned on the magic in the 2nd leg at the bridge and we won 4 - 0 ( 4 - -2 on aggregate)
January 20, 201610 yr great night the brugge game...if my memory serves me ossie was recalled to the team complete with beard...
January 20, 201610 yr Great photo, you couldn't beat the view from the benches for the small amount of pennies it cost to transfer to once inside the ground! Looks like we are playing against the spammers ?
January 20, 201610 yr Ossie with a beard - Fair play to you for remembering. I can't remember - too many beers ! I will have to dig out the programme of the following home match to have a look at the photo of him scoring. I was in the old east stand that night against Club Brugge and remember the whole stadium was really rocking that night. Have you got any pics of the following season 71 to 72, when we beat the Luxembourg team 21 - 0 on aggregate : our highest and I believe to be still the overall highest record in European football ( 8 - 0 away in 1st leg) and 13 - 0 at home in the 2nd leg) ?
January 20, 201610 yr fc jenusse..I will try can remember the story that they were all part time players and one of them only had one arm...
January 21, 201610 yr 93/94 I see Dimitri on goal ? First keeper to wear pants in a cup final bit of a useless fact but through
January 21, 201610 yr Remember when I use to turn into the forecourt behind the shed, and the east stand would loom over you like some kind of huge space ship, it was vast compared to the rest of the stadium. One time sat at the top of the east stand with my old man, it was 83, we nearly got relegated to div 3 and QPR were going up, my old man got into heated discussion with some QPR fans sitting behind us, when game finished we lost 2-0, and as we came down steps into the concourse, gate 13 came surging out doing knees up mother brown, the QPR fans(about 5 of them) shot off like usain bolt! For the record it was easter Saturday and QPR were going up, they barely filled one pen of the north terrace!
January 21, 201610 yr My cousin got punched and rolled down the steps of the east stand upper lol. Chelsea v spurs cup quarter final I think.
January 22, 201610 yr The Brugge return leg at the Bridge was the best evening game I've attended outside the FA cup final replay and the Inter Milan Fairs cup match in the 60's ( an Ossie special in that game) Incidentally the king had comeback from a six week ban by the FA that night, what an evening!!
